| Hello lovelies!!! I wanted to post some things before Spring Break but I didn't get a chance to before I left for Miami (which was beautiful!) | |
|
| Fatshionistas I am asking for help again... I have this jacket/coat thing I got at Old Navy because I needed something fast and it was $25. It "fits" (as in I put it on and it's comfortable), but it doesn't really fit and I kinda wince when I see it in the mirror because it makes me look like a bit of a frumpalicious linebacker (even my boyfriend sadly agreed when prompted). The problem, I've decided, is that it's cut for someone about 5" taller than I am. I think I either need to get a new coat, or have it altered somehow in order to fight the frump. 2 questions... 1. How could I save this jacket? ( pics of jacket )2. Where can I find nice clothes for someone who is a size 16 but a petite on top? My torso space is virtually nil. Most of my 5 foot 2 inches is in my legs. | |

| I had to share! I told Tim that all I really wanted for Christmas was a dressy winter coat. I really never needed on until I started working in the city, taking public transportation to work. I needed something dressy and long, but didn't want to have just a plain black coat, and peacoats just make me look bigger. So, I found this beautiful coat at Jessica London. I feared a white coat would get dirty before I got off the first train, so opted for the black one with the multi-colored embroidery. So, he ordered it for me. It arrived yesterday, just in time to wear to our holiday party. I love it! It's a good length for me. I'm 5'2" and I thought it would be too long, but it's not. I got lots of compliments and it fits me very well -- not too big, not to tight. They have sizes up to 26W. I usually wear tops that are 2x, sometimes 1x. My blazers are usually 18W or 20W and this coat is a 20W, and most of my weight is in my tummy. So, I just wanted to let you know about it. I read that there have been bad Jessica London experiences so was a little leery, but I have to say that I received the coat quickly and it's beautiful. :) - Tags:coats

| I am so freaking happy I finally found a Peacoat that isn't cut for a linebacker (huge shoulders, small waist) or a chubby girl with skinny arms (wtf?). I've been looking for a good fitting peacoat for a couple years and my search is over. Thank you Jessica London! I tried it because I got a promo email that had 10 of their items 40% off or something and the coat was one of them. They have a couple colors on sale for $39.99, and the rest of the colors (oh yes, my friends, there's at least 6 different colors instead of black and black) are $79.99-$89.99. So I picked mine up ... my beautiful purple peacoat. *swoon* | |

| Dear Fatshionistas, I need your help. I would really, really, really like a coat like the one in the picture below: Does anyone know of where I could find one? | |
|
| how i wish i had more disposable income. None of it feels disposable these days. but i need a new winter coat and i'm looking for something classic looking. and i walked into Lee Lee's Valise tonight and fell in love with a coat. Sadly 1. it's not a winter coat, it's a lightweight fall coat. 2. i can't afford it anyway. but here's a picture of it under the cut. ( Read more... )http://www.trentacosta.com/rococosundress.html (ignore the url name, it's not a dress) I love it in both the Teal and the Charcoal. It's both a little bit military and a wee bit french. But for about $300 less I spied this cute (not as cute) coat from Missphit. https://www.missphit.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=72 they only had the 1x or the 3x and of course I think i'm a 2x. She said she's getting them in next week so I'll go back and try them on with a sweater underneath. I know I could order it from the internet but I'd rather support my local shop, especially because I can't afford to buy a lot of what she carries, or that I just don't NEED it even if I can afford it. So, I'm excited to buy from her. Blah blah blah. I'm chatty today. It's funny that I found a coat because I wasn't really looking for one even tho' I wanted one. I thought I could make due with my old beat up down coat (which I could). I was discussing my theory of shopping when you're not looking for something specific to my friends over the weekend. I find that I usually have the best shopping experience then, not when I'm sweating to find "just the right thing". That's usually way too stressful for me. I'm glad I got to prove my theory to myself today. Yay! - Tags:coats

| What's with places like Timberland and Overstock dot com selling leather jackets up to size 14 and then just stopping? I don't get it.
I'm searching for a leather jacket, preferably hipster or scuba style sans belt & hood. I need it to have a zip-in lining and be able to handle very cold and very warm weather. I want it to be plum or purple or red or crimson or cranberry or some variation. I want it to fit my 18/20 tummy and giant baby-eating titties.
Any suggestions on reputable places?
I also don't want to spend 230498454345.22 dollars.
I'm in the United States.

| http://tinyurl.com/3b4qgtSo I'm considering this faux-shearling coat from LL Bean (probably in the brown or dark plum). It's the length I'm looking for- something that'll hit below my butt and above my knee and I like the overall look of the coat. My problem is that apparently my ass/hips are not proportional to my upper body. I really never thought this personally until I've been trying on/wearing coats more and realize that the lower buttons/zipper weren't fitting/closing when the upper part of the coat was fine. I often fit comfortably in a large in styles that hit higher up at stores like Target. It seems like a coat like this LL Bean one might be a good style based on what I want, but I'm kind of looking for reassurance and/or stories about LL Bean sizing. Looking at the size chart, it's going off of bust size for the coat. I hastily measured myself and came up with 44 inches (I'll try for a more accurate number this evening) and that puts me at the XL size but I don't have huge boobs. Usually they seem like larger B boobs so... I dunno. I've been wearing a 16ish in pants which is also why seeing that the XL is for 18-20 makes me wary as my top half seems quite comfortable in larges from places like Target (ok, I admit nearly all my basic tops are from there and I haven't tried on stuff in other stores recently enough to confidently know how I fit in other things). Thoughts or suggestions? Ideas for other coats are fine, just probably nothing with a belt as that doesn't seem to work for me very well (and I'm realizing I only like the look of certain belted coats on very specific bodies anyway). | |

| I love pea coats. I adore their cut and style and classic sensability. Yet, I've never owned one. The reason is that I am deathly allergic to Wool. I prefer not to even tempt fate with most animal fibers, because the hives are unbearable. So, what's a fatshionista to do this time of year when everything stylish and fashionable and classicly cute has some wool in it?! I'm asking you awesome ladies if you've seen anything out there? I really like some of the newer longer swing coats, too. They have like 3-4 buttons on top but the coat goes to the knees...nice! Also, I'm around a size 30. So whenever I do find something that could work, it usually doesn't go up to my size. I'm sick of looking. I feel I have exhausted the internets and they are exacting their revenge on my with nothing but wooliness! Itchy!!! Thanks in advance fellow fatshionistas...you rock! | |

| hey all, does anyone have this coat from old navy? i'm kind of digging it, but as we all know, their sizes are kind of wonky. anyone have this coat, specifically in the 4x? is it smaller/bigger/just right? any advice you have would be greatly appreciated! thanks. xo. | |

| hi all, just a question about these adorable old navy wool toggle peacoats. how does the sizing run? i normally wear an XXL in regular old navy knit tops and a 2x in the plus tops, but with a coat, i was thinking maybe i should size up to a 3x to allow for layering. does anyone own this who could offer some feedback? if so, thanks! | |

| I want to replace my winter coat, but I'm not sure what style to go for. Here are some details:
Me: 5'6", UK size 20 (US 16/18), large breasts and hips (slightly wider hips than chest), definite waist but not as pronounced as people usually mean when they talk about an hourglass figure. "Summer" colour type, i.e. I tend to look washed-out in black and don't suit very bright colours, but some strong colours do look good on me, e.g. burgundy or bottle-green.
What I want the coat for: To wear over a trousersuit or jeans. Ideally smart enough for work (I am a lawyer, but mostly responsible for know-how and training, so don't need to impress clients), but casual enough to look okay in a pub full of geeks and Doctor Who fans. Preferably wearable from mid-autumn to mid-spring in London, England - i.e. the temperature is unlikely to drop more than a few degrees below freezing.
Any suggestions welcome. If you can link to pictures of the styles you have in mind, that would be fantastic. It's okay to link to US and other non-British stores - it will give me an idea of what you mean, and I can look for something similar here myself. Thanks! - Tags:coats

| I need to replace my basic black trench, a Worthington which I got at JCPenneys when I started college. The belt buckle's busted, the shoulder straps fell off ages ago, it's threadbare...the whole thing is gradually becoming less Dana Scully and more Columbo. I don't wanna fix it; the damn thing is thirteen years old. I just want a new one.
Does anybody know where I can get just a regular, basic, PLAIN full-length black fabric trench? No stitching, no cutesy little shit on it [the usual straps and buckles and stuff are fine, though]. I am roughly a 20 in jeans [45-38-49].
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :) - Tags:coats

| It's that time of year to shop for a winter jacket, I can never seem to find one I like that fits properly because of my uh.. ample bosom... I have put a picture behind a cut, anyone have a suggestion of a type of jacket that might look ok? I also wanted some suggestions of where to shop, I have checked Target, nothing, Fashion Bug, nothing.. I was thinking of going to Lane Bryant and Old Navy... Thanks!! ( onward to the photo! ) | |

| I know the only really reliable way to get a fit from online stores is to try and return and try and return, but I admit that I hate that, so any words of advice I can get from anyone here which even stand a chance of helping will be gratefully received. I want a new winter coat. Last year, I waited until February or so, which turned out to be a bad plan, so I'm trying to come up with options now. ( Cut for a digression on where to look for a coat - not my main point, but advice definitely welcome. )But my main question is actually that I've just stumbled across http://www.onestopplus.com. They've got quite a selection, of a lot of different brands, but they offer only one sizing chart, which makes me leery, especially because it puts me at a 28, when I've never been more than a 24 before. I have gained some inches, so...maybe this is correct? But the Silhouettes sizing chart has me back at 24. Two of the possible coats I've found on this site are Jessica London. Does anyone know anything about whether they tend to run small, large, shoddy, etc.? | |

| I went shopping last week, in search of fall clothes. Clothes shopping is far from my favorite activity, but some of my favorite clothes are a little too tight and others are getting worn out. I hate the way a skirt that looked great 5 years ago, and looked pretty good 2 years ago, now has rough patches on the hip where my bags rub against it, or the pattern is all fuzzy with the colors running together just a little along the edges. I still love it, and still want to wear it...but I'm afraid I don't look professionally dressed up and pulled together when I'm wearing something that looks so worn. It's not a hole I can mend (though mended holes contribute to the worn-out look in other clothes), it's just looking generally worn-out. *sigh*
I don't have a particular event to dress for, but I'm looking for work and going to networking events and hoping to go to job interviews and so forth. I have a good interview suit that still fits, and I'm ok with shirts, but I needed other stuff. Black trousers, tan trousers, a nice jacket, maybe some kind of waistcoat. New black jeans. I may post about my experience with trousers another day. I wore out my hands working buttons before I found some that fit.
When I first walked into Marshalls, I saw a gorgeous long coat, red and gold brocade with a mandarin collar. I thought "Fandom means never having to say, 'It's lovely, but where on earth would I wear it?'" It hangs almost straight from shoulders to knees, opening out only a little at the hips (like a narrow A-line). The brocade was really lovely, but the style didn't do much for me. I wondered how it's supposed to be worn, how dressy it is? It's not warm enough to be an overcoat. It's stiff, like a light blazer. It might be comfortable outside at 50F, if it wasn't raining. It's long enough to hang out the bottom of many overcoats, and it seems more awkward to have 18" of jacket sticking out under your coat than a comparable amount of skirt.
The store had lots of long jackets, in different patterns and styles. I ended up getting a less flamboyant-looking one, that seemed to be more wearable. It's embroidered wool, softer than the brocade, and only comes to mid-thigh. I'm wondering what to wear under it, with the mandarin collar. In the winter, I'd wear a turtleneck, but I want to start wearing the jacket in the next few weeks. I have a silk shirt that would be a good color for the outfit, but it has a plain open collar like a man's shirt, and I'm not sure how to make that work. Should I just keep the jacket buttoned all the way up and it won't matter what I have underneath?
I have another concern with this jacket, or with any jacket that's supposed to button all the way up. I usually have my phone and PDA on my belt, which makes my waistline not just big, but lumpy. Is there a good way to coordinate this with wearing a jacket? My old favorite jacket is hip length, but has convenient pockets, so I take my things off my belt and put them in the jacket pockets, but this new embroidered jacket has no pockets.
