AboutAccording to the Oxford English Dictionary, there are approximately 615,000 words in the English language. We feel that this is not nearly enough!
If you often find yourself making up words to more precisely express yourself, or if you and your friends have invented your own non-universal slang terms, you have come to the right place.![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif)
fauxcabulary is a place to share with the world the words you have invented, and to supplement your own English vocabulary with a slang fauxcabulary.
This is *not* a forum for simply repeating the newest "it"-term you heard on MTV. The words you post here *must* be your own, or at least invented by someone you know. The emphasis here is on original slang and phrases. The word doesn't necessarily have to be new, but at the very least its context should be. Neologisms not to be found anywhere else!
Our intent is to make this journal a dictionary of sorts, so it is rather strictly maintained, mostly for reasons of convenience. If you would like to take part in our expansion of the English language, click here. Don't be shy! We will only very rarely deny requests. After you have been approved, you will be able to post your definitions in the community according to the format described below. However, your posts will also have to be approved by the maintainers, partially for content, but mostly just because we want to be able to file them in ourfauxcabulary Fictionary, cleverly disguised as the memories section.
Please be sure to provide the following information when posting your word or phrase:
*The word (This should be the subject of your post, which will make it easier to file in the dictionary)
*Article of speech (Noun, verb, adverb, etc.)
*A rough phonetical pronunciation
*Definition(s)
*An example sentence for context
*Etymology, a short description or story of the word's origins.
