| I am reposting this from cera's journal, as these are her events. She is a dancer, dance instructor, and studio owner who is trying to promote a more Health At Every Size and Size Acceptance viewpoint in the fitness/yoga world. ------ Hey friends, I'm teaching 2 free classes on Sunday morning at Lulu Lemon Athletica in Union Square. It's my first event as an ambassador for them, and I wanna show them how deep SF freaks roll! It's a totally square environment for such a tree hugging hippy cult. They make a lot of "love yourself as you are" noises...but all the other ambassadors are itty bitty blonde blue eyed pink-wearing yoga instructors and ballet dancers. They invited me in to shake things up - so come help me shake it! It's free! There'll be snacks! It'll make me look good! Who's with me!? Over Valentines Day weekend, LuluLemon Athletica for 2 very special workshops! Sunday, February 17th 9-10AM - Discussion Forum! Self Love at Every Size: Awareness, Acceptance, and promoting "Fit" over "Thin". This is a forum for teachers, students, and would-be students to discuss issues of health and body-positive dialogue in an industry that is thin-crazy. What does "Health at Every Size" mean, and how can we embody, teach, and practice it as teachers and students? 10-11AM - Sultry Steps; Undulate, Wind, and Roll! Sassy moves that get you dance-floor ready! Movements are drawn from hip hop, bellydance, and jazz dance styles, and can be used by anyone! Workshops will be held at 327 Grant Ave. @ Bush, San Francisco http://www.lululemon.comClasses will be taught by Cera Byer, a dancer, choreographer, dance & Pilates instructor, and Studio owner in San Francisco. | Its a Love Your Body Day zine-making party! Join us at the A-Space (4722 Baltimore Avenue, West Philly) anytime between 11am-2:30pm on Sunday, October 21st. We will have paper and art supplies available so you can make a page that expresses how you feel on Love Your Body Day. Then we'll collect all the pages and put them together into a (hopefully) fabulous zine for you to enjoy. The theme could be anything, from something serious like an essay about gender or street harrassment, or light-hearted like a cartoon from the perspective of your hairy, misunderstood armpits, or how you feel about your body, eating disorders, hair, healthiness, dieting, an ode to your below-the-belt zone, or whatever inspires you when you get there. The theme is Celebrate Every Body. Please contact Joel (androvna@hotmail.com) with any questions. Peace! x-posted like whoa. | |

| Hey all, just wondering if anyone else is planning to go to NAAFA's International No-Diet Day festivities (first posted by mermeydele here)? I'm planning on going with one of the gals I work with at Torrid and just wondered if I'd meet any of you folks there. I missed out on the LA swap, so hopefully I'll see some of you there. Maybe after, some of you might want to make the trip out to our Torrid? It's Torrid's 6th anniversary -- I wonder if it was intentionally on International No-Diet Day? -- and we're having a shopping party at my location in Arcadia (next to the racetrack) from 6-8 p.m.. It's 20% off a purchase of $100 or more and we're going to have a goodies give-away, mini-makeovers, and cupcakes! | |

| Please re-post everywhere! FatGirl Speaks will be happening Saturday, June 9, 2007. Save the date! http://www.fatgirlspeaks.com (Will be updated soon!) What is FatGirl Speaks?: Founded on progressive feminist principles of size positivity and the promotion of natural body diversity, FatGirl Speaks is a show which seeks to energize, empower, uplift and celebrate women of size and our allies! Wanna Perform? We're looking for an army of Ample Artists who aren't afraid to BARE ARMS against those who would have us be ever-dissatisfied with our bodies and our lives as women of size. Requirements: * Performers must be women of size. We do not seek to define the term 'woman of size' for you. If you feel that you are a woman of size, you are welcome. * All pieces must be topical and relevant to the evening's theme. This is a celebration, so preference will be given to pieces that are positive and inspiring, or based on overcoming struggles or challenges in your own life. * The full text of all text-based performances (including dance routines to songs with words) must be submitted at least 3 weeks in advance in order to allow ample time for ASL interpreters to review the material. * If the number of performers that are interested in performing exceed the number of spaces we have available, there will be an audition process. Out of town performers will be required to submit video or audio tapes of their performances. Local performers will be required to attend a very informal and positive audition. *FatGirl Speaks is working on a very small budget that is at this time unknown. We are hoping to find performers who are willing to donate their time and what's better than putting on a great big show with a bunch of amazing fellow fat performers? We are of course, open to discussing lodging accommodations and helping with travel expenses if it's necessary. Please contact Jenny Bruso at jenny@notsorry.org if you would like to be a part of this flabulous event! Also check out our Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/fatgirl_speaks | |

Cool with you? If not, s'all good. I'm just so excited!

| Ok, Minnesota Fatties:
Looks like the weather may not cooperate fully for our Fat-Fast/b&lu Warehouse Shop, so if the weather gets bad and there are those who can't make it, no prob. I really, REALLY hope the weather doesn't get too cranky by the time we get going, but we will see!

| How does 10:00 am on Saturday March 24th sound to everyone?
I have spoken to the owner of a coffee shop on Greenwood about using her premises, and she said that Saturday morning is WAY better than the afternoons as far as our ability to spread out, and that she will reserve the back big table and couch area for us if we want.
Only about a dozen folks have so far expressed interest, so I think the space would work well, and they have roomie restrooms (one per gender) in case things MUST be tried on.
If this will work for folks, I'll contact her to confirm it, then I'll post the address here so ya'll can Google or MapQuest it.
Please let me know ASAP so no one jumps our space.

| All you lovely fatshionistas in the Bay Area, I'd like to invite you to my home for a clothing swap this Saturday, from 2pm to 8pm.
I am on the peninsula, off of 101 (between the Willow and University exits). If you want to join us, just send me an e-mail (username@LJ works well, or leave a comment on here with your e-mail address) and I'll be happy to give you my address.
Please bring yourself, any clothes you wish to find a new home for (if you don't have any, still come!), and a small potluck dish to share. If you have a portable clothing rack, having that available would rock my world as well.
I'm hoping to meet some of you lovely ladies, since I missed a recent get-together.
|
| hello twin cities friends! i know this is super, super early, but i just read that leslie hall will be playing at the 7th Street Entry on April 12th! i don't know how many of you are fans, but leslie is my secret girlfriend and i can't wait to see her and her gem sweaters. i think we should get together and have dinner or something before the show (doors at 8). what do you think? i will totally post reminders as the event day nears. but i just wanted to give those of you who love leslie a heads up in advance. YAY! ps) you can d/l her album (for $9.95 ) on Napster if you're not familiar with her music. | |
|
| hey all...from a recent posting i got the impression that there are more of us around here than i thought. mostly this is kind of a roll call to see who is around me, but also because i think it would be cool to get together sometime to hang and/or do clothing exchanges and the like. so who are my peeps in the baltimore (or nearby metropolitan)/DC/lower Penn/etc area? anyone interested in some sort of meetup? | |
|
| Okay, with all the meetin-up going on, I am verily jealous because I 1) No longer live in Western Mass, which is close enough for me to go to both the Boston AND the New York AND maybe even the Philly meetups, and 2) There are, apparently, no fat chicks in Southern California. I know this isn't really true, but sometimes? It totally seems like it. So! What would the gorgeous fatties on this community say to a SoCal meetup? I'm in San Diego, personally, but I imagine there are a lot of folks in the San Diego/Los Angeles and combined surburbs and we could have an awesome meetup if we wanted to. I was thinking maybe possibly join clothing swap/Hairspray viewing/snackerating type event, on a weekend sometime. Would anyone be interested in going/hosting? ooper67 and I would totally host, but we love in El Cajon which I imagine is EXTRA out of the way for most folks. But seriously, what if we met up somewhere betwixt LA and SD? Or if there aren't many folks in SD, somewhere in LA? Thoughts? | |
|
| A while back, a Toronto fatshionista suggested a get-together to actually meet F2F.
I couldn't go at the time, as it conflicted with previous commitments and deadlines. Would any of the Toronto fatshionistas be interested in doing it again with a bit more advance notice? say one to two weeks out? Could be coffee, could be shopping, could be a clothing swap, could be one of the many, many lectures or literary events around town, could be a poetry jam, could be whatever.
Suggestions: Grenadier Pond in High Park is frozen over and while not "officially" open for skating, it's in use by the locals. I was out on the ice yesterday. Also, there is skating at Harbourfront, not to mention it's Black History Month and there are going to be some fabulous concerts down by the lake. There there all the Winterlicious events....
If post holiday budgets are a concern, I can throw my doors open for a potluck. Deepest darkest Parklawn, on the west side of the Humber.

Lots of skin, lots of drums, lots of hair, and some crazy kick-ass dance numbers for people who like it loud, hard, and rough. The rocker vibe of PA’s, combined with live rock from cover band 1977 and costumes that just won’t quit, makes HEAVY METAL HOLIDAYS a show for Big Moves fans to remember. Performers will include Phat Fly Girls (hip hop), Filling the Stage (jazz and musical theater), and Caravan of Curves (bellydance), plus Big Moves poet laureate Jaclyn Friedman and our own Amazonian emcee, Alicia Greene. We’re also bringing audiences on stage with us for two contests--air guitar AND big hair—in which we put up our own champions in each division against volunteers from the audience. Winners receive great prize packages from Big Moves and our corporate sponsors. **UPDATE!** Bring your gently used plus-size coats, sweaters, and winter wear (2x and over) and large boots and winter shoes to donate to the Women's Lunch Place, a daytime drop-in resource for poor and homeless women in Boston.
