I'm one of the FFF'er that couldn't make it to the Mini-Con due to things like deadlines and small creatures who call me "momma." And I am intensely envious of my two crit partners (of
merry_fates fame) who are both going. And rooming together. And meeting people I wanted to meet.
Sniff.
So I thought I would ask the rest of you (heretofore known as "other unfortunates who were also left behind")
1) which author (doesn't have to be FFF) you would most like to meet
2) in what sort of location/ atmosphere would you like to meet them
3) what one question would you ask them before security dragged you away?
I think mine would be Diana Wynne Jones, someone I admire hugely for her career and her writing, and I'd like to meet her over hot cocoas, and I would ask her if she'd ever written any novels that hadn't gotten published that she wished had -- and vice versa.
How about you guys, you other unfortunates who were also left behind?

Comments
1) Tammy Pierce. She's my number one choice.
2) One-on-one, in a coffee shop or something. Someplace where I could sit and just talk to her.
3) How do you write a quieter character and still make her shine?
Other than that, I've pretty much want to meet just about everyone. :) But, then again, I'm a groupie (until I get published properly).
Dark Alley
"What's the frequency, Kenneth?"
2)Over tea and hot buttered crumpets. *g*
3)"Please would you draw Death on my shoulder so I can get her tattooed?"
2. Coffee shop, or other casual setting. Dear Gods hopefully not in one of her book settings, unless I have some dynamite powers.
3. errrr, I dont' know
2. Some place comfortable with good things to eat in it.
3. How do you keep such an upbeat attitude about being a writer? (You are an inspiration!)
*picks it back up again*
I'm blushing and really happy to be an inspiration! And boy, we'd need a really comfortable place with lots of good food to eat, because it'd be a long answer. :)
DWJ is way up there for me, too. And I'm doing a panel with her in September!!??!!! Am busily re-reading books to prepare.
The intelligent question thing is tough though...squealing is so much more fun.
I'd ask him to bring his dogs and have a picnic barbeque. Hang out and talk about other stuff. Throw a ball for the dogs.
I'd also like to meet you, Tess, and Brenna. Have a beer, play pool, steak and chips. I think you'd all out talk me. Questions aren't important.
In a Scottish pub.
I'd ask him to recommend the whisky we'd be drinking. :)
Okay, I'd totally geek out to meet Stephen King in a quiet pub, and just let him ramble on. I've enjoyed some of his work but the interviews and articles he writes are SO from the hip they absolutely crack me up. That would do it for me.
I'd want to meet Frank Herbert in a totally tricked-out writer's room with a white-board wall, with markers & post-it notes in every shade. Oh, and we'll need a bucket of cookie dough. And I'd ask him, Can you help me plot my next series? But I'd ask him that after I softened him up with questions about world-building. Even deconstructed into more or less awful movies & mini-series, Dune the book still gives me shivers.
I'd love to meet Emma Bull - total fan of hers and she's written my absolutely fav character ever - the Phouka in War for the Oaks.
Where would I meet her - not fussy!
Oh and questions - Sadly, I'm totally uncool when I meet any authors whose books I love, I'm usually so fangirly and squeeeing that my brain turns to mush and all I can do is pinch myself and mumble incoherently
2) Somewhere quiet. Maybe in front of a fire in comfy armchairs, while drinking hot chocolate :)
3) Are you mad at me for the Crunchbone lolcroc on our community? D: I never could tell what your thoughts were based on your reply.
I'd probably be too shy, awed and gobsmacked to ask them anything--over drinks would be nice.
But I'd say thank-you.
2) coffee shop
3) Umm...I doubt I'd get to a question. It would probably be reduced to a total fangirl moment with lots of squealing, pointing, jumping, and rapid "Oh my God"s. :)
