Author's Notes: This story takes place immediately following the season one finale of Castle, when Castle pulls Beckett out of Sorenson's room to talk to her about what he found out about her mother's case. My heart hurts for them when he tells her, and this was the only way I could see out of it. It's my idea for the beginning of season two, hence the prompt "beginnings." The end lyrics are from "Change" by KT Tunstall.
