Hey guys! I'm new here... I thankfully found this community through some advice someone had given me on girladvice. I'll start off by saying, I've recently became accepting of my body type, after years of hating it. I have very wide hips, or as the nurse at the hospital said when I was giving birth to my daughter, "birthing hips". I recently purchased about $100 dollars worth of shirts from Goody's, just to find out they don't fit. I'm very very frustrated at the selection of women's plus size clothing thats available. I'm so tired of wearing mens shirts, and I would love to be able to wear things that make me feel good about myself. I was wondering if you guys would mind helping me?
I'm not trying to be offensive here, I'd like to state that first. I read through some of the previous posts and noticed people can get on some pretty heated discussions.
Anyway, I'm small up top, but bigger at the bottom. A regular plus size shirt fits me PERFECT on the bottom, but it engorges me at the top half. My niece gave me a few shirts as well, but they obviously don't fit because shes bigger busted than I. Is there any tips for measuring your size to figure out what size shirt you would wear? I have social anxiety, so trying them on in stores is a bit of a problem for me. I've asked on Yahoo Answers, girl advice, several other places... and not many people gave me any help for trying to figure out measurements. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. =)

Fat Beds? HELP!
This is not a sales post, nor is it fashion-related...So Mods, if this bears deleting/not letting through, I will totally understand, but I don't know where else to post my query!
Last night a most embarrassing thing occurred: My fat boyfriend and my fat self accidentally cracked my apparently not fat-friendly boxspring. The bed frame I had sucked (No middle support beam, WTF?!?!) and I honestly slept better with the boxspring and mattress flat on the floor than I had when it was on the frame! The SUPPORT! Wonderful!
But keeping the bed right on the floor seems a little shabby, so I'm trying to find a new, supportive bed frame. I've been looking at IKEA (Because I am lacking in funds) and some of their stuff seems pretty cool....
My question is: Do any of you have IKEA beds? Are they sturdy enough? Any models I should avoid/any that you would recommend? Alternatives to IKEA that are also fairly cheap are definitely encouraged! I've tried searching for reviews, but apparently my Google-fu is not as good as I thought! And I'm now also kind of convinced that our fat-power is too great for anything without bed slats!
Help!?

Cotton blend bike shorts
I noticed somebody posted about sports bras, which I intend to investigate further.
However, I also need some basic bike shorts. Cotton blend a MUST. I'd prefer basic colors like black/grey. In the past, I've bought the biggest size from Marika, but would like to know if there is anything else out there.

Shrugs?
Help me oh knowledgable fatshionistas!
I got a really cute sundress that actually fits me (and found it on an emergency OMG what am i gonna WEAR shopping trip an hour before i had to leave!) but:
1) it has no sleeves and i don't like going sleeveless
2) my bra shows very VERY obviously on the sides.
Of course i saw shrugs of every color, material etc known to man until i actually wanted one!
the dress is a slightly lighter than navy blue and white and i would prefer a blue to coordinate but will take white if you can show me a great deal on one.
so a dark blue or white, lightweight, preferably short sleeved, but 3/4 would be ok, under 20.00 shrug. has anyone seen one recently?
Thanks!

Metallic Gold Tops
I have been looking for a bikini or tank top that will fit my 2x upper body in metallic, shiny gold.
I have big plans to rock something like this under a low cut shirt for the M.I.A. show I'm going to next week.
I haven't been able to find anything like this in a "plus size". Does anyone have any suggestions where I could get something like this?
Thanks!

Pin Up Girl Clothing + plus size vintage repro sources
Hey does anyone know what's up with Pin Up Girl Clothing?
I've tried to call and email and haven't gotten any response. Their voice mail box is full.
Also besides PUG clothing, Stop Staring + Mode Merr can you think of any companies that are doing Vintage Repro designs that are in plus sizes. I'd love ones that do ACTUAL plus sizes, rather than this size 3x = size 18 kinda stuff... tell me who I'm missing out on.
And can anyone recommend any good thrift stores in Los Angeles or it's surrounding areas.
I'm going to be in town for a few days next week.
thanks!

B&lu McCall
I see this dress and would love it. I am fairly broke. I remember someone posting an ebay seller that sold a lot of B&lu dresses for less. Does anyone know what that company is?
Also, do you think this dress would flatter my apple shaped body? (including my very pronounced almost pregnant looking belly?)

thank you! :)

Desperately pleading for help!
This is my first time posting to this community, so hi there! :) I've been lurking on and off for months, but I recently decided to join you all instead of just hiding in the shadows.
So I've had these tops sitting in a bag in my room for weeks. Brand new, I haven't even taken the tags off. Why, you ask? Simple - I don't know if I should even keep them, let alone actually wear them.
See, when I was younger it was drilled into my head that I was a "fashion don't." So I did what any self-respecting fat girl would do. I started to hide in my clothes. I started buying clothes that were easily 3-6 times bigger than I actually should be wearing. And for years I dressed that way, hiding in my clothes and most likely looking sloppy while I was at it. But I had been so brainwashed into believing that I could never be fashionable simply because I'm fat that I had honestly just given up on it.
But recently (before I even heard of you all here), I decided that I couldn't just hide in my clothes anymore. For one thing, it's just plain stupid. Why should I hide in my clothes. For another, I was excited to find a store that not only sold clothes in my size (which is difficult out here), but they were fashionable... and cheap!
So I come to you Fatshionistas seeking advice. Because I've just hid in my clothes for so long (we're talking like 20 years here), I simply don't know what looks good on me and what doesn't. Add to that the fact that the only mirror in the house only shows me from about the cleavage up, and I'm absolutely clueless about these things.
The first two tops are very similar.
First, there's the blue top:

and a side view:

then I got a purple top that's a clone of the blue one:

and again, a side view:

and lastly, there's this strange looking number:

again with the side view:

What do you ladies think? Should I keep them? Wear them? Take them back? I'm really at a loss here as to what to think. But even though I got them on clearance (only £3 a piece!!), I could take them back, as they don't seem to have a "clearance sales are final" policy.
And just for the heck of it - and because I was already wearing it when I got the camera out - I decided to take a pic of this outfit as well:

It's from the same store I bought the undecided tops from, but I bought it months ago. And my 13 year old certainly seems to like it. Every time I walk into the room with it on, she looks me up and down and then gives me a great big grin. (She's autistic and non-verbal, so a great big grin is a great big communication from her that she likes something.) My friend May says she doesn't like it on me, but Little Miss Happy Pants (that's what I call my 13 year old) certainly seems to like it, so :-p on her!
