2 ootds and cardigans
1st: where do your favorite cardigans come from?

2nd: 2 ootds, yay.

Photobucket
this is from last week sometime. my first shrug, yay! the shrug is from gordman's, the tank top from ross, and i think the jeans are a pair of NY jeans from a friend.

Photobucket
this is from several months ago but i found it kicking around on my computer so i figured i'd post it. the top is from old navy and odds are the jeans are too.

i am 5'4" and around a 16/18. i have no idea what i weigh but i'd guess right around 200lbs.

Right now, my favorite cardigans are from Jen's Fashion Plus (she's an ebay store). The sizing is a little wonky, but when you get one that fits, it's like a second skin...that's how comfy it is!

I am ALWAYS on the lookout for the perfect cardigan...Usually I rely on H&M for the most part, and keep my eyes peeled at Gap and Old Navy...American Apparel has an adorable cardigan with really cool buttons in "unisex" sizing...Pretty sad that I am a size 16 on top and the M/L in unisex sizing would not even come close to fitting me...I don't know how any guy could wear it..Anyone have any sweaters from AA that are stretchy and roomy?

I wear a l/xl/xxl in tops. But all the AA cardigans I own are Unisex M. I have the Tri-blend and just some plain black one.

Target has started selling print cardigans, and I can't resist 'em. The other thing I like about Target is that it sometimes offers the same item for straight sizes and plus sizes, so I can try on more than one cut. For whatever reason, when it comes to more form-fitting items, like cardigans and tees, my body prefers the shaping of straight sizes, though I don't always fit into an XXL, the largest straight size available. If Target made just one straight size bigger than it currently does, I'm sure I'd be set, because I'd almost always be either the XX or the XXXL.

But what the hay, I already have too many cardigans anyway!

I love cardigans from American Apparel. People think it's not plus-size friendly there, but they have to check themselves. :\ A M/L fits me perfectly. Infact, I have a medium there that fits perfectly and I'm an XL normally in tops. It's because it's unisex there lol.

I don't know if it is my height or how my weight is distributed or what. I am 5'9", 44-38-44, and I got a unisex sweater there, the one that has the bright colored buttons, and it was SO small it was ridiculous. But you say you're an XL normally in tops, I'm more like a XXL I'd say....

American Apparel stuff varies alot in terms of size from garment to garment, and I think it involves a lot of trial and error. I really like the plain unisex baby rib cardis and sheer jersey skirts, but there are also plain ts that just don't work on me.

That said, every cardigan I own that isn't from AA is from Target, both their straight size stuff and the plus collections. I feel like its hard to walk in there without bumping into one. If you're into more form-fitting, H&M is a good spot too. I'm an 18/20 (and a 40DD) and do just dandy in their L's.

The Gap! I usually raid the clearance rack for them, though.

I recently purchased this cardigan from Old Navy in a few different colors. I really like it. In general, when I buy an XXL ladies' size cardi, I'm not able to button it. But the way this one is cut, I can button it if I want, although I usually prefer to leave it unbuttoned. I also have a few other cardis from ON, too...although I know ON is not a favorite among posters in this community, due to ON's screwy return policies and poor customer service.

Target, Gap, the Limited, Ann Taylor Loft.

Target might offer funkier, fun, styles. You certainly can't beat the price.

OMG, it's like this thread was made for me. I have a cardigan addiction. I think I've collected 40 of them or so. Here are my favorite places to get cardigans:
- Target, I have to agree. Their xl (in merona) or xxl in others sometimes fit. I usually skip by the junior's looking sections since their xxls are still ridiculously short and tiny.
- Old Navy (again, have to agree that they have a shitty policy towards plus size) - their straight size xl or xxl often fit. I don't button them though. I did get a 1x cardigan from there once and it buttoned, until I accidentally put it in the dryer.
- I did have 2 cardigans from american apparel, in a men's large, and they fit okay but were pretty big in the shoulders and small in the waist. I couldn't button them, and they usually fell off my shoulders due to being so big. All in all, a weird fit, and I got rid of them.

I was really surprised to find a cute cardigan at Macy's in the plus size department. I guess I never think of department stores as good places to shop, and they are usually so overpriced, but this was on clearance and is orange with gold snap buttons. I will post an ootd of it soon.

The Gap! I am a solid XXL at Old Navy and some how I fit the XL Gap cardigans really well. Maybe they are meant to be baggy, cause the two I have button without gaping and have a nice close fit. It's weird because I usually don't do well with Gap XL's, but I always have luck with the cardigans. I have one from H&M too, it doesn't button, but I actually prefer my cardigans to be a bit small if I plan on wearing them open with a dress or something. There's less fabric and it looks a bit more pulled together, I think.

What size do you wear in Old Navy? You look almost exactly my size - same kind of measurements and about the same body type. I ordered a bunch of stuff from them online and it was all ginormous o_O

The top is super cute!

Also, thanks for this thread: I need some cute cardigans. :D Mine usually come from Target (to echo half the commenters).

The off the shoulder top - I can't find it at the moment - but I'm pretty sure it's an XL. It's probably even a little TOO big on me but I still wear it on occasion.

Old Navy is REALLY hit or miss with me, and honestly, a lot of the stuff I still wear from them is stuff I've had for years. IMO they used to be a lot more consistent on sizing and quality but nowadays everything is very trial and error.

Delias (and Alloy) and Target
I just recently got http://store.delias.com/item.do?itemID=49954 (2XL in gray) and I wore it for the first time today, I got 3 compliments on it and I was kinda surprised b/c I mean its just a cardigan lol. Although I will say the photo doesn't do it justice with the detailing (contrast lining and gathering at the sleeve) its super soft too and for 8 bucks you cant beat that! I have my eye on this one http://store.delias.com/item.do?itemID=51214 and I'm waiting for it to go on sale!!

Old Navy! Lots of cardigans in lots of colors. Their tops are sized wicked inconsistently, though, so you really have to try stuff on, which is great if you can fit into the sizes in the stores, not so hot for people who need the stupid online-only plus stuff. If you're 16ish on top you can probably do some of their in-store cardis, though; I'm a 14/16 with not much of a chest, and I wear a friggin' medium in ON tops sometimes (which is... not normal, for me).

going with a lot of other people here - definitely check out Delias (there was a crazy clearance sale going on not too long ago and I snatched up about 5 different cardigans - not one was over $20!), Gap, Banana Republic, and American Apparel.
