| I had a brief surge of fat-positive feelings going in late 2004, which inspired me to create this. I completely forgot about it because it was always so, well, propaganda-y and not the kind of thing I'd usually draw. But, I thought I'd share it with you guys just because. ( Redefine Me ) | |

| So my friend and I have decided that we are tired of getting breathless at the end of climbing to our dorms (she lives on the third floor, I on the fourth). So we've started walking places in town(which is a big step for us, considering we usually take her car everywhere). So today, we walked to Family Video(about a mile or so overall) and then stopped and ate Subway on the way back. On our way back, I was sipping my iced tea(we gave up soda, because it's not hydrating. And I rarely ever drank it). ANYWAY. POINT. YES. So walking back, this big ole pick up drives by, honks and the guys yell, "MOVE IT, FATASS." Now he was pretty heavy set himself, so my response was to promptly burst into laughter. But it also kinda pissed me off. So I came home and drew some fat positive art. ( Resultant art... )Now I feel loads better!! Lauren( Me--how I feel right now.) | |

| Hello there fatshionistas!
Does anyone on this site make plus size art of any kind? There is definitely a lack of it. I like to draw and paint plus size nudes but am saddened by the lack of plus size representation in art in general.
Does anyone want to share/post their fat-positive or fat related art? If so...how does one put text and images behind a "cut?" I have some nudes I would like to post but don't want anyone work browsing to get into trouble....

| Ever wonder if you watched too much Art Attack growing up?
I'm sick of the whinging about Double-Chins! We have them, and dammit, I'm going to love mine.

| I was going to post this a while ago, but I was very busy for a while and didn't get around to it. Anyway, here are some of the chubby fashion sketches that I was playing around with. I think that fashion sketches tend to reflect an idealized female shape. Traditionally, they're impossibly tall and thin-looking. I was wondering what a rounder, curvier, more substantial fashion sketch would look like. Anyone else have sketches to show? What do you think? (sketches below the cut) ( Read more... ) | |

| First of all, I'd like to thank the fatshionista who posted the "Phat Grrl" mix that is blaring pretty much 24/7 on my mp3 player. There's a lot on there that I never would have listened to, or even knew about, and it is seriously just awesome. Not to mention gets my booty groovin' (I'm so tempted to figure out how to bellydance to "Pasties and a G-String")
Now, then. I have checked the tags, and worked my google-fu to exhaustion. So, I bring it to you ladies; maybe the fatshionista who posted it would be kind enough to direct me again.. A while back (Before December, I know for sure) someone posted a link to a wallpaper/art of a lovely fat girl walking, and it said, "I am an assault on the cult of thinness."
I had it as my desktop wallpaper, but it got deleted... and now I can't find where I got it from. Would anyone be so kind as to help me find the site again so I can have this spiffiness on my new/old laptop?
Thanks kindly! - Tags:art, culture, raves

| I lived in France for 10 months, from 2004-2005. While I was there, I filled in for a friend who was a figure model for a local artist's class. Well, my friend is visiting me this week and we were discussing Bertrand (the artist) and how he still talks about how great it had been to have me model, because I was the only fat woman who he ever had a chance to draw. And then she said, oh! Bernard has pictures of you on his website! And they're lovely! yay! ( So here you go! (warning, large pics to show detail and Not Work Safe) )- Tags:art

| She posted her beautiful lampwork this weekend, and asked for more people to post some art. The back story on this is - Baron Dixon is an artist who has taken a lot of my self portraits, and done amazing retouches/photoshop work. He then chose one of my self portraits to create a painting, and hung it in an erotica art show. I posted a GIF image behind the cut, watch for a moment, and you can watch the progression of the painting. Depending on your work environment, this is probably not work safe in most places! ( I give you - Lethal Lingerie ) | |

| I feel like i'm updating here all the time now! anyway, I figured I would post some of my art. I am a lampworker (which means I work with glass with a torch and such). I mostly make beads and pendants, but I've made a few sculptures as well. This is a piece that I really enjoyed making and was really challenged by. I have a very small beginners torch which I have grown far out of but can't afford to upgrade. This is a very big piece for my small torch, so it was a bit difficult to maneuver and change once formed. I worked for quite a while on it and am quite happy. I made it in december, and am now away from my torch until july, so I've gotten back into jewelrymaking (which is what originally got me interested in making my own beads) So, this is my goddess! It's not the best, but I heart her. She is fat and big boobed and beautiful! also, a couple of drawings I did the other day that I kind of liked... this is a picture-heavy post, so beware! ( glass, boobs and some drawings. artistic, but possibly NWS depending on where you are )I'd love to see more fat positive art here! I know we've got quite a few artists in this bunch! | |

| Hi Fatshionistas!
I love to paint and have recently been inspired (after trips to the museum and looking in the mirror) to begin paintings of plus sized nudes. Does anyone know of any books (besides "Women En Large") or TASTEFUL websites of artistic nude photograps which feature plus sizes?
(The paintings would only be for my own practice and pleasure)
THANKS!!!! | |

| Tonight I was looking for art to inspire me to complete the sleeve on my left arm and thinking to myself "Why aren't there any plus sized mermaids? Huh? That'd rock." Then I came across these: http://hollyvision.biz/Mermaids.htmThe mermaids come in various shapes and sizes-- but for whatever reason, her other images don't. Still though, it was nice to see and share. | |

| i just opened a store on cafepress.com. my first design is a play on the common cross and skullbones, only instead of bones, i used a knife and a fork! it's geared toward foodies, cooks, chefs, bakers, and anyone who loves food. i love to eat and enjoy food, and i know there are many others out there who are passionate about cooking as well. so why not design something for us, right? ( images and link after the cut! ) | |

| We-ell it's sort of fashion related. I've noticed a few people on here complaining about how they can't find pixel dolls to suit their bodyshape, and those that exist don't come in anything other than WASP. So I thought I'd make some. ( here be naked pixels with boobies* ) | |

| Dear Friends,
I am in the process of developing a project for Philadelphia Fringe Festival called Whores, Pigeons and Other Things of Beauty. Some of you are already part of this project, or have heard of its development over the last months. For those of you who don't know, this project will comprise of two collaborative, mixed media performances based on two short plays that I've written called "Devices" and "Pigeon Play."
This production will take place on September 3rd, 2005 at 4pm and 9pm, at the Community Education Center, 3500 Lancaster Ave, Philadelphia, PA. One way to show support for this project is to attend this performance and see our hard work first hand, and I sincerely hope that you do. Another is to consider making a donation so that we have the funds to get the project off the ground. As emerging artists, our access to corporate and foundation support is limited, and we count on what our friends and loved ones can give.
Here's a little bit of information about the works being presented:
"Devices" got its first run last February/March as part of the national Sex Worker's Art Show Tour, and this will be its Philadelphia premiere. The piece addresses the complex dynamics of race, desire, bodies and work with a stark audio collage (by M.C. Hyde), lush black and white photography (by Christina Molieri), and a solo stage performance by yours truly. For those of you who missed it on the road, I'd love for you to see it here in Philadelphia.
"Pigeon Play" is at an earlier stage of development, and will continue to evolve over the next year. This surrealistic satire about sibling rivalry, childhood dreams, gender construction and a gigantic mythic pigeon involves no fewer then three musicians, two installation artists, five actors, one playwright, two videographers and a partridge in a pear tree. Over the next year we will have 2-3 more staged readings and a full production in the fall of 2006 which will include live music, sound and video installations, and much more.
It is not an accident that the cast and crew of these projects are queers, people of color, women, and artists with great convictions for social change. Why? Because we all believe deeply in the searing and dynamic art that comes from our culture and experiences, and we support one another's efforts to be visable, viable, and present.
Over the next few months we will be running several fundraisers to maintain our continuing work on Pigeon Play, including a dance party, a pigeon themed dinner party, and a silent auction of original art from members of our cast and crew. Right now, we could really use your support in making this production a success. This project is being supported by the Philadelphia Dramatists Center and staged at the Community Education Center (CEC), two organizations dedicated to new work by emerging artists. Part of your contribution will go towards helping these organizations continue to support the arts in Philadelphia.
-A $15 contribution gives us one full rehearsal in the space at the CEC.
-A $50 contribution pays for 1/2 of our listing in the Philadelphia Fringe Festival guide.
-A $200 contribution pays for set construction materials.
-A $500 contribution will allow us to give small stipends to the artists
-If you're a business owner (or know of any who like supporting the arts!), you can also purchase advertising space in our program for $50 per half page.
-Any contribution of $5 or above will act as an advance ticket to the show, and any contribution $20 or above will also get you copies of ‘zines and artwork by members of the cast and crew. I'd also be thrilled to speak with any of your further about what we're doing. Feel free to drop me a line or call me at 215-776-5792.
If you'd like to contribute, please make checks payable to Naima Lowe and send them to:
5004 Penn St, Apt A3, Philadelphia, PA 19124
If you'd like to contribute via PayPal, drop me an email with the amount that you’d like to contribute and I’ll send you an invoice.
If you'd like to stuff cash in my pockets the next time you see me, please feel free to do so.
Very Best
Naima Lowe

| My fabulous sewing teacher* Helena Keeffe forwarded this information on an amazing performance art piece happening in Toronto in early August. The artist Cindy Baker, a self-identified fat woman, is asking the audience to design a piece of clothing or an outfit for her, to be used in a line of clothing. From her artist's statement: "I'm asking, for at least a short period of time, for people to think REALLY HARD about someone else's body, regardless of size, about that body in relation to their own and in relation to fashion, which is, after all, a visual translation of society's rules or standards about bodies." The whole artist statement is incredibly interesting and provocative. How I wish I were in Toronto to see this! Are there any Fationistas (perhaps of the Canuck persuasion) that are able to go and report back to us? We need to document this! | Fado and the Drake present FASHION PLATE Cindy Baker (Assistance provided by Megan Morman from LadyLady Helping Services) July 22 - August 4, 2005: public interactions, various times July 27, 6 pm: Artist Talk with Cindy Baker in the Drake Lounge August 4, 6 pm: "Clothing launch" and reception in the Drake Lounge @ The Drake (1150 Queen St. W., Toronto) info: (416) 822-3219, info@performanceart.ca or visit www.performanceart.ca From July 22 to August 4, 2005, Saskatoon artist Cindy Baker invites you to get designing and turn her into a Fashion Plate. Co-sponsored by Fado Performance Inc. and the Drake, this two-week interactive performance is the second installment in Fado's IDea series. For Fashion Plate, Cindy Baker will set up a sewing machine and various fabrics and pattern samples at one of Toronto's hottest new cultural venues, the Drake. Audience members can drop in daily to meet with Baker and design an item of clothing - or perhaps an entire outfit - for her. Visitors are asked to take the process as far as cutting out the fabric, and then Baker (or her assistant) will finish the sewing job, with the results to be shown at a clothing launch on August 4. For Baker, this process is about asking audience members to think "…about a large woman's body, about someone else's body, regardless of size, about that body in relation to their own and in relation to fashion, (a visual translation of society's rules or standards about bodies)…." "One of my interests with this project is in examining the dance people will do between wanting to create something that will fit (and look good) on my (relatively enormous) body, while avoiding creating something so large as to be farcical…. "This project asks the viewer to look at me not as a performance artist but as a model - they are the artist/designer, so there are many possible layers of awkwardness. "Fashion Plate is about taking categorically/traditionally/predictably disappointed expectations, culminating in nervous-viewer-meets-nervous-artist, and trying to come up with small solutions. What interests me about disappointed expectations is finding the truths hidden within: set up an unrealistic task, and map the strategies used in trying to achieve the task to reveal something real. "I usually take on these tasks to learn more about my limitations, but this project sets out to present small tasks to others who are willing - and I will share with them in return. For this to work, we must both be willing to be a bit vulnerable. "It's a negotiation; the more they share, the more I can share, and the more information changes hands, the more interesting (and perhaps wearable) the end product." ( Artist statement ) | |
