I'm a subscriber to the Lefsetz letter, an emailed editorial all about the music industry. I read this yesterday, a review of the current music charts (Billboard?) and was floored by this: ----------------------------------------------
54. Simon & Garfunkel "Live 1969"
Sales this week: 13,178 Percentage change: -17% Weeks on: 2 Cume: 29,177
The old model was based on scarcity. There were limited albums and you had to go to the show to see the act. So, nobody would license anything, they didn't want to lose control, they didn't want to be overexposed.
Released after "Bookends", this live album is multiplatinum. Today... It gets a shoulder shrug, from those even aware it's out.
Maybe you shouldn't do commercials, or endorsements, but your music? Make it all available everywhere all the time. The fans want it now. If you're lucky, you'll have a career, and they'll want it in the future. ---------------------------------------------- See, I didn't even know it was out. Did you? And isn't the fact that I don't know kind of proving his point - that the old music industry men don't know how to advertise to a modern audience?
Hello, I'm Elizabeth. I'm new to this community so I thought I'd give a little something in my first post; seven icons. It's not much, but I thought I'd share. -Elizabeth
x12. Bob Dylan x14. The Graduate x7. Simon & Garfunkel
Thanks for the welcome. :-) I´ll post one of my favorite videos from Simon and Garfunkel: I am a rock. I think the live version is actually more beautiful as the record. The voice harmonies are so awesome!
I´m new to this group and I´m a big Simon and Garfunkel fan for about almost a year now. :-) I´m turning seventeen at the end of February and I hope to have fun with you and have nice talks about the two guys. :-)
Quentin and I are both big fans of the melodic musings of Simon and Garfunkel, and hope to have many long and wonderful conversations about their music on this forum.
To start with, though, we need some advice. During our concert to celebrate the summer solstice at Gavin's forest retreat, we performed Paul Simon's Me and Julio, with Quentin on the nose flute and me on the hurdy-gurdy. I can only say that the response from the crowd was rapturous.
Now we are left with a dilemma. While less-honest artists would simply shrug off the issue of royalty payments, we feel obliged to give Mr. Simon his dues. Unfortunately, we are not sure how these things work. We have written to Mr. Simon offering him $20. As of yet he has not replied.
There were 12 people there. Actually, 13 if you count Rector as a person, which Gabor certainly did for a brief and shameful period that is best forgotten. Does the size of the audience have a bearing on how much we should pay?
Does anyone here have the 'Songs of Paul Simon' book published in the 70s?
If so, would you mind checking whether it contains handwritten lyrics (either complete or part) of 'The Only Living Boy in New York', 'Kathy's Song' or 'America'?
well... do i have a treat for (most of ) you! i was youtubeing john lennon and i came across one of him and paul simon and the 1975(?) grammys presenting an award... its so funny to see him with a mustache in my opinion..
anyhoo.. olivia newton john wins the grammy but art garfunkle accepts on her behalf...
Sad news from NYC: Michael Brecker, who played the trademark solo on "Still Crazy After All These Years," has died of leukemia at age 57. Read more at SongFTA.com.

I just stumbled over this community and decided to join! I'm looking forward to lots of discussion of Simon and Garfunkel tunes. I'd have to say that my favorite songs by the genius duo are: America, I Am A Rock, Richard Cory, So Long Frank Lloyd Wright, and...well I like all of them. ^^
I also wanted to say, as had been probably been done before, that I'm in awe of Paul's guitar work! I've just recently picked up guitar and have attempted some of his stuff and been left in the dust! It really makes you appreciate it more looking at it from that standpoint.

I've Googled and Wikied and the like but have not found what I'm looking for:
I was wondering if there are any S&G song lyrics, or even just titles, written in Paul Simon or Art Garfunkel's handwriting? I'm looking in particular for 'The Only Living Boy in New York' - just the title would do.
Such a thing may not be out there but I thought I'd seek your wisdom just in case :o)
Hey, again. Sorry, but they are just too good not to. Plus, I'm doing a bunch of abstracts and an analysis on some of Simon's songs for English so I've got the bug. 1-25 Stranger Than Fiction 26-34 Simon & Garfunkel 35-45 Paul Simon 45-50 Spoon Album Covers 26. 36. 44.
OMG I LOVE SIMON AND GARFUNKLE! THEY ROCK HARDCORE!!
Hey do you guys know if Paul Simon actually wrote "The 59th Street Bridge Song"?
Because I've heard a different version of that song by someone else and was wondering to whom it belonged originally... Anyhow, I can't even decide what my favorite Simon and Garfunkle song is. It's either: "The Sound of Silence" "April Come She Will" "I Am A Rock" "The Leaves That Are Green"
Also, go watch the movie The Graduate because Simon and Garfunkle wrote the entire soundtrack to the movie. It's awesome.
