Good evening everyone! It's time once again to announce a new arrival to our fair town. This time, it's Dani Reese (gunandcoffee) from Life who will be arriving. Methinks it's going to be hard to convince this one of all the weird things that go on but we can try anyway!

Since it's been awhile (besides the cracky stuff in fandomtherapy), I thought it'd be a good time to do another round of state of the characters!

Basically, what this post is for is to give the game at large an update or a summary of what's going on with each of your characters. Romances, classes, upcoming plots, things you might want to do with them in the future, crushes, people you want to thread with, etc.

It's basically a paragraph (or more) about where your character stands, what's coming up and what the future holds! You can do a comment for each character or stick all your characters in one comment.

For example: Umbridge: Sometimes, it's hard for me to play her because she's so intensive and tiring. But, she's having fun hexing students and pissing off teachers. I'm enjoying her games of give and take with Anakin and Wade, particularly. I'd love to see her thread more with Roy. She'll be leaving soon but not before a big explosive ending.

It doesn't have to be exactly like that but that's basically the gist. Feel free to reply to each other if you have thread ideas or even plot ideas. So, go forth and share!

It's that time again, ladies and gents! This Thursday the 16th there will be spontaneous bursting into song--and dance if you're up for some musical theatre--from all who wish to participate around Fandom. The singing is involuntary for them, but completely voluntary for you!

So! Get those playlists out and start planning, folks.

Okay, so, how many of y'all got into a fandom because of this game? Hands up, now. Don't any of you be shy. *raises both hands and jumps around and points at Robin, specifically* I would never have gotten into HIMYM if not for suit_of_awesome, and her awesomeness.

Fandom Spotlight, though, is a chance to get even more exposure for your fandom! Given how many fandoms are represented in game, there's a good chance that at least half the people playing aren't familiar with yours. But the longer people play, the more that changes.

You innocently start playing with someone from a fandom you don't know and next thing you know you're infected intrigued. Unless you can get your hands on the source material, AND find time to devour it obsessively read/watch/play it, you'll only ever have that tiny taste. Coming from the other side, it can be hard when only a handful of people in the game know your canon. If you want to do plot with those who don't, there can be a heck of a lot of infodumping, and it means you have the constant, naggging knowledge that there are people in the world who don't know how AWESOME your fandom is!

But that's okay, 'cause there's Fandom Spotlight.

Each week, one or two players (or set of players) will get to pimp their fandom to the whole game. You can talk about any aspect you like: plot, your character, other characters you'd like to see in the game, the creators, history, future speculations. It can be as long as you like, from endless saga to brief overview.

These will be posted each Sunday, giving people a chance to squee, boggle, or ask lots of questions. One of the only provisos is that any major spoilers that haven't made it into the game: 1) Go behind a cut and 2) Be clearly labeled as such. If in doubt, cut and warn.

Fandomites! Some of you might have already noticed it blocked out on the plot calendar, but in the week of July 27th through August 2nd, Fandom High will be hit by the semesterly BDE (Big Damn Event)!

On July 27th, the denizens of an alternate Fandom, wrapped in tragedy, are going to make their last desperate bid at saving themselves. Unfortunately, their call for help won't bring them any new heroes to save the day: just the minds of our present Fandomites, sucked across dimensional borders at random to make a home in the heads of their AU counterparts. This wasn't what they'd planned, but this is what they got - and what our Fandom will have to deal with.

Why are we announcing this so early down the road? Well, it's time to start planning! We are opening this BDE up to all, including alumni and expatriates -- although the latter are restricted to participating only as their AU counterparts, while current townies, students and teachers may participate across the board.

We also know that a few of you (and one of us) will be just getting back from San Diego Comic-Con on the 27th. Have no fear: the items scheduled for that day will be setup-only, and preplayed.

Good afternoon (and sad afternoon since Andy Roddick just lost in Wimbledon WOE FOR ME)!

We just wanted to make a quick announcement to let everyone know about a change to one of the rooms on the sixth floor. After some discussion, we've decided to modify the padded room into a multipurpose room in the vein of the Danger Shop. It will have two settings: (1) a physical safe room of your own design or a (2) psychically and magically shielded meditation room of your own design. Those who wish to use this room will be able to pick which environment they are using and pre-set a release time for when they are finished utilizing the room or not lock it at all, if they don't have a need to.

Just a tap on the shoulder to remind everybody that class sign-ups end at midnight PST tonight (3 AM my time, and yes, I'll probably still be awake :-P ) so get your students in there, if you haven't!

For the record, the classes that are already over-full and will need to be Random-Number-Generated down to size are Ethics & Etiquette, Destiny & Free Will, and Tactics - so if you're signed up for one of those, you might want to cast a look around for a backup class just in case.

Newbies!

You should, by now, have received invites to fandomhigh, fandomhigh_ooc, fandomtownies and fandomhighdorms (students-only). You can check them here. If you don't have an invite you should have, leave a comment on this post and we'll correct it!

Also, all new characters should have their tags added to the proper communities, and teachers, you can find your class tags under the cut. Let us know if tags are missing or need to be changed!

Alumni and other students who are leaving for term 2, please make sure you have your characters off-island by tonight (Thursday, July 2nd)! It's time for the new students to come in and make their mark, so let's all set up and get our pina coladas ready for a new session!

As we announced earlier, the sixth floor of the dorms was renovated and completely redone. Now that the job's complete you are free to use any of the new attractions described in that post. As a reminder, the sixth floor now contains: full dining room with attached kitchen, a full dance floor with a pole and a disco ball, a ballpit, an art studio, and a padded room.  Tags have been created and you're free to use these establishments as you would a common room in the fandomhighdorms comm (save for the padded room).

So, go forth and enjoy your new sixth floor!

Newbie time is almost upon us (eeeee!) and that means it's almost time for the newbie shuttle! To steal borrow the explanation from the lovely wantstodirect:

Our local airport (BWI) has a Portalocity (interdimensional travel service) port and lounge. Students can arrive by either plane or portal and gather in the lounge until a bus from Fandom shows up to take them to the island. This is completely optional; your new characters are still welcome to arrive on the island in any manner you choose.

What we need: One new student character to put up the post and OCD, and at least one teacher or adult to drive the bus and greet the students. Traumatizing them before they reach the island is optional. The post should be made Thursday night sometime between 4pm-6pm Eastern, but be set for Friday morning (before the picnic).

Newly arriving students are welcome to join the post and get to know a few of their fellow newbies before actually getting to the island. New teachers are welcome to grab a lift as well. Check out the links above if you want to read previous newbie shuttle posts.

Most of you know what this is, but for the newbies: a long time ago, when the game was young, I started keeping up a list of IC birthdays for the purposes of great OCD. It gets posted on the first of every month, give or take, and the master list is reposted at the start of each semester. They're based on canon, actor birthdates, astrology, throwing darts at the calendar, and anything else that works OOC and IC. This isn't written in stone -- if you have a live canon and get Jossed on a birthday, it can be changed on the list.

The list is of character birthdays, but it's for OOC knowledge; birthdays aren't announced within the game without player permission.

It's almost American Independence Day, and Fandom being where it is, we couldn't let that holiday pass us by without a celebration. So, this Saturday, everyone's going to be invited to the National Mall in Washington DC for the July 4 activities. This is open for all students, teachers, and townies. It will be an all day event so if you choose to go, you'll be leaving early in the morning and coming back later that night. A post will most likely go up early Saturday morning in the fh_trips community for slow play.

Just like any Fandom trip, you're welcome to go off on your own and enjoy the festivities but don't get arrested! We've allotted all our bail money for other things.

As a reminder, everyone will be moving to the cabins on Monday, July 6th, meaning you get the whole weekend with your dorm roommates before getting settled with your cabinmates.
