About Fantards

What exactly is a fantard, you may ask? "Fantard" is a term that we like to use for the annoying, amazingly braindead fans that some artists and authors seem to attract - fans that are creepy, manipulative, incredibly dense, or that are just downright obnoxious!

We're not saying that all fans are horrible, bad, stupid people. Far from it! We love our fans! It's wonderful to get attention, praise and feedback, and to make new friends! Fantards are definitely in the minority of all fans, but they ruin things for all of the great, supportive, friendly fans out there.

So, if you've had a close encounter with a fantard or like hearing about those who do, feel free to join. Share your stories! Let out your frustration! Strange e-mails, horror tales, stalker fans...you name it, we want to hear it. Nothing is more obnoxious than someone who just won't leave you alone.

Lately we've been getting some flack about fantards. Apparently some people think that the whole point of this community is to be mean and ruin people's lives. Obviously, this is *not* the case. If we really wanted to do that, we wouldn't make people leave out personal information in their posts so that people could freely attack the person in question. fantards isn't about being mean - it's about letting out frustration and sharing silliness and stupidity with your fellow artists and authors.

Due to past problems, fantards is a "friends only" community. Anyone is free to join, but you won't be able to see any new posts if you're not a member.

Guidelines for Fantards

- When sharing an e-mail, please do not display any personal information about the person in question. This means no naming of names. This is to prevent flaming and attacks on the person in question. While the person may be a fantard, they don't deserve to be attacked by a horde of people that they don't know. Personal information includes e-mail addresses, shipping addresses, phone numbers, screennames, or real names. Names may be allowed in cases of wanting to warn others, but this should only be done with the moderators' permission.

- If you feel the need to link to a picture, please link directly to the picture on your own site or on a service like Photobucket. Direct linking to a DeviantArt or Elfwood comments pages is not allowed. When linking to these pages, it's usually easy to see or find usernames or other personal information about the tard. Basically, this is for the sake of protecting the tards from harassment by third parties.

- Please remember that not every incident is necessarily worth posting here. Don't feel obligated to find something to post, just because you've joined the community. You don't need to post something in order to justify being a member. You're free to just watch the community and comment on others' posts until you have something incredibly stupid to post. If something is only moderately annoying or fantarded, your own journal is a better place to post it. Also, there's no need to make an introductory post - people will get to know you through your comments.

- Generally, a good rule of thumb for posting is that if you're unsure if something is creepy or fantarded, or if it would require a lot of explanation of why it's stupid in order for it to make sense, don't post it here. If you're unsure about something, you're always welcome to post it in our sister community, fandomtards. Also, if you have an incident that is very similar to one that was recently posted, please post your story as a reply to the other post instead of starting a new thread. This will help cut down on the volume of posts in this community, which in turn will cut down on the spamming of people's friends lists.

- There will be absolutely NO mention of "she who shall not be named." Questions regarding this person will be deleted and/or redirected. Generally if you don't already know who this person is, you'll be fine ^_^

- No flaming...PERIOD. If we find something iffy, we will delete it. Remember, no flaming includes treating your fellow community members with respect. If you have something aggressive or insulting to say, please take it to e-mail with that person. If you are caught fighting with and/or flaming other members, you will be given a warning. Anyone who accumulates three warnings will be banned from the community. Remember, this community is not about attacking your fellow fantards members; it is about annoying fans.

- Please keep your posts on topic here. If your post is determined to not be fantarded, either through complaints from other members or through the moderators' discretion, it will be deleted. Please see the list of unacceptable topics at the bottom of the page.

- Since this is a private community, please don't "leak" information to those outside of the community. Unless the person who originally posts a topic decides to share the contents of their post in their own journal or somewhere else outside of the community, please assume that they don't want that information spread around. Don't bring it up elsewhere without their permission. This is common sense and common courtesy. We have a no tolerance policy with "leakers" and they will be warned and/or banned from the community.

- On a related note, we thought that this went without saying, but please don't share a fantard story that doesn't personally involve you unless you have the other person's permission. Otherwise it could potentially create problems.

- Please use common courtesy and use the lj-cut tag when posting anything longer than a couple of paragraphs. If you don't know how, please see here. Thanks ^_^

- As a matter of common courtesy, we'd also greatly appreciate it if everyone who posts frequently could try to combine their rants into one large post rather than a series of smaller posts.

- If you think that a post violates the fantards guidelines in any way, don't attack the member who posted it - please notify a moderator. We will evaluate the situation and take any needed actions regarding it. Also, feel free to contact us with any comments, questions, or suggestions about this community. Thanks ^_^

Examples of Off-topic Posts

- Posts about tech support problems, horse stables, that guy at the donut shop, or anything not related to art or writing are not allowed. This should be your *own* art or writing, not somebody else's. Posts about encounters with people offline are not allowed unless they are specifically about artwork or writing. Remember, this is Fantards, not Everyday-Life-tards.

- Please keep in mind that this is Fantards, not Fandomtards. There are people from many different fandoms here. Not everyone here has read Harry Potter, is familiar with every anime series and video game ever made, or knows anything about the furry fandom. This is *not* the place to bitch about fandom politics, that guy who "stole" your character's markings, people who speak horrible Japanese, or the person who thought that Harry Potter should be dating such and such a character. If your post would require a lengthy explanation to make someone outside of your fandom understand why what you're trying to say is stupid, *please* don't post it. Venting about fandoms should be done in our sister community, fandomtards.

- Comments from flamers or trolls are not encouraged, unless the flame or comment is somehow bizarre, unintentionally humorous, creative, or otherwise unique from the usual run-of-the-mill "you suck" flame. This also goes for overenthusiastic "OMG I luv it!!" posts. If a comment is just insulting and/or riddled with poor spelling and grammar, please don't post it here. If you want to complain about bad spelling/bad grammar and/or AOL/kewlsie/leet speak, please do so in a community such as grammar_whores, grammarpolice or grammar_nazis Thanks ^_^

- Chatlogs, unless they are very bizarre, are better left unposted. Chatlogs about random people saying they like your artwork or that they want to be your friend with nothing else involved is not considered fantarded.

- Generic art theft posts are not allowed! Stolen artwork is unfortunately a very common occurance. If the thief is also a stalker, posing as someone, or something else that is quite extraordinary, then it's allowed. If your post about art theft doesn't fit those guidelines, please post it at art_theft.

- Complaints about other sites on the internet (i.e. art galleries, forums, RPG sites) are not encouraged unless you encounter *extreme* stupidity. This especially goes for sites where stupidity among the user base is the norm rather than the abnormal, such as Neopets and Gaia. If we allowed every post about stupidity on such sites, the community would be flooded with inane, repetitive posts about minor things.
