OOTD: Outfit of the surprise trip to Portland
[info]_feckless
My husband surprised me with a weekend trip to Portland for the 4th weekend. It was 90+ degrees outside, so my plan for wearing cute dresses the whole time turned into wearing my skinny jeans the whole time due to the dreaded chub rub, which has mainly been a non-issue since moving out of the humidity of the southern US. But, on really hot days, I still need something keeping my thighs apart.

As an aside, I was thinking about getting these bloomers from Roamans. Does anyone have any experience with them?

this is embarassing, but i'm hoping somebody here can help!

we've talked about chub rub many times -- and i'm familiar with that as a (sometimes painful) red rash on inner thighs...but does anyone (else) get other symptoms?  Like large painful sorta blister-things?  i tend to get them in the fold between my (under)belly and my legs....very sore.  i've found in the past that wearing spanx-type garments helps because it holds the belly away from the legs, so the thingies don't develop.  But i HATE spanx and similar garments....so i'm wondering:

(1)  does anyone else get these?
(2)  what strategies do you use to avoid them or to treat them?
(3)  what undies and clothing would you recommend to deal with them?

i'm 5'6", 330lbs with a rack o doom and a belly o doom and no butt to speak of.....any help would be muchly appreciated!

ETA:  I just want to say thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU!!  For all the information and advice.  And just for the validation that other people get this too.  It's funny, I usually think of myself as refusing to be shamed about my body, demanding health care etc....but I confess, I cancelled a doctor's appt on Monday b/c i was too humiliated to ask my doctor about these lesions/boils....now i not only have some ideas for dealing with 'em but feel way more comfortable going to the doctor knowing that i'm not alone, other people get these.  so again, thank you all!!!

Long-legged undies
[info]rhonwyyn
So, I've been thinking about this for a while and finally got my act together to ask.  I wear a garment under my skirts to prevent chafing, but the double-layer of the garment added to my undies gets rather hot. Since I only have one garment - and they're expensive - I rewear it, thus I can't skip the undies.

My husband wears boxer-briefs, which I buy four for $9.99. I'm really tempted to buy some for myself. However, I weigh around 350 lbs, 5'6" tall, and have a large double-belly/pouch. Do you think I'll be able to find boxer-briefs that will fit around me, and if so, will they actually FIT, or will they gap at weird places and be too tight at others?

New cream for chub rub, just sharing

Recently there were some posts about the retro fashions (and beauty products) available from Vermont Country Store. In the end the decision was they have some interesting stuff but their shipping costs are sky high and since they've been a mail order business for so long that isn't likely to change. However I'd just like to point this out which I saw in the catalog yesterday:
http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/browse/Home/Apothecary/Body-Care/Moisturize-Protect/Anti-Chafing-Cream/D/30100/P/1:100:1000:10010:100030/I/f15053?evar3=SEARCH

Lady Fair (nice name huh?) anti-chafing cream. I haven't used it or anything and it's probably new since I haven't seen it in previous catalogs. Yes it is quite expensive, the tube is ten dollars and with their shipping charges you may as well purchase some hair rollers, setting lotion, corn shavers, and a bottle of Coty Emeraude perfume. I've used deodorant and body glide and neither worked for me. Luvees and bloomers worked best for me so far but the Luvees that just go around the thigh fall off kind of easily and the bloomers can be a too hot extra layer on a hot nasty day.

The Advice?

I love wearing dresses and skirts, my problem is I have pretty hefty thighs and they sweat, and rub. I end up with really bad, painful rashes.
I was wondering if any of you ladies could tell me if this is a problem for you and what you do to keep the chafing from happening.

I have tried baby powder, but that doesnt seem to do the trick :(

low rise tights and bike shorts?
new
[info]goldbug
Hi fatshionistas!

I've seen a few posts here very recently about chub rub situations, and I'm wondering if y'all can help me find what I'm looking for.  I am looking for tights (to wear with my skirts in the winter) and bike shorts/boxer briefs/bloomers/etc to wear with my skirts in the summer.

So, there are a lot of options out there, but I haven't been able to find anything LOW RISE.  Well, I did find Hue brand hipster tights.  Their largest straight size, size 3, claims to fit heights 5'2 to 6'0, 165 to 200 pounds.  I'm 5'6 and 180, so I figured they'd be fine.  Wrong!  They are so, so, comically small.  I would have thought that they were missized if I hadn't tried the size 2 also.

Are there any low-rise options to be found?  Are there any ways in which I could modify higher-rise products to fit me?  I don't have a sewing machine, but I do have a tailor.  :)

Seeking chub-rub cure for wedding day - Canadian
dorrie
[info]afore_mentioned
Hello Fatshionistas,

I am a lower-end-of-the-spectrum inbetweenie (size 12-14), but, along with many others, both fat and not-fat, I deal with chub-rub issues, particularly when I wear skirts in hot weather. I'm getting married this August and I'm seeking something that will eliminate the problem when I'm wearing my (white) wedding dress, and will last all day. I've found that goops and glides tend to sweat off in the heat, and since my wedding is in Toronto in late August, we could be talking really hot weather (we could also be talking cool weather – this is Canada).

My ideal solution would be nude- or white-coloured, thin, breathable bike shorts or similar. I'd also like them to have a non-obvious waistband, in order to avoid digging into my hips and creating a visible contour that is not part of my body shape. :) Because I'm in Canada, I really prefer something sold in Canada, but I will consider buying from the US if the store will ship to me. Both straight-sizes and plus-sizes are options.

Alternatively, if you have any other great ideas, please let me have 'em! Do any brands make boxer-briefs that might work?

Thanks for any tips!

ETA: Thank you, thank you for so many tips! I have ordered some Luvees because they look amazing, and I'm going to try some of the other options (using anti-perspirant, etc. – doesn't cost to try). I'll let you know how it works out. :)

Erm this is really embarassing, but what's the best way to actually treat it? I've tried paw paw ointment, shea butter and talcum powder and it's just not healing...

Do you get chub rub with nylons?
LongHair
[info]danaeris
If the answer is yes, this post is aimed at you.

I'm wondering if any people who DO get chub rub with nylons have tried Spanx, or any of the other high-waisted biker short body shaping products out there. If so, did it prevent the chub rub, or was it like the nylons all over again?

Thank you!

Skin tags
[info]purple_mctacky
Does anyone else get skin tags? Cut for TMI ) Any ideas for getting rid of them?

ETA: Thanks! :) You peoples are such a good resource. I am glad to know I am not alone. I guess I will look for a dermatologist.

Spanx sizing
all my important nothings
[info]mrsmosley
Hi everyone, newbie here. I've been thinking about posting for ages but I've been a little shy. But now I have a question I really need to ask so I'm being forced out in to the open! :)

I've been searching for solutions for chub rub, and based on recs I've seen around here, I ordered a pair of Spanx Power Panties. I'm 5'3" and 230 lbs, and that landed me squarely in size E on the little table, so that's what I ordered. They arrived today, and I can't get the darn things past my knees.

So, questions: Has anybody else had this experience? Am I supposed to stretch them in some way? Any ideas on what size I should re-order?

Thanks for the help!

Hello ladies darlings!

This is my first post, and I hope the collective knowledge of you lovely ladies fatshionistas will guide me in the right direction.

I've looked through the tags and memories regarding the dreaded "chub rub" but haven't exactly found what I'm looking for.  But it is that season again, where warmth+humidity+chafing=not fun things.

So what I'm looking for is actual chub rub cures.  I've seen some extremely helpful posts on preventative measures, but not much on actually curing what ails us.  And sometimes, it happens to me while wearing regular pants, or things that fit properly and all that - it's not just a skirt-wearing thing, but it does make my skirt-wearing fun a little less fun - sad.  So, on to cures.  As in, once you already have some significant damage going on down there, what do you do to treat it?  (Cause you know, I'm not asking because it's happened to me really really recently, like, today, no, not at all!  ;-) )

A fellow fatshionista recommended to me diaper rash cream (with zinc oxide), so I pretty much immediately winced and waddled my way down to CVS to pick some up.  It seems to be soothing enough right now (plus I mixed in a little Neosporin, just for an extra kick, and covered it with gauze to prevent even more rubbage while I'm laying around the house tonight), but I'm just wondering what everyone else uses or does to care for that tender inner-thigh flesh.

Thoughts?

EDIT:  I apologize for my lack of gender-neutrality.  It was late, I was exhausted, and in some significant pain, and am still rather "new" to said idea.  Please to be forgiving?  I promise to be better in the future.  :-)

Thanks for all the wonderful advice thus far!  :-D

I want to talk chub-rub. Tis' summer (meh, as good as here in the afternoons at least) and the time of skirts (or if you are me all year long is the time of skirts because I love the free feeling of a skirt and wear trousers maybe twice a year) for most of us.

I know some people don bicycle shorts but to me that seems awful. From two standpoints really, the first one being it's hot and I want air to swish all around me - hence wearing a skirt, the second issue is that if the skirt isn't of a heavy fabric (e.g. linen) the breeze will swish it up (as happens to me constantly) and everyone would see that you are wearing shorts; this would embarrass me greatly.

Now in our family we have used Drapolene cream for over 20years (close to 30, I believe) and I have found no other cream better. I wore tights yesterday and it was so hot and sweaty that coupled with rubbing resulted in much OUCH, that evening I applied (after eventually locating it one one of the many moving boxes still around heh) it and this morning when I woke up I was grand. Make that 10m after application the stinging was gone. Vanished.

The other good thing about it is it is SUPER cheap. In the UK you can get it from Boots (or any other chemist).

Cotton blend bike shorts

I noticed somebody posted about sports bras, which I intend to investigate further.

However, I also need some basic bike shorts. Cotton blend a MUST. I'd prefer basic colors like black/grey. In the past, I've bought the biggest size from Marika, but would like to know if there is anything else out there.

Chub Rub and body glide.
[info]thoughtracer
I know all of you have commented on this before, and I dutifully read the thread on chub rub, but I have one question.

Is Body Glide something you have to re-apply a gazillion times a day? Or, like, if I apply it once in the morning, will I be delightfully chafe free all day long? I am a size 22-24 and have lots of loose skin on my inner thigs, so there is major rubbage there.

Chub rub for boobs and accessory help

[info]ohsochewy
Yep, just what the title says. Is that what I have? All of a sudden the very inner top portion of my cleavage is getting chafed. I don't know why this suddenly started just now, as I've had a huge rack for as long as I can remember.

Has anyone else run into this, and does anything help? I can't very well separate them and wear something like bike shorts like you can with thigh chub rub... for now I put some Bodyglide on there and hope it will help.

Also, I have a reunion coming up soon and wonder what I can do for accessories. I plan to go simple but cute, with a pair of dark jeans, some killer cowboy boots and a charcoal colored thin turtleneck sweater, but other than some cute earrings I have no idea what to use to pep it up. Do all necklaces look stupid on the outside of turtlenecks? I would wear a corduroy jean-esque jacket on top, but I worry that it would get too hot.

Thank you!

Luvees. Anyone try these yet?

Luvees Coveralls offer comfort and protection from
inner thigh rub on bare legs. The silky stretch material stays
in place and allows freedom of movement on the
hottest of days. Now you can wear skirts and dresses
all year long, without skin-on-skin thigh rub!

It's not about the size of a woman,
it's about the shape of a woman.

Having not yet tried Spanx, I just saw an ad for these on the curvy chick community and I was curious...what do the Fatshionistas think?

Biker Shorts: Cottony Good Quality Fair Wage Goodness!
fat lady sings
[info]kmd
Folks, if you are looking for biker shorts that:

1. fit well
2. last forever
3. are mostly cotton
AND
4. made by people paid a living wage

then look no farther than:

http://www.decentexposures.com

Yes, they are more expensive than Lane Bryant, yes they are more expensive than Junonia (but not by as much.) But. I have had the same pair for over EIGHT years, chub rubbing my way through EIGHT summers, and they are still holding up perfectly fine. And I am a size 28, so this ain't no light chub rubbing.

And did I mention fairly paid workers? The price is reasonable for the quality, the work involved, the fanTAStic customer service (UNlike Junonia), and the unbelievably comfy cotton. I'll stop gushing now.
