Hi everyone!

Would anyone be interested in becoming a co-mod?
Stuff to do would be tagging entries and maybe create a layout?

Let me know!

FedCon XVII was brilliant! I am so sad that it is over. And soooooooo shocked that the gold tickets for next year are already sold out! What happened there? Where did all that ticket buy panic come from? And the Maritim is also almost booked out..... gee, this is unbelievable! Not even a month has gone by since last FedCon!

So, some thoughts on FedCon XVII: how did Marc B Lee call it? Jägercon? I think he meant it in a good way but I think that stank! I mean it is great to have a great sponsor but Jägermeister and their shots of very cheap alcohol... that does not belong at FedCon. It was just drinking alcohol for the sake of getting drunk quickly and I hate that.

But everything else was great, I especially enjoyed the breakfast. It was fantastic and delicious and every now and then a star would cross your path. On the first morning (friday) Rene Auberjoinois was always there when I turned around and Peter Jurasik I saw all the time, everywhere I looked : Oh, there he is again!

Photosessions are always good but this year there were so many I had to go to. Well, you know, HAD to....

The songcontest was such a brilliant idea and done so incredibly well and sooooooooooo funny! I loved it!

And everyone enjoyed the Closing trailer! Awsome work, [info]absolutbritish. I helped, a little, so I'm also very pleased.

So thats all for today, and btw: less than a year till next FedCon!

And Sigourney Weaver next year (with a big question mar, a bigger perhapes and a huge maybe!). That would be just beyond cool.

Day 1 - 17.04.08

We left around 10.30am to get the last few errands done (get money from the post office, exchange money from CHF to €, get our car filled with gasoline...) and were on the road for good at around 11.30am.
We made it to Bonn without any problems. We even found the Hotel at first try - thanks to me printing out some maps and directions beforehand! :-p We also learned a neat shortcut from a cap driver last year!
We decided to have dinner in our room rather than downstairs in a restaurant - and oh dear god the food was so good! I don't remember the last time I ate so good and so much!

After that came a shower and then really early bed time at 9pm. We had a long day behind us and one in front of us so a lot of sleep was a good idea!

Day 2 - 18.04.08

We got up at 6.30am and went for breakfast at 7am - avoiding big masses of hungry people that early in the morning! (Mmmm the Maritim Hotel has this really tasty Birchermüsli and I even found dried banana and added it on top of it. SO GOOD!)
On our way from the elevator to the restaurant we noticed that people were already staying in line to register for the convention in 2009. Early registration = low number = better seats and a closer hotel if not the convention hotel itself and of course first entrance to autograph sessions. So we joined that line (earlier than any year before - in fact that was the earliest there ever was a line forming :-p) 2hrs later we were signed up for 2009 with the numbers 110 and 111 - the lowest numbers we've ever had too!
Then we quickly went back to our room to get our papers so we get our week end access passes to the convention and autograph coupons. I think that took us another hour because low numbers also get stuck in the longest entry queue because everybody with a low numbers is a passionated fan, wanting to be there really early to make sure they don't miss a thing. (Compared to the high numbers , 3000+, who usually only show up after lunch. Ha it's true though! Maybe we're all just Borg!)
After 3hrs in queues I took a nap until 3.30pm since no panel interested me at this point. (Richard Arnold, I mean... yeah I've read it on the internet by now!)
We had something small to eat and then went to the dealer's rooms - you know the rooms with all the merchandise you can only dream of and you could spend all of your money in.

However before we got to the money spending part, we saw that Brent Spiner, John DeLanice, LeVar Burton and Marina Sirtis would be signing autographs shortly and since people were already forming a rather long queue we decided to skip the shopping and join the line.
I got an autograph from Brent Spiner on my S10 FRIENDS DVDs. He took a look at them and the following conversation happened:

Brent: You know I was on Joey too!
Q: Oh I know! In fact I asked you a question about it the last time you were at FedCon!
Brent: Oh is that right. Did I tell you the truth?
Q: Nah... I don't think so!
Brent: Eh, oh well!

:-p This was a bit of a theme with him on the week end, fans telling him he isn't that truthful and such. It was all in good fun though.

Then [info]ck_morpheus talked with him about Threshold for a moment before we could move on to LeVar Burton.
We spend about an hour in line so we totally missed Bruce Boxleitner's panel. We decided that for all the panels that were on during dinner time, we would skip Mary McDonnell's and go eat instead. We were seated at the far end of the restaurant which is only two doors away from the stage so I could hear Marc B. Lee ([info]fedconmc) announce Mary McDonnell and heard her talk for a while.

Dinner was nice. I didn't like the meat they had so I ate all vegetarian - and some more dessert to make up for the missing calories :-p
Once done with winner, we went to John DeLancie's panel. He wasn't on yet so we saw the last few minutes of Mary McDonnell's panel - she was lovely. Then John came on, pictures were taken :-p

Michael Shanks was supposed to be on after that but he hadn't arrived yet so they switched his panel with Jamie Bamber's. In retrospect I would have much rather have skipped Jamie's panel than Mary's but that change was announced way too late :-/

more pictures )

After Jamie was the opening ceremony where all guest (actors, guest lecturers and other people of interest that were invited) show up on the stage and say a few words. Cue Kevin Sorbo and Steve Bacic coming out with alcohol and trying to get Michale Shanks drunk. You know it might have been funny the first few times but I cannot take another Germany Beer joke - it just is not funny anymore and it's also not that funny if people are drunk on stage (or can't even make it out of their beds because they partied all night long and ignore their fans...). Of course it didn't help that the main sponsor for the event this year was Jägermeister *frowns*. Free alcohol, just great!

more pictures )

Apparently at some point in the afternoon [info]fedconmc had asked the fans to ask every person who came on stage if they had seen Jamie Bamber naked - some sort of running gag - HILARIOUS to no end! Jamie, have you seen Jamie naked? HAHA!

After the opening ceremony Brent Spiner had his first panel. Yeah he won't be telling you the truth if you ask a question but you will be in stitches the entire 45mins because the man is that funny!

And the last panel after that was finally Michael Shanks! The highlight were two fans who bought him a black speedo in the hope he would wear it to his next panel (he refused and said his pale man-thights are only for himself to see naked and sometimes Mrs Shanks.) and a little pamphlet about all thinks important about Atlantis. Michael read only one line from the pamphlet, but it was the killer anyway: DO NOT FEED RODNEY! This was accompanied by his comment: Somehow this must be important! Stiches.. STITCHES!
What was a bit irritating though was that he either ignored fangirls or made really mean fun of them. A little more respect would have been nice. At least Brent spins it in a way that you walk away thinking he was just nice to you when really he wasn't :-p

more pictures )

It was close to 11pm by the time we were back in our room and I could finally shower! We had a late midnight snack and two episodes of FRIENDS and then bed time. Mmmmgreat day!

Day 3 - 19.04.08

Day 3 started with us getting up at 8.30am to get breakfast at 9am - which was way too late for my taste thus instead of my usual Birchermüsli I had two croissants and fruite juice - which is not that filling.
Then we went right to René Auberjonois's panel.

After that we went upstairs to the Michael Shanks photo session (which you have already seen in my dailies). So far this was the longer line we were in :-) Michael was great though, wished me a nice day and all.
Right after that we waited in line for the photo session with Bruce Boxleitner and Peter Jurasik and somebody dressed up as Kosh. because [info]ck_morpheus wanted to get a picture with them. Thank god we were mich closer to the beginning of the line this time!
Then came already lunch time, this missing Michelle Forbes' panel. We went up to our room after lunch for a little break and went back down just in time for LeVar Burton's panel.

Mild confusion occurred when we wanted to go to the official autograph session because some actors were oly there on Saturday and some only on Sunday. On previous cons you could only enter the autograph session once but it appeared that now things have changed. They have a much better system now and it's also faster because you don't have to wait in line the entrie time, you can switch between people you want to get an autograph of.
[info]ck_morpheus got an autograph from Jamie Bamber, Nicki Clyne and René Auberjonois (who was really grumpy and unhappy for some reason). He also got one from Mary McDonnell who for some reason didn't allow pictures to be taken of her.
I got my Tru Calling DVDs signed by Leah Cairns (who told me while signing them that she was supposed to be the female lead but was kicked off by FOX because FOX had decided not to do Faith and offered Eliza Duskhu to pick any role on any upcoming show and she picked the lead for Tru Calling - stuff you learn at conventions...) and my Dead Like Me DVDs by Nicky Clyne - who was very concerned to leave enough space for other people who might come to fedcon to sign them. Aww :-)
We spend a whole hour doing that so we needed a break and watched some more Friends up in our room (after we had put the autographed stuff into the safe :-p).
And at 5pm we were right on time for the second panel with Michael Shanks. We left a little early though to avoid a massive line at the restaurant.

more pictures )

We missed a good portion of the costume contest because of dinner but that was better than missing all of Michael Shanks' panel, right? However I think the stuff they had on during the time the judged were deliberating was much more worth it than the contest itself! They did a Star Trek version of the Eurovision grand prix de la chanson . which was about the most hilarious thing I've ever seen!
Komm doch mal rüber man weill ich ja sowieso gewin weil ich ein Ferengi bin!
There was also a Cardassion version of 'Memories' that was about killing Bajorans... just when you thought you had seen everything Fandom has to offer!

After that [info]ck_morpheus stayed for Marina Sirtis' panel while I went for a shower - and blow dried my hair for the first time in my adult life. That was different. And I liked it too!

And I was right in time for the double panel with Mary McDonnell and Jamie Bamber. They had some pretty interesting stuff to say about their characters on BSG and their show in general - but refused to give us spoilers beyond 4x02.

an awful lot more of pictures )

The images with the smoke in them are from a very funny scene actually. Mary way talking about something when the smoke machine directly behind her went off - a sign that they only had 5 more minutes left on the stage. She didn't notice the smoke until Jamie made a joke about her farting so much and when she turned around and saw all the smoke she just started laughing so hard about it all - yeah you probably had to be there to think this is funny :-p

Then came the last panel of the day with Bruce Boxleitner and Peter Jurasik. Together they brought a lot of energy to the stage and bounce jokes off each other like you wouldn't believe. Sometimes even in character of B5 :-p They also encouraged fans to ask dirty question since the statue of limitation of 10 years had just run out on Babylon 5 and they could now freely talk about anything that happened on the show :-p

more pictures here )

I think I annoyed a lot of people that night with the constant click of my camera. Especially seeing how we were seated in row 10 which is not great for pictures, especially without a flash. The guy in front of me with a very old Leika camera and actual film used a mini flash and bounced off the chairs in front of him and I am pretty certain not one of his pictures came out good.

Back in our room we watched two more episodes of Friends and had a later dinner right before sleep.

Day 4 - 20.04.08

We got up much earlier to have breakfast before the big masses and to get 2 more hours between breakfast and lunch! And since the early bird had some time to kill after breakfast, we watched some more Friends.
Then the original plan was to go to John DeLancie's panel at 10.10am but as we arrived in the lobby we saw huge lines for the photograph pick-up and the autograph sessions. Because they were up to high numbers already we decided to skip the panel and pick up our photographs right away and get them singed ASAP.
I got my photograph with Michael signed and when [info]ck_morpheus was done with his pictures we went over to René Auberjonois one more time and each donated 10€ to Doctors without Borders. In turn we got a drawing by René himself. I might scan it at a later date.
A quick trip back to the room to deposit our photographs and back down just in time for Michelle Forbes' second panel.

more pictures )

There was also a fan-film South Park style about TNG - very amusing and so well made!
After that short movie came Nicki Clyne's panel. [info]ck_morpheus wanted to see her panel so we stayed. However we both didn't find her too entertaining so we left for lunch earlier than planed.

more pictures )

Lunch was really relaxed and for me again without meat. I have to say sitting there in the almost empty restaurant, no rush to leave and enjoying dessert and a coffee with my boyfriend was my favorite part of the whole week end :-)

Still in no rush we headed back to the main bridge for Peter Jurasik's panel. He was slightly less funny without Bruce Boxleitner next to him but for that he said some interesting and deep things about life and what kind of advice he would give you actors and such. Very interesting stuff, not something I expected to hear at a convention.

The next panel was with René Auberjonois - who was much more pleasant and less grumpy on stage than in person during the autograph session. He told us that he raised well over 1000€ for Doctors without Border in the past two days while he was giving autographs. I had expected less to be honest because I never saw anyone in line to get his autograph.

And the very last panel for this convention was actually a tripple-panel: Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner and LeVar Burton!
By now Brent was going by Thomas Keck as a joke of somebody who asked him a weird question. He even went as far as striking out his own name on some papers hanging around and replacing it with Keck. HEHE!
Now you can imagine, both Brent and Marina are hilarious on their own, but together and with LeVar on top of it the laughing never really stopped! Sadly Brent and LeVar had to leave already 20 minutes later to catch their flight back home.

And then we had already reached the closing ceremony! Usually the actors would prepare something little for a last shot at entertainment but this year only Julie Caitlin Brown had something prepared: A song from her CD. So yeah, the whole closing was a bit disappointing.

more pictures )

Nevertheless fun was had and [info]fedconmc told us at the very end that he is trying to convince people to try and get Sigourney Weaver for FedCon XVIII.
We waited until most of the people had left the room before we made it back to our room where we had dinner, watched the rest of the Friends DVDs we had brought with us and then we started packing and had an earlyish night.

Day 5 - 21.04.08

Got up at around 8.30am, had breakfast at 9am and were on our way by 10am. We managed to get home without any detours and without anybody searching our car - yay! Here are some random pictures from that day.

All in all it was a much better convention that last year. I also got all the autographs I wanted and still had some money in my wallet on the day we went back home - that is always a good thing :-)

See you next year!

So, FedCon 17 is over and I just LOVED it.
The guest line up was fantastic, my personal highlights were the TNG guests, Peter Jurasic and Michael Shanks.

I think it was a terrific convention and I'd be interested in your opinions.
OMG, I definitely need to get over that con blues...

I think FedCon 16 was a great con - absolutely fantastic!

Well, there obviously were some personal negatives, like the heat, the food (which in my opinion was definitely better in Fulda and demanding 3,50€ for 0.5 litres of water - that definitely pissed me off a bit!)
Oh yeah another negative aspect was the broken cash machine in the Maritim, I had to go and get money. Asthe location of the Maritim is not as good as the location of the Esperanto (which btw. was close to shops, cashpoints and the railway station!) my friend and I had to walk for quite some time to get some money. All in all we missed two panels because of the whole affair!

But of course I enjoyed the con a lot!
My absolute favourite was Jonathan Frakes - for me he was the highlight of the con, Kate Mulgrew was amazing - an absolute surprise for me. Garrett Wang was funny - I enjoyed his panels a lot. Anthony Montgomery was surprisingly interseting as well.
The only thing that was a bit weird and definitely different thhan I expected was my encounter with Avery Brooks. Very... umm... intense - I lack a better word at the moment.
Jewel Staite and Laura Bertram were both very nice and funny - I liked them. The panel they did together was fabulous.

SO - for me it was only my second Con. It was an adventure and I obviously loved it, but what did you think?

So the first guests have been announced. Who else would you like to see?

Star Trek: To boldly go where no man has gone before...and we're taking our women and this pointy eared guy along with us.

Star Trek (movies): To boldly go where no one has gone before...except at this point there's not much of anywhere left.

The Next Generation: To peacably and civily go where most everyone has already been but getting our asses kicked as we've evolved beyond the point of physical violence.

Deep Space Nine: To go next to nowhere most of the time yet have things from where no one has gone before come to us instead.

Voyager: Accidentally went where no one had gone before and trying to get back as fast as possible to where it's known and mostly safe.

Enterprise: We don't like them pointy eared folk.

7:54 PM 9/13/06 · There's a bit of hoopla kicking up about this updated version of the original series that's coming to television this Fall Season. Using Star Wars as a template, since this has happened before there, I'm not really concerned. It might bother me more if I were one of those types that buy series but I'm not. The only reason I've got the new versions of SW IV-VI is because it was an XMAS gift.

Also hardly a new thing, happens all the time. Most probably don't recall but in the early 80's when the technology was invented to colorize old black & white films they started doing it with everything despite how a lot of people protested...for all the good it did. It wasn't even that good because it mostly didn't touch areas there was shadow...which remained black & white.

Anyone that saw the mirror universe episodes of Enterprise, where they has a Kirk era starship done with more modern effects, had to know this was coming. It was beyond obvious and that was more than a year ago. So get over yourselves!

As before, I'm using what George Lucas did to his series as foreshadowing for this one. So, when The Trouble with Tribbles episode gets digitally remastered I'm expecting the tribbles to be 8 foot tall masses of shaggy muscle with huge razor sharp teeth. Should make that scene where hundred of them fall on Kirk all that much more amusing.

Hello@all!

I stumbled over a link for this community purely by chance when I was browsing stboard.de today.
I think it's great someone came up with the idea of a LJ - FedCon community! Thanks! So after commenting today I've been encouraged to post some of my Star Trek /Con /Fed Con /Fan activities to the community LJ, and it's my pleasure to follow that request.

So where to start? Well obviously I'm a huge Star Trek fan and I wanted to go to a convention since 1996 when Star Trek celebrated it's 30th anniversary. Back then I was in school and my mum certainly didn't want me to attend such "gatherings". I was allowed to visit Star Trek exhibitions or the World Tour when it was in town, but that was it.
10 years later - 2006, and now we're at the 40th anniversary of Star Trek - I made it, I went to my first con ever! Together with my best friend, Elisabeth irina_keff I went to Fulda.

Fulda: This FedCon was the first con I have ever been to. I loved to be there, even though there were so many people constantly complyining about being in Fulda. They always were stating that they'd rather return to Bonn and that Bonn was so much better...
I can only say that I really enjoyed my stay in Fulda. This visit has actually been my first big visit to Germany in general and I think that Fulda is a beautiful city. The Esperanto hotel was very comfortable, the staff was nice and food was excellent. The hotel I stayed in, "Peterchens Mondfahrt" was wonderful - you all should see British hotels - you'll get friendly staff but most hotels are either much smaller and less comfortable or much more expensive.

I enjoyed the con a lot - visited a lot of panels, got some autographs and certainly took a lot of pictures. Before that I've only been to DVD signings of Dr. Who DVDs in London and of course I watched Patrick Stewart in "Life in a theatre" and "A Christmas Carol" in London. I also saw another play called "Whose life is it anyway?" with Siddig El Fadil in London. Terrific, though I remember being very tired that evening.

It's very difficult to pick the best moments of FedCon 15. But there certainly have been highlights:
The Jedi Stunt Show: WOW! Terrific!
Q vs Janeway - Dean Haglund / Claudia Christian - brilliant!
The Star Trek panels - all of them were sensational!

It was my first FedCon, but it won't be my last one, that's for sure. I just hope I'll like Bonn as much as Fulda...

Was soll der scheiss??!! Jetzt freute ich schon so, dass er meinen Baseball unterschreibt und dann sagt er einfach ab. :-(

X-Files actors for FedCon - A new official poll!
