Minor Homophone Rant
Really, this isn't all that big, but . . .
Phase = 1. That which is exhibited to the eye; the appearance which anything manifests, especially any one among different and varying appearances of the same object. 2. Any appearance or aspect of an object of mental apprehension or view; as, the problem has many phases. 3. A particular appearance or state in a regularly recurring cycle of changes with respect to quantity of illumination or form of enlightened disk; as, the phases of the moon or planets.
(There are more, but I don't need to include them all.)
Faze = to disturb, rattle, disconcert.
Archaically, 'faze' did not exist, and 'phase' was used to mean what 'faze' does now; so you could use 'phase' to mean the above definition (although people will look at you strangely).
But you cannot use 'faze' to substitute for any of the other current meanings of 'phase'. Really, you can't. 'Phase' means a lot of things, and 'faze' means only one. Incorporeal characters cannot 'faze through' walls. Software companies cannot 'faze out' old projects. Please, be using 'faze' only where you're supposed to; and if it makes it easier, ditch it altogether and just use 'phase' for everything. It saves time and headache.
