welovecolors: the legend continues
quick re-cap:
back in September, I wrote a letter of complaint to welovecolors.com about the poor quality and fit of their plus tights they responded that they were aware of the situation and were working on it. Many of us had been burned by their sucktacular tights in the past and were--understandably--skeptical.
then, a few months later in November I got an email from Cybele at welovecolors as well as a comment on my September post that they were, in fact, working on the plus fit-- they had several samples from different suppliers & were looking for testers. I posted the call for testers here and a bunch of us were to be sent tights.
Now, I don't know how many
fatshionistas ended-up getting tights to try (there were several rounds of testing, or so i hear) but i just received my samples last week. good news! things are looking wayyyyyyy up!
for reference i am 5'3, 250 pounds, and figure 8 shaped with generous thighs & a profound derriere. my waist and hip measurements are 42 and 55 inches respectively (note: i am all ass and mininal hip). the lycra/nylon tights i tried were labeled 2x or the C/D size. the microfiber ones weren't labeled though the rep said they were a 2x in an email to me.
welovecolors sent me some samples of the new nylon/lycra plus fit (available now!) of their tights and a new as-of-yet unavailable microfiber option they are working on, to test out.
the verdict is that the new plus fit is multiple UNIVERSES better than the old scratchy, droopy fit as lamented in so many a review here on
fatshionista.
they are stretchy, sturdy and soft & the colour saturation (i was sent violet) is incredible! also, the opacity is good (for non-microfiber tights)... they don't have that plasticy saran-wrap like sheen to them that some plus tights have, for which i am incredibly grateful (and also impressed).
since i have paid more gambling on extra tall tights in departments stores only to have about 80% of them immediately run/roll and only sort of fit, i consider $15 a pretty good value, especially for something i KNOW will fit and that i will get a lot of wear out of. then, tights are kind of a wardrobe staple for me since i live in a rather arctic clime and don't get on so well with pants.
the microfiber pair they sent me (not sure if they're going with this particular brand or not... i think they are still in the testing phase) was only passable to okay. they were stretchy enough to fit and pull up to the underboob level if i so desired (i'm all about wearing my tights so they practically double as a bra... low-rise tights merrily slip off my ass--like kids on a water slide-- within seconds) but, they were kind of constricting through the thigh (i've got like 30 inch thighs, yo!) giving me that low crotch feeling. i would probably still wear them, but the opacity is not what it should be for microfiber. i might also be a bit cranky because they were footless and have a serious hate on for footless tights because i don't think they suit my super short legs.
pix or it didn't happen:
as you can see the colour saturation is nothing short of incredible!
this is taken at the end of a very long day, after about 13+ hours of wear. i feel that's an acceptable amount of looseness given that i'm short --5'3 on a big hair day--and that i wore them all day long. these fill definitely stretch to fit tall
fatshionistas!
