| About: | (some details still being decided on...) What is Faux Con? Faux Con is a gathering of furs. Cool! So it's a furry convention? Hell no. "Convention" implies becoming a nonprofit corporation and negotiating with hotels and organizing schedules. That doesn't sound like fun at all. In fact, it sounds like not-fun. If we wanted not-fun, we'd stay home and do our taxes instead. So...uh...what is it, then? Like I said. It's a gathering. We're getting together to have fun. If you want to join us, awesome. We'd love to see you. So where and when is this happening? *location pending*, *date pending* Why *location*? Because they have *attraction* there. And we want to see it. You're having a furry gathering...so you can see *attraction*? Well, not just that. We're all interesting folks, and are really good at making our own fun and including the furs around us in it. If you're like that too, you're the kind of person we want to hang out with. Already several people have volunteered to use their hotel rooms as video or tabletop gaming rooms, or general gathering space. Somebody (we don't know who yet) will have to use their room as the Mother Brain, and distribute lists of what's going on, and in whose rooms it's happening. Wait, you're going to try to run a furry convention...entirely out of people's rooms? First, it's not a convention. Second, yes. That'd never work, would it? We think it will. Or it least it will fail in spectacular and interesting ways, which is almost as good. Seriously, doesn't this sound like it'll be a total disaster? It actually worked pretty well last year, so either it's a good idea or we just got really lucky last year. Come along this year if you want to find out which. So how do I register? You don't. We're having it at *hotels here*. Get a room in one of them, and come by and have fun with us. If you're doing something interesting in your room, let us know what and when, and we'll make sure everybody else knows. How I do register a table for the Dealer's Den? There is no Dealer's Den. If you want to sell stuff, feel free to do it out of your room. But anything you sell is a deal between you, the buyer, and your local taxation authority; leave us out of it. We don't want to get involved in money matters; that's all kinds of not-fun. What about the dance? The fursuit parade? The panels? Dunno. If you want one of those things, feel free to host it out of your room. We'll tell everybody where it is. How much are con shirts? Before or during the con, we'll go down to Hobby Lobby and buy a couple of dozen white T-shirts. If you want one, pay us back for it and it's yours. We'll even loan you some fabric markers to draw on it. You can't seriously expect me to draw my own con shirt. That's not a question. Can you seriously expect me to draw my own con shirt? Well, we're going to. We think it sounds like fun. If you want in on the action, awesome. What are the rules of the con? 1. Your room, your problem. (Your room is your own little mini-con, for all we care. If it happens in your room, it's on your head.) 2. Don't explode. (This is, apparently, a problem with Georgetown hotels, and we're keeping the rule for other cities just to be safe.) 3. (Corollary to Rule #1) Don't have a room? Your problem. (You're responsible for getting here and finding a legal and safe place to sleep. If the hotels get full, oh well.) Rule #3 makes it really hard to get there from my home in Saskatoon. Yeah, we can see how it would. Maybe you'd better not come, then. We're all in Central Texas, and it's convenient for us, which is all we care about. Do you have a Guest of Honor? Yes. Our Goof of Honor is Chaka. Because he was the guest of honor last year and we haven't picked a better one yet, or at least haven't updated this page. Are you insane? Probably. But they called Napoleon insane too, and look at what became of him. Watched his dreams crushed before his eyes, and died in exile on an island. On second thought, maybe Napoleon's a bad example. | |
