Fangirl Project: Casey McKinnon

Casey McKinnon, Executive Producer, Galacticast (http://www.galacticast.com)

Actress, producer and fangirl extraordinaire Casey McKinnon spends "almost every waking moment" making Galacticast, a free weekly science fiction comedy show for the web. She is also the co-creator of A Comicbook Orange and Kitkast.

Happy Holidays from your fellow fangirls at Fangirl Project (and our fangirl of the season, Casey McKinnon)!

We wrote you guys a special song to raise your Christmas spirits:

On the twelfth day of Christmas,

George Lucas sent to me

Dumbledore a'drumming,

Prue and Piper piping,

Legolas a-leaping,

Nine Klingons dancing,

Eight fangirls filking,

Bella Swan a-swimming,

Six Slayers slaying,

Five Elvish rings,

Four comic nerds,

a magic damage cleanse,

RPS-slash love,

and a DVD of Serenity...

We hope your (fishnet) stockings are full of lolcats, epic l00tz, cylons, tribbles, muggles, sparkling vampires, zombies, Chuck Norris and/or Rick Astley, Jawas, manflesh, polyhedral dice and all things gloriously geeky. ^_~

May the SCHWARTZ be with you,
xo

Happy Halloween from Fangirl Project!

  • Oct. 30th, 2008 at 1:48 PM
After falling off the face of the earth (for a long work hiatus), we are SO back and ready to rock Fangirl Project again!

And we're kicking off our official return with a spotlight on superfangirl Eve Gidion.

Eve, an Atlanta-based veterinarian, has turned her lifelong Star Trek obsession into an (amazing) art: she carves Trek character portraits into artificial pumpkins!

Here she is with one of her masterpieces: a pumpkin featuring the captains from each Star Trek series. (Shown: the very best captain of them all. *ahem*)

Much more news to come soon. In the meantime, we wish you all a very Happy Halloween!

Hey fan girls!

I'm trying to figure out how many conventions are run by women. Off hand, I know of WisCon and YuriCon. I run SalonCon. Do you know of others?

Me Again!

Ok, this annoucement by the MET in New York City sealed it for my plans to visit Home this summer!
Photobucket

It's great that they have included the great Thierry Mugler (one of favorite designers), cause I'm always telling [info]lil_fatty that I would love to see him design some superhero costumes...then I started thinking that this Mugler design was so made for Emma Frost "the White Queen"...

Imagine her strolling in to a movie scene in that outfit!

Hey You! Fellow Fangirls!

  • Mar. 27th, 2008 at 4:47 PM
It's been SO quiet here for a long time. What's up? Are there still people here? How goes the Fangirl book? Inquiring fangirls the world over want to know! (note this shoutout goes to everybody, not just Love and the Nautibitz!)

Vote for us!

Now on Flickr and JPGmag.com, Becky aka Kallisti and her awe-inspiring Asian ball-jointed doll collection:

Fangirl Project: Becky aka Kallisti

This portrait is currently being considered for inclusion in the upcoming "fanatic" issue of JPG Magazine -- if you have a few moments to spare, please help us up its chances: VOTE "YEAH!"

(Voting requires a quick, free sign-up process. It's a fun site, though -- totally worth it, if you ask me.)

Due to an irrational fear of jinxing myself, I'm just going to say this: good things *just might* be happening with the book! Nothing is set in stone yet, but we've got our fingers crossed, and we'll share the news as soon as we know for sure.

Thanks for your support, we appreciate it!

And speaking of support, check out this awesome site created by Whedon fans to back the writer's strike:

Happy Halloween!

This year, I went as Edward Scissorhands. Snip snip!

How about you guys? Show me your fangirl-riffic costumes! :D

Fangirl Project: Jessica Chobot

Here is one of our favorite shots from our photo session with IGN Entertainment writer/host and über fangirl, Jessica Chobot:

Fangirl Project: Jessica Chobot

Big thanks to Jessica, not only for letting us get a very intimate peek into how she expresses her fangirl tendencies, but also for posting about us over at IGN.com in her blog entry titled, "I Like to Read Manga when I Poop." We sometimes do too, Jess. ^_^
Hey fellow fans,

We returned safely from our San Francisco trip and met some really cool fangirls there. I can't wait to share more pix and news soon, when it's not so crazy around here.

Anyhow, while we were at the Oakland hotel, I recall seeing a post on [info]fangirlproject from a Portland fangirl who was chillin' with Señor Boba Fett himself! It appears that the post is either gone, or I was hallucinating at the time. Anyway, if you're not a figment of my imagination, we think you're awesome mysterious fangirl, so please contact us again!

We're planning out our Portland trip, so we hope to get a chance to meet you, and also [info]jessicadwyer. Any other Portland fangirls, give us a holler! Now's your chance!

Also, we're finally getting to our neighborly fangirls in the Los Angeles area, so expect emails from us soon in regards to scheduling in the upcoming month. Much thanks to [info]gm_avie who is in charge of booking all my shoots this October, and keeping me and [info]nautibitz relatively sane.

FangirlProject.com Redesigned!

  • Aug. 31st, 2007 at 10:29 AM
About a week ago, [info]nautibitz said to me, "We should really update FangirlProject.com before we leave for Atlanta." And I answered her with, "We can rebuild it. We have the technology!" And so we did!

We didn't get a chance to post a new fangirl pic last night, but we managed to redesign and finish the new and vastly improved website! Much thanks to my cousin [info]lil_fatty for illustrating the fangirl girl. :)

Anyhow, our car service to the airport is picking us up in 10 minutes, so I can't really wax poetically about all the new pages. But let's just say it went from 1 page to 10 pages! And you get to see one of the never-before-seen Behind The Scenes pictures with [info]beerbad on the About page. We also put up some banners for those that requested them -- but you're welcome to make your own as well. ^_^

www.fangirlproject.com

Anyway, we're looking forward to DragonCon! If you are going to be at the con and wanna be a part of the project, please try to track us down -- we'll be wandering around on Saturday and Sunday. I'll be the one that looks dazed and jetlagged, lugging a gear case around with me. (And I'll probably be fawning over Marc Singer, aka my childhood hero, The Beastmaster!) And Nauti, well, she'll probably look fab like she always does. :)

If you want to arrange a specific time and place to meet up at the con, please email us or contact us on [info]fangirlproject! People on my FLIST can send me text messages via LJ too.

Gotta run! Wish us luck!

Fangirl Project: Janelle and Liz

  • Aug. 29th, 2007 at 8:56 PM
Two more days before our departure, and I'm printing out model releases, charging all my batteries and double-checking that everything works, woohoo!

This is going to be my first time at DragonCon (yes, I'm cherry) and I wonder, do they sell any decent costumes there? I feel like I need to do my part but I don't have the time to make anything.

This one Halloween, I tied a paper plate to my head and attached a stuffed lobster on it. I was a 'table'. I don't think that's going to fly as a costume at DragonCon.

It would be kinda fun to go as Jammer from Battlestar Galactica, haha, especially since he once played Kristin Kreuk's love interest in the campy teen Canadian soap, Edgemont -- yep, I'm a tv nerd. (The kind of tv nerd that noticed that half the cast of Edgemont shows up on BSG in one episode or another. Vancouver coinky-dink, eh?)

Heck, I'll take a Gryffindor scarf at this point. Or even Spongebob's actual square pants. Or even two cinnamon rolls to make Princess Leia hair buns! Anything! I know, somewhere, out there... there's a Hamtaro furry mascot suit with my name on it. :P

Anyhow, in honor of Wednesdays being "New Comic Book Day", we've got not one but two rad comic book fans for the picture countown: Here's a picture of fangirls Janelle and Liz lugging huge stacks of comics upstairs to enjoy for the night! Sounds like a good time to me. =)

Vote Petrelli for Congress!

  • Aug. 28th, 2007 at 10:05 PM
I had planned to post a different picture today for the week's countdown, but then this earthly shadow draped the California skies and I felt a sudden current of electricity course through my body and escape from my fingertips as two massive thunderbolts! And so I turned to [info]nautibitz for help only to realize that she was made of liquid and was hovering above me like a transparent Silver Surfer!

It was then that I realized TODAY is the lunar eclipse! And it is also the release date for Heroes Season One DVD set which has the 73-minute never-before-seen premiere episode!

*cue very dramatic music*

And so, with the help of Micah and Mr. Linderman re-arranging the image files on my computer, it is my honor to present a Heroes fangirl from "the list", Petrelli Campaigner [info]fangirljen!

Here she is, a true hero to the Petrellis, wearing her campaign outfit and a Merry Marvel Marching Society badge:

Fangirl Project: Jules Is A Cylon!

  • Aug. 26th, 2007 at 10:14 PM
The countdown to DragonCon continues, and as promised, here's the next picture!

This is Jules at Secret Headquarters in Los Angeles. (Thanks to Secret Headquarters for letting us shoot there!)

Yep, she made the nifty shirt herself! Click the above image to take you to the full-size picture with all the details. Feedback on the pics I'm uploading this week is much appreciated. ^_^

Anyhow, I've been working all day on redesigning the Fangirl Project website. I hope (cross my fingers) that I finish before we leave for Atlanta. Wish me luck!

  • Aug. 25th, 2007 at 4:22 PM

Fangirl Project: Alice aka Beerbad

  • Aug. 25th, 2007 at 12:16 PM
[info]nautibitz and I are leaving for DragonCon on Friday, and in honor of those that have already participated in the documentary, we are going to be counting down by posting one Fangirl portrait every single day until we leave!

First up is the very kick-ass Alice aka [info]beerbad, Battlestar Galactica and Firefly fangirl in her awesome dorm room sporting BSG fatigues and dog tags!

Fangirl Project: Alice aka Beerbad
Alice aka [info]beerbad Rawr!

If any of you guys are going to be in Atlanta for DragonCon next weekend, please let us know! We don't have a booth for that con, we're just going to be wandering around, so it's best to schedule something with us if you would like to participate. And hey, maybe we'll have a party in our hotel room again, w00t!

ETA: Here's a link to [info]beerbad's post about her picture and how she sold her body to me and [info]nautibitz ROFL. ^_^

http://whedonesque.com/comments/13260

We've also been invited to a gamer convention in NJ this July called DEXCON! We're pretty hardcore gamers, as well as fangirls, so we look forward to checking it out. Thanks to Double Exposure Inc for inviting us and offering us access to the whole convention!

Speaking of, here's a list of upcoming events we will be attending -- let us know if you'll be at any one of thse cons!

DexCon 10

East Brunswick, New Jersey
July 18-22, 2007

Comic Con International
*
San Diego, California
July 26-July 29, 2007

DragonCon

Atlanta, Georgia
August 31-Sept 3, 2007

I think we may have a table at DEXCON, but for the others, we'll just be sort of wandering around. Maybe we'll get some silly t-shirts or aprons or something. =)

* My cousin, [info]lil_fatty is still trying to get us a hotel room at the Marriott for the Comic Con in San Diego, but so far it looks like nearly every single hotel in that area appears to be booked solid for the entire convention. We're still looking into different options and hoping for a miracle, but if we can't find a place to crash, we may have to cancel.
