Hi!

What are your thoughts on [info]breastfeeding?

I'm asking here because a) I can't imagine that they'd be okay with women using their bodies for anything they want, like erotic lactation, for example, and b) because I tried joining recently, but my membership was declined. I asked why via email, and they responded back telling me that it's because I'm a trans woman. From their email to me:
Megan,

You'll notice that we outline in the community info who is admitted into
the breastfeeding community: nursing mothers, pregnant mothers planning
to breastfeed, and mothers experienced in breastfeeding.

We've looked at your journal, and we are certainly not questioning your
female self-identity. However, since you describe yourself as a
trans-woman, it does seem unlikely that you would be physically able to
meet the requirements for membership.

If there are details of which we are unaware that would be relevant, by
all means let us know, and we will take that under consideration.

Thanks,

the LJ [info]breastfeeding community moderators

I wrote them back and told them that I do, in fact, have breast milk and am planning on breastfeeding when I adopt and then tried to join again, but again I was, not surprisingly, denied.

I couldn't believe that they were so overtly transphobic!

Until I checked out their user info again. D:

So I'm totally going to advertise my alternative community here for anyone who's interested in lactation, erotic or otherwise :D

That's... totally disgusting. (Them, I mean, not you.)

SLIGHTLY TANGENTIAL, BUT SINCE YOU MENTIONED EROTIC LACTATION ANYWAY:

And honestly I always thought the "breasts are for FEEDING BABIES, it's only a FUCKED UP SOCIETY THAT MADE THEM EROTIC!" was creepy and weird. I totally understand the point that people, say, chastizing breastfeeding mothers for "showing themselves off" in public when their babies eat are confusing sex with food. But surely we can make this point while still acknowledging that breasts can be erotic (and so can milk -- I know people who've actually done the erotic lactation thing, thanks) without it being some evil patriarchal SCHEME.

Hell, nipple stimulation is a major part of my erotic response. I guess the Pat is all up in my nerve endings again. Damn.

yeah, as a 'radical breastfeeder' (i.e. nursing my kids till they self-weaned, not using supplemental bottles, etc.) i used to get in lots of fights with those types of folks because i acknowledged and celebrated the sexuality inherent in pregnancy, birth, and lactation.

To my delight, i started lactating not long after i started taking estrogen; but to my sadness, it eventually stopped. :-( i would love to be able to get it going again, but i think i'd need to be more dedicated to using the breast pump than i'm probably up for at the moment . . . .

*wark?!* o____o

This part of [info]breastfeeding's userinfo made me throw up in my mouth a little:

We do not support supplementing with human milk substitutes or giving up for any reason (unless absolutely medically necessary), and we do not accept the following excuses:

* "I want my body back."
* "It's too much work"
* "I want more sleep" etc...

Breastfeeding is not a "choice", and will not be presented as such in this community. It is your child's birthright, and your responsibility as a Mother. We are all here because we know that babies were born to be breastfed, and we will all do our damndest to ensure that every one of us is successful.

Yes, because every mother has the time/energy to be available to breastfeed 24 hours a day! What? You mean some moms work and can't afford to employ a full-time wetnurse?! OENOES! THE HORROR!!1!

I mean, yeah, I think babies should be breastfed if/when possible, but is that community seriously insinuating that a mother is an awful bad horrible evil person if she doesn't breastfeed 100% of the time her baby is hungry?

Okay, that was totally a tangent and unrelated to your post. :x Sorries.

lol it was totally related.
Their info is INSANE!

Fun fact: There is at least one member there who has breastfed her child up to the age of five in that community.

wow. FIVE? damn, and i thought that the folks i knew were hardxcore about breastfeeding, i've known a few three year olds who still nursed. good for her though, i can imagine that she gets a lot of bullshit for going so long and i'm sure there are some kids that really benefit from that kind of sustained nursing relationship.

Erotic lactation kind of scares me personally, but I can see how people would dig it. I think it's because I'm still freaked out by women who get off while breast feeding their infants. I know it's not something they can control, but it would freak me out SO BAD if it happened to me. :(

That's a kickass community, though. Much needed.

[info]breastfeeding is horrible.

You are a strong woman, and you CAN do it. You just need to believe in yourself, and we're here to help.

That's vaguely reminiscent of Scientology's "YOU CAN CURE DEPRESSION WITH VITAMINS!"

Yeah, I'd probably feel mildly pedophilic if that happened to me, in spite of the fact that I couldn't control it :/

And thank you!

lol That was like the least scary part for me! It reminded me a little of Richard Simmons.

The first time it's freaky, the second time you're expecting it. Then you just get used to it.

The wikipedia entry is quite focused on hetero female-breast-focussed erotic lactation.

When you mentioned this topic, however, my mind went first to this gay porn that I got a long time ago, a sort of porn-clips variety pack, one of which featured erotic lactation with a male breast and male milk-drinker.

I wondered at the time whether anybody had written about this phenomenon. There's some writing about male lactation on the internet, but I can't find any about male erotic lactation.
