Foxy Lady - Need Anatomy Check
This is a painting I want to work on for a calendar project I'm doing. This character is a female werefox, obviously in her foxen form at the moment. This pose is rather boring, and somewhat stiff, but I've got it stuck in my head and I thought I'd make a quick painting of it for the calendar anyway. (For August, it's a nice boring month).

In any case, I need to tell you a little bit about this character. #1 she's very skinny, like she looks like she's starving (Very little insulation there). At the same time she's got some pretty good muscles on her. Don't ask me how that works exactly. Her build is very similar to mine. So I sort of use myself as a guide. Unfortunately I can't see my back and I'm sure not going to ask my roomie to take a pic of me naked. Some extra info: She's a "Raekartan grey fox" which is a species similar to our grey fox from a world I developed for my comic, but she does have some differences. She also is what is called a "Kaetif" not just an anthro, so she has her own evolutionary traits that normal foxes would not have. For example, her nose and ears are larger than what a grey fox should have as far as proportions go. I do this for evolutionary reasons, heat loss and better breathing mostly. She also has a very long tail, which you can kinda see in the picture, but I wanted to make sure I got the core anatomy right before I added in the other stuff.

Other notes: She will be wearing clothes, but I want to make sure the underlying anatomy is right before I add them. She also has humanlike hair. The scene, I want to have her stretching on the beach at "suns set," as her world has two suns. I haven't thought much about the BG other than that, so suggestions would be appreciated.

Overall, I'd like an anatomy check. I've been staring at it so long that it looks right to me, but I want a second opinion. I know the pose is stale, but I'd like to keep it that way. I've also tried flipping it horizontally but that didn't do me much good other than the childish entertainment of watching her "dance" on the screen. :)

So have at it.

Um, in terms of foxlike features, maybe have slightly bigger ears, ever so slightly, and I think the muzzle should be more pointed. It's shape seems a bit more wolfish there. I think it needs to be more pointed at the nose and wider by the eyes.

Otherwise, I think everything else looks perfect! That's the kinda anatomy I strive for when I go for realistic anthro canine forms. o.o

Actually I mentioned in the text why I do her nose the way I do. Proportional foxen noses are way too small for something her size. Also her ears are double the size they should be for a fox, here's a ref to show:

**re-reads** Eep! Sorry. I don't know how I missed that with the nose. I must have read that part too fast.

But, wait, with the ears, I think you're just looking at the black fur. The ears are actually bigger. You can barely tell in the photo, but there's a line that continues towards the eye about halfway. So, the ear is actually half orange and half black fur.

Yeah I know, I'm not talking about just the black. If you'll notice, the ear is about as long as the distance between where the ear starts, and the eye. And don't forget that they're reds. Lore's a grey.

Here's about the best ref I can find for a grey with it's ears back:

Hmm, okay. For some reason I wanted to believe they were about the same size as a red fox's, but they do appear to be smaller after all.

Well, it all looks good then. I'd like to add that the legs are done exceptionally well. I love the muscle structure and how you drew the digitigrade legs. I think, overall, this looks fantasic. You know, I still reference your artwork form time to time for inspiration. : P

I like big ears too and I have a tendancy to make them -too big- which I really wanted to avoid for this pic. Just remember if you reference my art, I fuck up too *G*

Maybe open the hands, and give more of a "release" to the figure. Might help with the feel of the pic.

Looking good so far!
