Possible acommodation - disabled access friendly
    Hi guys

Just found this site; all accommodation and facilities are wheelchair (and I assume mobility scooter) accessible. Perhaps it could be a possible venue for this year?

Australia Wide Self Weddings - seeking blurbs and interest :)
    Greetings Femmeconne wonderful people :)

Some of you may have heard that I'm heading up a project to take the self wedding idea, Australia wide as a one off extravaganza! Inside of this, I thought I'd ask and see if those of you who made vows alongside me two years ago, if you'd comment here with some quotable blurb as to what it meant for you then, and the impact on you now? If you could include a name/pseudonym that I can attribute your comment to that would perfect :)

Where I'm at with the project is looking for event teams (including leads) in 4 - 6 locations around Australia including Perth. I'm about to start work on a website, and some other stuff to make group collaboration and organisation easy and fun.

I have several objectives with doing this project, not the least is to work with an awesome community of people whom I love and respect, whom all in some way care about making a difference in the world, not to mention meeting new wonderful people out to do the same :)

Secondly, I want to see a whole bunch of other people promising to Love, Honour and Cherish themselves, to take on that responsibility to themselves for well-being and nurturing. My view, is that this will make a difference in relationships, communication and connection for people.

I'm sure there's heaps more I haven't thought of (or taken time to gush about here) :)

The best thing is, this is all happening *NOW* - the entire series of events will be over, done and dusted by the end of February 2010! Also, the actual physical organisation of the event is minimal - it's much heavier in the inspiration and making a difference stakes simply by *happening* rather than requiring lots of time, effort and stress.

This is the kind of thing, where if the point wasn't for me to generate the project inside of community, I could organise in a few days around Australia - but it isn't my intention and doesn't really achieve what I've set out to in the project both in the putting the project together, and for those who choose to participate.

    Femmeconne 2009 Cancellation
    Femmeconne 2009 Cancellation

    Hi every one,

Femmeconne 2009 has been hit with all sorts of bad things this year, and it is with great regret we're going to have to cancel. A lot of stuff has been happening behind the scenes, and this is definitely the best decision for our convenors and panelists.

If you're still in a Femmeconne mood, wish to meet some people, or even just to hang out and have a great cup of tea, Margaret has offered to host an afternoon tea this Sunday afternoon. This can be a great way for people to ease into the Femmeconne air gently, making some friends before attending their first Femmeconne event. If you're interested, or have any questions you wish answered, then please email me, Mynxii, or Margaret (remember to take away the NOSPAM in each address.)  This is an extension of Femmeconne, and is a women's space where children are welcome.

We do have some plans for next year, so don't think we're gone for good! Expect some different styles next year, and more intense discussion and activities. So, watch this space!

    Margaret, Sarah and Ju

    Anyone allergic to cats?
I am hopefully coming to femmecone, and have a giant pile of clothes to swap. But the cat fell asleep on top of it, so while otherwise clean they do have a bunch of cat fur on them. Is this likely to be a problem for anyone? If so I'll make sure not to mix them up with the other clothes, assuming noone's going to be made sick by having them in the same room.

    Volunteers!
    Greetings all!

It's now the time in which we need volunteers - if you see something on the programme that you'd like to facilitate (feel free to tweak) we'd love to hear from you!

Similarly given that Calli is still recovering from surgery, and I am likely unable to make the event due to an exam on Monday 16th, I'd love for a couple of people to volunteer to help Calli and Margaret out for the weekend.

Things that would be supremely useful right now:

    - matching program items to people and tweaking as necessary
    - a couple of people to play 'host' and be friendly and welcoming and approachable. These roles are vital as part of creating and holding a safe space for the weekend.
    - a few people to run the program on the day, that is, keep a finger on the time, be able to support people in taking the discussion to a new location if it's not finished, support facilitators in having what they need (pens/bits etc or a pep talk).
    - someone interested in being the firebug and babysitting the fire responsibly
    - RSVP's for attendance - whether it's for a day or the whole weekend.

Also, we need you to RSVP - the event can only take place with the support of it's members and currently we don't have enough members who can definitely make it to cover costs. Invite a friend, or your sister, or your Mum, a colleague - the space is there for people to enjoy, to be comfortable hanging out amongst a group of women, to relax and rejuvenate, to explore and be challenged, to learn, to teach, to experience. There is something for everyone and we'd love you to be involved.

This is your event, it belongs to the community and can only flourish with love and energy from the community. Join us in making your event special, and fun, and relaxing and exciting - be part of what makes it 'a little bit of everything'.

My personal aim is to study so awesomely hard that I can be completely free to come to the weekend - it's a huge ask, but I'm going to do my best, because I love this weekend and I would love to spend it with all of you!

    Coffee, tea and RSVP
I will be doing the coffee and tea run for Femmeconne next weekend, so I'd appreciate some input as to numbers and preferences for hot beverages.

I know that there is some contention over brands for soy milk (and possibly other things). Please let me know if you have any particular preferences.

    Bickley Brook and an apology
It has been pointed out that there are a number of issues about facilities for people with disabilities at Bickley Brook, in the layout of the main area, access to toilets and other problems. We recognise this is a problem and apologise for not consulting people with disabilities properly on this issue. However, changing venue again at this stage would be difficult due to the late date and the limited number of suitable venues in Perth for this type of event. Because of this, we have decided that Femmeconne will remain at Bickley Brook for this year.

Bickley is a great venue. I love the bush and the water and the campfire and the general relaxed vibe of the place. I think all of this adds something to Femmeconne in terms of being a retreat or a time away from the city and the complexities of everyday life. Somewhere to relax and talk and ponder, outside of the context we usually find ourselves in.

I think we have learnt from this year that Femmeconne needs to be better organised in terms of starting the process early and consulting with people with disabilities about venues and venue issues. We apologise and hope to do better in future.

Reclaim The Night - Friday October 30th 2009

Back by popular demand, on Friday the 30th October, Reclaim the Night will return to Perth once again. The 2008 event, organised by ROAR Feminist Collective was a fantastic success with over 200 women joining together in a night of solidarity to speak out against male sexual violence against women and to assert women's right to walk our streets free from fear of rape and sexual assault.

We will gather outside the Wellington Street exit of Perth train station, opposite Forest Chase from 6.30pm onwards and will start marching at 7pm sharp. We will march through the streets of Perth and end in Stirling Gardens (near the kangaroo sculptures) for a fantastic rally with speakers, entertainment, food, stalls and more!

Invite all your friends on facebook and spread the word!!!

If you want to know more, have skills to share or just want to get involved in any way possible, then email roarwomen@hotmail.com or contact Lianda on 0411066595. FB is Here.

Plannings and Discussions - Opening The Floor
Femmeconne is getting underway! [info]kitsune_iii , [info]mynxii and I had a quick meeting the other night to get some ideas together, and to make sure we all have a shared vision. And now we do!

This post is my traditional Opening The Floor post - what do YOU want to see? What do YOU want to be a part of? What do YOU want to talk about?

    Must Haves:
    - Library
    - The F Word
    - Crafty Stuff

We're looking at one stream of back to back discussions, and one open stream, so there's a more relaxed item paired to a discussion item. Anyway, I have pages of notes, but I want to hear what YOU want before I start putting them out.
