taste-confuddlement?
You know, I really wonder how one person can taste of iron, dark chocolate and copper at the same time... If you just want to go for some weird metallic mix, why not write that s/he tastes like metal?

Kidney failure? really? I always connect it with asthma, since that's what I've got so if I run I get a lovely "argh my lungs are exploding" bloodtaste in my mouth. duhr, sexy


'neways, the character in question did have a small cut on his lip. but still.

since it was not-half-human-green-blooded Spock, I think that was a bit of taste-overload

I don't know about iron but the taste of copper is associated with blood. Did that person have a split lip and ate chocolate before that? (Still doesn't explain the iron, but... yeah...)

Actually, blood tastes like iron. Blood only tastes like copper if you're a green-blooded Vulcan.

But now I am imagining a bloody penny dipped in chocolate. Yum!

Maybe they've been reading the reviews in Wine Spectator. I swear, this is the type of thing that experts use to describe wines all the time. Though anything metallic probably wouldn't be in a complimentary review. :/
