16th-Jun-2008 02:25 pm - Costume Help
Hello my fellow fatshionistas,
Next month I'm going to a Birthday party for a friend and the theme is Batman, & costumes are required.

I am planning as dressing up as Poison Ivy.
If you were to dress up as Poison Ivy, how would you do it?

I'm looking for any costume suggestions, or cool accessories ideas I could make so that my costume could be a prize winner.

I'm pretty good a sewing, and totally a D.I.Yer and I have a month to make/assemble my costume.
Any suggestions or photos, or links to a costume how-to would be appreciated.
Thanks so much.

24th-Feb-2008 11:59 am - Hello Dolly DIVA pics
I just finished our run of Hello DOlly where I played Ernestina Money. I got to change from a semi normal townsperson into a Diva (hopefully any Drag Queen would be proud of), complete with hot pink stiletto heels, bright purple boa and an amazing headpiece. I wish I had more photos of the whole gown. Im still kinda holding out hope that there were other people that took some photos...so I shall look around and post if I find some.

Me pre show.
11th-Jan-2008 10:39 am - PLUG for petticoats
A couple times I wrote in looking for plus-sized black petticoats. Well, I found a good source and wanted to share it.

Now, square dance stores are generally good for these things. Lots of chunky ladies twirling their stuff, right? But faced with a looming performance deadline, I called 5 different online sources and Ginny was the only one who had four of the largest available petticoats (Malco Modes), in black, in stock. She zipped it out so fast, with a reasonable expedited rate, and when it turned out that one was defective, she shipped the replacement out BEFORE receiving the return.

The petticoats are not hella short, but they are poufy and black net and all things goth and sexy and fabulous. We are rolling the satiny waist part up to shorten the length. AND the largest one fits a 26-28, which is not too bad.

Anyway, just wanted to share a good source. Ta!

Well hello lovelies,

This is my first post here. Hopefully it's alright but I'm looking for some advice regarding an outfit I have to wear for a performance. It's a strip number that will end up with me in just fishnets and something like booty shorts over top. I did it before and was wearing a corset which kept everything up top all snug. This time I will end up topless (fyi for reference I'm ftm and have had top surgery).

Last time I wore black cotton Fruit of the Loom box cut boys underwear. They were fine, but I had the corset on to do belly control. This time I'm looking for something better. Without the corset I don't want the shorts to roll or flip down under my belly, know what I mean? I'd like them to sit just over my belly and stay there while I dance. And I also would prefer something that just sits on my body without cutting into it. I'm getting to be ok showing my body but I'd prefer if it didn't look like my clothes were cutting into my body.

I don't know if I'm even making much sense.

Basically, can anyone recommend some brand or a particular style of "booty shorts" for a chubster? Even recommendations about certain cuts that I should look for.

I'm in Canada (Toronto)

Thanks! I'm looking forward to being in this community!

Here's a couple pictures so you know what I'm working with.

13th-Nov-2007 11:46 pm - Late Halloween costume
I've been lurking (and occasionally purchasing) but this is the first time I've posted any pictures. I was a bellydancer for Halloween this year, and I just got copies of the party pix forwarded to me. The top is a real coin scarf over a lizard-print bra. The skirt is actually two leopard-print sarongs. The fringe showing on the skirt is the trim on a shawl of bronze coins. You can't really tell from these, but I had an I Dream of Jeannie ponytail going on with my hair.

* * *

There were about 60 people at the party, including quite a few strangers, but I had a terrific time and got a lot of compliments on my outfit. Some day I'd like to take bellydance lessons, but so far it's the same old story: When you have time, you have no money, when you have money, you have no time!
4th-Nov-2007 01:29 am - Outfit of the Halloween!
hi!  i've never posted here before, but i've been lurking over a year now.  i want to say that i am totally inspired by all of you lovelies, and being part of this community has really been a pleasure.  it's helped me to not only feel more comfortable in my skin, but given me countless ideas on how to dress well for my body type.  my hesitation to post comes from my inbetweenie status--on the 10/12/14 cusp, depending on the manufacturer, cut and style, but mostly leaning towards the higher end these days.    however, i was totally digging my costume this year (a Bad Fairy!), and wanted to share along with all of you're amazing and beautiful costumes.

i went to pittsburgh with a group of friends the weekend before halloween, and, as we were missing all of our hometown parties (d.c. baby!), we made a night it friday, and went out fully attired to several bars in south side.

(ps - mods, if you deem my inbetweenie status grounds for non-approval, i totally understand, and give you many thanks for all of the hard work you put into making fatshionista such a great community)
2nd-Nov-2007 03:26 am - My gothy Costume-gasm this All Hallows Eve
You must forgive the lateness of this costume post. I'm a face & body painter so I am slammed working through the Halloween season. I am only now recovering from the exhaustion. I hardly get my own time to celebrate, but on Wednesday night we at least went out to dinner with our gothy family, and I got to throw together a very impromptu costume. I am happy to say I got this idea from Fatshionistas on a costume post I made a couple months ago... ;) sort of a Goth Babydoll

i went as a spooky dolly this year. i did a couple of my friends' hair and make up and we ended up being 2 hours late for the party. oops! so i was in a hurry when i was doing my own make up and i ended up missing some of my cleavage.

boo! )
31st-Oct-2007 11:51 pm - Halloween: Ida B. Wells (aka 19th century ish costume)
My Halloween costume was a rehash of an earlier steampunk costume. I really need to redo the bodice completely. It's too loose in the torso, and not long enough. Anyway, it's a vaguely historical outfit and I wanted to have my costume be someone. I decided on Ida B. Wells early suffragette and anti-racism activist (mmm...feminism and negritude for Halloween).

1st-Nov-2007 12:53 am - not so exciting costume

my costume was 100% underwhelming this year. i put it together 15 minutes before we went out. i was a girly zombie. vintage slip and shawl. scary makeup thanks to .99 kit zombie kit from walgreen's. i'm jealous of everyone with their awesome costumes!!!

***ETA*** better photo. but still dangerously low resolution

31st-Oct-2007 08:45 pm - I love Halloween.
The costume is mostly things I had in my closet. Vest from King Size Direct, pants and shirt from Casual Male, dress shoes from Target. The bowler hat, arm garters and fake 'stache from a costume shop. The string tie is a couple of yards of ribbon from Joann's. I had a lot of guesses as to what my costume was.

Guess the persona. )

The last photo is just one to give an example of my face without the 'stache. I have sort of fallen in love with how I look in a bowler.

31st-Oct-2007 01:39 pm - I <3 Halloween
This year, I had a whopping budget of $0.00, so I cobbled together an outfit from elements I already had!

Hat purchased from someone on [info]fatshionista a long time ago, jacket from Torrid, skirt from Kmart years ago (Kathy Ireland brand! Hah!), heels by Unlisted. And, you can't see it from the photos, but my stockings are black pinstripe Queen Latifah brand.

More pictures below the cut! )

You can probably guess as much from the photos, but I'm a film noir femme fatale.
