Oh my God. How excited am I? According to several online sources, including IMDb, Michael will be playing the lead role of Stephen Wrayford in a new film adaptation of the novel Birdsong, by Sebastian Faulks.
The story focuses on Stephen's experiences in the trenches during World War I, where he is haunted by the memories of his passionate but doomed love affair with Isabelle Azaire, the wife of a French textile baron. In terms of literary pedigree, its probably up there with the likes of Atonement, and I think this adaptation has the potential to be just as good. Michael's casting of Stephen is, IMO, absolutely spot on, and according to some of the internet articles I've read the script is top notch. Filming is currently scheduled to begin in August.
At the moment Paddy Considine and Brian Cox are the only others listed in the cast....no word yet about who will play Isabelle. My hopes will be pinned on Marion Cotillard, although I've also seen Eva Green's name mentioned. Either of them would be absolutely fine with me *bouncebounce*

Great news for Michael - he's been shortlisted for the BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award! Unlike the main awards this is decided by a public vote, so spread the word!

Details are at the website - check out Michael's nomination page HERE. Previous encumbents include Eva Green, James McAvoy, and Shia LaBeouf - lets see if we can't place the Fass man amongst that illustrious company!
In MFO related news, Michael's birthday charity campaign has kicked off, and the nominated charity this year is the Barretstown Hole in the Wall camp, founded by the late Paul Newman and located near the Wicklow Mountains National Park in Ireland. Specially designed to accommodate seriously ill children and their families, the emphasis is on 'serious fun', and helping to undo the emotional damage of dealing with a life threatening illness.

For details on how to donate and to find out about some of the great prizes that are on offer as an incentive, check out THIS thread on the MFO Fassinator Forum.
No donation is too small and all contributions are greatly appreciated! It really is a worthy cause, more information about the wonderful work they do can be found HERE. And of course do not hesitate to contact either myself or any of the lovely MFO crew if there are any problems!

Hello all, I'm new. I was pleased to discover this community, it seems fun. So a bit of Fassbender related info in connection to my fandom. (fandom? is that a word? lol) I first saw him in the creepy BBC sherlock holmes. It really freaked me out. Then I saw him in Hex, and have been a fan ever since. Azazeal is such a great character, and I think he played it with subtlety. incidentally, do any of you like Melmoth the Wanderer?? (a Gothic novel, the main character has much in common with Azazeal.) I so wish someone would do a film version of that book, just because Fassbender would be perfect for the main character.
also I want to gush a bit about wuthering heights: I love that book and love the ralph fiennes/juliette binoche version. I think mr. fassbender will play the part well, I'm curious to see how he interprets it. I hear sienna miller is maybe going to play cathy?? I don't understand casting directors sometimes. that just seems bizarre. but I would rather see her play the part than natalie portman. I think -sort of-keira knightley could be good. I can't think of any other actress who would be good for it. what do you guys think??
p.s. Here's a michael fassbender photo for you guys: :)
I can't wait to see this film, it seems like it will be lovely.

Congratulations are in order, for Michael has just been signed to portray Heathcliff in a new film adaptation of Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights.
From the Daily Mail
Maybury had already screen-tested Fassbender and was knocked out by the power of his acting. The actor's portrayal of IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands was being shown last night at the Cannes Film Festival.
Robert Bernstein, from Ecosse, told me: "Michael's our Heathcliff. He has the raw quality we were looking for. He's the right actor for the role, and he has a sense of star quality about him."
Yeah baby!
Oh, this is a very exciting time. The buzz being generated by his performance in Hunger is considerable. To say the least. And now this! Suffice to say, I think he's perfect for the part. Go Michael!

Mystery Science Theater's Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett have just released their lastest RiffTrax, 300!
A small band of brave men struggle against enormous odds, battling a superior force, and though ultimately they are defeated their sacrifice becomes a source of inspiration and hope that rings out like a clarion call through the pages of history. But enough about the Mighty Ducks.
