treatment for chafing?
Erm this is really embarassing, but what's the best way to actually treat it? I've tried paw paw ointment, shea butter and talcum powder and it's just not healing...

Do you get chub rub with nylons?
If the answer is yes, this post is aimed at you.

I'm wondering if any people who DO get chub rub with nylons have tried Spanx, or any of the other high-waisted biker short body shaping products out there. If so, did it prevent the chub rub, or was it like the nylons all over again?

Thank you!

Spanx sizing
Hi everyone, newbie here. I've been thinking about posting for ages but I've been a little shy. But now I have a question I really need to ask so I'm being forced out in to the open! :)

I've been searching for solutions for chub rub, and based on recs I've seen around here, I ordered a pair of Spanx Power Panties. I'm 5'3" and 230 lbs, and that landed me squarely in size E on the little table, so that's what I ordered. They arrived today, and I can't get the darn things past my knees.

So, questions: Has anybody else had this experience? Am I supposed to stretch them in some way? Any ideas on what size I should re-order?

Thanks for the help!

Hello ladies darlings!

This is my first post, and I hope the collective knowledge of you lovely ladies fatshionistas will guide me in the right direction.

I've looked through the tags and memories regarding the dreaded "chub rub" but haven't exactly found what I'm looking for.  But it is that season again, where warmth+humidity+chafing=not fun things.

So what I'm looking for is actual chub rub cures.  I've seen some extremely helpful posts on preventative measures, but not much on actually curing what ails us.  And sometimes, it happens to me while wearing regular pants, or things that fit properly and all that - it's not just a skirt-wearing thing, but it does make my skirt-wearing fun a little less fun - sad.  So, on to cures.  As in, once you already have some significant damage going on down there, what do you do to treat it?  (Cause you know, I'm not asking because it's happened to me really really recently, like, today, no, not at all!  ;-) )

A fellow fatshionista recommended to me diaper rash cream (with zinc oxide), so I pretty much immediately winced and waddled my way down to CVS to pick some up.  It seems to be soothing enough right now (plus I mixed in a little Neosporin, just for an extra kick, and covered it with gauze to prevent even more rubbage while I'm laying around the house tonight), but I'm just wondering what everyone else uses or does to care for that tender inner-thigh flesh.

Thoughts?

EDIT:  I apologize for my lack of gender-neutrality.  It was late, I was exhausted, and in some significant pain, and am still rather "new" to said idea.  Please to be forgiving?  I promise to be better in the future.  :-)

Thanks for all the wonderful advice thus far!  :-D

I want to talk chub-rub. Tis' summer (meh, as good as here in the afternoons at least) and the time of skirts (or if you are me all year long is the time of skirts because I love the free feeling of a skirt and wear trousers maybe twice a year) for most of us.

I know some people don bicycle shorts but to me that seems awful. From two standpoints really, the first one being it's hot and I want air to swish all around me - hence wearing a skirt, the second issue is that if the skirt isn't of a heavy fabric (e.g. linen) the breeze will swish it up (as happens to me constantly) and everyone would see that you are wearing shorts; this would embarrass me greatly.

Now in our family we have used Drapolene cream for over 20years (close to 30, I believe) and I have found no other cream better. I wore tights yesterday and it was so hot and sweaty that coupled with rubbing resulted in much OUCH, that evening I applied (after eventually locating it one one of the many moving boxes still around heh) it and this morning when I woke up I was grand. Make that 10m after application the stinging was gone. Vanished.

The other good thing about it is it is SUPER cheap. In the UK you can get it from Boots (or any other chemist).

Cotton blend bike shorts
I noticed somebody posted about sports bras, which I intend to investigate further.

However, I also need some basic bike shorts. Cotton blend a MUST. I'd prefer basic colors like black/grey. In the past, I've bought the biggest size from Marika, but would like to know if there is anything else out there.

Chub Rub and body glide.
I know all of you have commented on this before, and I dutifully read the thread on chub rub, but I have one question.

Is Body Glide something you have to re-apply a gazillion times a day? Or, like, if I apply it once in the morning, will I be delightfully chafe free all day long? I am a size 22-24 and have lots of loose skin on my inner thigs, so there is major rubbage there.

Chub rub for boobs and accessory help
Yep, just what the title says. Is that what I have? All of a sudden the very inner top portion of my cleavage is getting chafed. I don't know why this suddenly started just now, as I've had a huge rack for as long as I can remember.

Has anyone else run into this, and does anything help? I can't very well separate them and wear something like bike shorts like you can with thigh chub rub... for now I put some Bodyglide on there and hope it will help.

Also, I have a reunion coming up soon and wonder what I can do for accessories. I plan to go simple but cute, with a pair of dark jeans, some killer cowboy boots and a charcoal colored thin turtleneck sweater, but other than some cute earrings I have no idea what to use to pep it up. Do all necklaces look stupid on the outside of turtlenecks? I would wear a corduroy jean-esque jacket on top, but I worry that it would get too hot.

Thank you!

all year long, without skin-on-skin thigh rub!

It's not about the size of a woman,
it's about the shape of a woman.

Having not yet tried Spanx, I just saw an ad for these on the curvy chick community and I was curious...what do the Fatshionistas think?

Biker Shorts: Cottony Good Quality Fair Wage Goodness!
Folks, if you are looking for biker shorts that:

1. fit well
2. last forever
3. are mostly cotton
AND
4. made by people paid a living wage

then look no farther than:

http://www.decentexposures.com

Yes, they are more expensive than Lane Bryant, yes they are more expensive than Junonia (but not by as much.) But. I have had the same pair for over EIGHT years, chub rubbing my way through EIGHT summers, and they are still holding up perfectly fine. And I am a size 28, so this ain't no light chub rubbing.

And did I mention fairly paid workers? The price is reasonable for the quality, the work involved, the fanTAStic customer service (UNlike Junonia), and the unbelievably comfy cotton. I'll stop gushing now.

Review: The Avenue's Seamless Bike Short
Glory, glory, hallelujah, ya'll. [info]theoryofgravity turned me on to the seamless bike short (can't get a link to work to The Avenue's site - do a search for "seamless bike short" and it is the "seamless bike short panty) from The Avenue and, I swear, it has changed my summer wardrobe single-pantedly.

Okay, that was SUCH a bad joke but I couldn't resist.

Seriously, though, I am in love. These are a nylon/spandex blend and so won't work for the natural fibers only crowd, but if you can handle synthetics I cannot speak highly enough of these. The fabric is mad soft and silky. There really is no seam.

And best of all, they do not squish, not even a little bit. I ordered a pair in a 30/32 and they are way too large. I bought the 26/28 instore and might as well be wearing nothing at all, that is how comfy they are. I could probably wear the 22/24 equally as comfortably, but I'm not that bothered. (I generally wear a 24-28 and am 5'4", just FYI.)

They DO come almost all the way to the knee. So when I want to wear my obnoxiously short skirts, I will have to hike them up or find other hosiery solutions.

Given that I have worn a skirt without opaque tights approximately once in the past ten years, this is a HUGE deal to me. On Saturday I was able to run around town in one of my ridiculous Blue Plate dresses without worrying about chub rub (it is HOT here, now). Now I just need some more summer sandals....

Sometimes you find a really great gynecologist, and you get to have really interesting conversations while you're otherwise indisposed. This entry isn't about my appointment in question but something she was telling me about during the fact.

You know how doctors of various fields have conventions every now and again to get the latest news in their specialization and try new products? Well it turns out that ob-gyns have assumed the responsibility for treating a great deal of other commonly female ailments not necessarily related to our insides, including the almighty chub-rub.

At the last conference, she told me, there's apparently new evidence being passed around that suggests that some discomfort related to chub-rub may not be just chafing, but in fact a fungus. The times we're most susceptible to chub-rub often feel like they're in the summer months when one is hot and sweaty. Your inner thighs are rubbed raw and if you're anything like me, you also get pretty horrible heat rash in your cleavage and under your braline.

Turns out that if it's red, bumpy, and itchy and importantly if it doesn't want to go away when you put on powder or chafing gel, you may have a fungus kind of related to jock itch (gross, I know, but interesting, right?) that hangs out in hot, moist areas where skin touches.

So she gave me this list of suggestions, some of which have been listed here in previous chub-rub posts, but you'll forgive me for repeating them, won't you?

-antiperspirant under the breasts and in cleavage, or on inner thighs (think bikini line too, or any other place where skin touches, under the stomach, etc.)

-buy some small cotton handkerchiefs, fold them over and lay them in the bottom half of the cup of your bra to absorb sweat. More bras are being made out of synthetics these days so they have trouble breathing, and this will not only help you keep cool but also will save your bras and help them last longer.

-jock itch spray or powder for cleavage, inner thighs and other problem areas to kill fungus and cool the itching and redness.

I always come from that school of thought that fears putting the product made for your armpits or male genitals anywhere not specified on the package might make it explode or something, but apparently it works. I'll give it a try myself and get back to you, but I just figured I'd share in the meantime. This is why I love having size-positive doctors that understand and actually try to help you with problems specific to your body shape, size, etc...

short shorts!
hello dolls!

i have a question for those who wear short shorts -- how short do you wear them and how do you avoid the cubrub?

old navy has ones that are 3.5" and 5" long, LB has ones that are 6.5." i would like them the shorter the better, but i don't want to be pulling them out of my crotchital area all day long!

Weird product, or miracle cure?

Noticed these thigh snuggies on Torrid's site today. They are apparently meant to slay the dreaded chubrub. They strike me as incredibly odd.

There's also this, more of the standard bike-short solution so many of us know and love.

I remain married to my comfy and breathable (and affordable) cotton/lycra bike shorts for underskirt wear, but I am curious as to whether anyone's tried these, and if they actually work. The satin patches on the inner thighs are making me giggle. And yet, they have a strange retro appeal.

Thoughts?

ETA: Because a couple folks have asked, I am currently getting my bike shorts from Newport News catalog, since Target has ceased to carry them. They're twelve bucks a pair, and if you buy two you get one free. The NN ones run a little roomy in my experience, though - I originally ordered a 3X and they fit more like a 4X. Your mileage may vary.

How to avoid the dreaded summer thigh rubbing?
Hi everyone,

I have been reading here lately and you guys are very smart about all things. I joined to ask how do you avoid your thighs rubbing together? When I wear skirts they rub and it hurts after a while. Any tips besides wearing shorts under skirts (too hot)?

A function fatshion question....
A friend of mine and I were trying to come up with ways to prevent heat rash from where her thighs rub (when she's wearing skirts or shorts).  Any suggestions?
