what the fuck does that even mean?
John Mayer calls Kanye West "A little woman"

About Kanye West, Mayer said, "I think Kanye West is a great artist with a bad idea. I respect his talent and working with him, he gives not a thought to the possibility of failure, but he really is just a little woman. He thinks too much about the character."

EDIT: uh... the source is from another community but i can't post the link here, mod says. can someone tell me why that is? it's not like i'm promoting...

clearly we still have a long way to go if the best way to insult someone is to call that person "a little woman... have any of you heard the term "woman" being used as an insult in real life recently? seems archaic and stupid to me.

if I had a dollar for every way that john mayer annoyed and disgusted me, I could have him offed. for now, I give you this trash:

I know a girl
She puts the color inside of my world
but she's just like a maze
Where all of the walls all continually change

And I've done all I can
To stand on her steps with my heart in my hands
Now I'm starting to see
Maybe it’s got nothing to do with me

Fathers, be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers who turn into mothers
So mothers, be good to your daughters too

Ooh, you see that skin?
It's the same she's been standing in
Since the day she saw him walking away
Now she's left
cleaning up the mess he made

So fathers, be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers who turn into mothers
So mothers, be good to your daughters too

Boys, you can break
You find out how much they can take
Boys will be strong
And boys soldier on
But boys would be gone without warmth from
A woman's good, good heart

On behalf of every man
looking out for every girl
You are the god and the weight of her world

So fathers, be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers who turn into mothers
So mothers be good to your daughters, too

he's a frat boy with a guitar and the illusion of talent

Thanks, I was going to bring up the fact that John Mayer has displayed sexism in his music. That song really annoys me when I head it, especially since any guy with a guitar (including several friends of mine) seem to want to be John Mayer, and inevitably learn how to play that song.

the other night while wrapping my boyfriend's present, i dropped it on my leg (it's a big heavy box full of stuff), and got a massive bruise on my thigh. it basically hurts in every position, and i was ranting to him about it and he said i was being such a girl about it and it probably didn't even weigh that much. i responded by telling him if i threw it at his head, if i could even pick it up enough to throw it, it would knock him out.

Arnold Schwartzenegger was referring to the Democrats as "girlie men" throughout the entire 2004 presidential election in the US.

I also seem recall VP candidate John Edwards being mockingly referred to as a "Breck Girl."

And these are politicians who are supposed to be representing the people. How nauseating.

Well, people who starr in movies about male pregnancy should probably mot be so quick to call people "girlie men".

"Easy to learn lifetime to master, but you don't get that much pu--y with a cello," John Mayer said during a luncheon for Rolling Stone magazine Tuesday (December 16.)

Ah, so you only went into music to have sex? With an attitude like that, I don't care what instrument you're playing, I hope all women lose interest in you.

All the more reason to not like him. That Daughters song was ridiculous.

And people say there's no reason for feminism to be around... it should not be an insult to call someone a girl or a woman.

John Mayer sucks. His music all sounds the same. My cousin (who I live with) is obsessed and basically only ever listens to him. I've read a couple interviews with him, and a few interviews of people he's worked with who talked about him, and he came off as a total ass. Sadly, this statement isn't surprising.

At the department store I work at we have these shirts by some sports brand that say "You throw like a girl!"

I keep them hidden in the stockroom and plan to do so as long as I possibly can *vomits*

This should prove to everyone just how strong patriarchy is, when we still consider it to be an insult for a man to be compared to a woman.

aside from the obvious, i like the way John Mayer talks like a space alien. or a robot, maybe. "gives not a thought to"?? who says something like that, especially casually?

anyway, this isn't the first time he's proven himself a sexist dimwit. i don't know that i've heard "woman" used specifically as an insult in that way, but maybe that's just his robotic attempt at insults along the line of "don't be such a girl" or "that guy is such a pussy."

Grumble.

Honestly, I think most of "Room for Squares" is a great album. And "Why Georgia" is one of my favorite songs, I think it's beautiful.

But "Daughters" is horrible, and that's an amazingly idiotic insult (even though I don't like Kanye West myself.)

John Mayer seems intelligent and funny, going by the show he put on VH1. I don't listen to his music, so I couldn't say whether it's any good -- I'm inclined to say "not really," going by the samples I've heard.

He also seems like the type of asshole who'd take being called an asshole as a compliment, and his ego needs to be knocked down about three hundred pegs.

I hope this is okay to post:

Something else I've heard, expressed as a threat, insult or put-down, is "suck my dick". Many times have I heard (mostly young) guys say it about other men they're angry with. "Well, he can go suck my dick!" "Hey buddy, suck it!" *grabs crotch*.

This makes it so obvious to me that many men see oral sex on a penis, their penis, as a way to degrade and dominate someone. When the men I would date would end up saying it it made me uncomfortable, but I could never put my finger on it. It was like, "Uh, excuse me, I suck your dick, too...is there going to be a problem here?"

Man, that pisses me off the more I think about it. Not only are woman used as insults, but the actions we "perform" are considered good material as well. And "suck my dick" is usually said with such venom, it gives me the willies. How is it that a intimate act that I perform for a man is worthy of a five-star insult? I'm sure it's also a way of trying to insult someone by implying that they're gay (which is odd, because wouldn't the insulter be the one having his dick sucked?)

I think that's in part misogyny... seeing women as "receptive" in penetrative anything and also as lesser in general, and wanting to place other men in a "woman's" position.

Coincidentally, I was browsing my own livejournal friends pages today... and one of my friends' posts said he'd just cut his friends-contacts list. Okay, no big deal. It happens.

One response to this post said, "I better still be on there, woman!" Said, to a guy. I'm sure it was meant to be jokey but with this feminist post here, it still made me go "Hmm..."

Look at the majority of homophobic insults and stereotypes about queer men:
Fairy, queen, princess, hairdresser, nurse (stereotypically assumed to be a women's job), etc...

It is (sadly) very common to put men down for doing stereotypically female things. It's just usually called homophobia and too many people fail to see the link between the two.
