The city is an amalgam of every tv/movie/comic city everywhere. The streets are lined with neon signs for every sort of shop you could imagine. Tall buildings block the light at street level. It's alternately dark and menacing and bright with hope. The city is a duchess, it is a whore, and the only difference is your perception of it. Creatures and villains, heroes and just plain folk walk the street, and you never know just who or what you'll meet. More detailed description of the town.
By posting to this community, you are consenting to the following: 1) That you, the player, are 18 years of age or older. 2) That you are aware that this is a roleplaying game involving mature/violent themes and concepts. 3) That you have read and understood all the rules and policies of this game. If you have trouble understanding the rules or policies, please contact an admin. 4) That you are willing to abide by the aforementioned rules and policies of the game. 5) That failure to abide by the rules/policies will result in admin intervention up to and including your removal from the game.
1. RP is all consent based. You may not harm or kill another player without their express consent. 2. You may not have more than 2 characters in this game. - This rule will be waived for dedicated players on a case-by-case basis. "Dedicated" means you've been here at least three months and played your current character(s) consistently and often. 3. Public Comm = PUBLIC RP. All the town and school communities are Public. Only private residences or dorms are considered locked/reserved RP. If someone interrupts your private tete-a-tete that's being held in a public post, deal with it ICLY. 4. Residences are considered private, locked RP unless otherwise noted and can be posted in character journals. Any private residence journal needs to be linked to the character journal during RP there. 5. Character Death: It happens. In this town, it probably happens violently. HOWEVER!! RP is consent based. You cannot kill another character without their consent. Any death plots or scenes should be put behind a 'Trigger' cut. 6. Plots that affect the city must be applied for to the Mods. If you plan to put a bomb in a shopping mall, derail a train, or fly an "I LOVE MARCIA!" banner over the city, you need to send an email to the Mods at least 24 hours in advance and work out a time for this to happen when a Mod can be online to assist with running the scene. There will be factors you are not aware of that will affect it. The city isn't inanimate. There are beings who will react. Be aware of that before you plan damage and mass casualties. 7. ICA=ICC. In Character Actions result in In Character Consequences. You can't always predict how another character will react to something, so make communication your best friend. When in doubt, talk to the other players in the scene before you post. There are also NPC characters, like police, who may intercede in Public RP, at the Mods' discretion. 8. The admins reserve the right to smack the stupid. Wherever possible, we'll try to resolve things in game via IC means. This may mean we drop an NPC in or mod an NPC from a previous scene. If we can't resolve something via IC means, we'll ping you OOCLY and give you a heads up on what we think the problem is and see if it can't be resolved. At the end of the day, we're all here to play and have fun.
Tropolis is a city outside the normal rules of time and space. Nobody knows just how long it's been there, because as far back as anyone can remember, it's always been there. Nobody outside the city seems to remember it, and indeed, it's not a place you can take a wrong turn and find yourself in. You have to know it's there, or want - in some cases, need - to get there, to even see the bridge. Where it is, in the real world, depends entirely on how you got there. Most people find it somewhere between New Jersey and New York, but others have found thereselves stepping onto the bridge from other places, and other times. The year in the city is 2009. No matter what year it was when you stepped onto the bridge, by the time you step off the other side, you're in Tropolis, 2009. Leaving the city brings you back to your own place, your own time, and once you've crossed, you can always come back. The city itself is, for the most part, like any large city. It has its good districts, it has its slums. The real difference is the inhabitants. Coming from all dimensions, all realities, and diverging timelines, they've found their way here. From the cultured, anesthetized suburbs of the north end to The Shades in the south, the city contains both light and dark elements - and some of the dark elements are very, very dark. Welcome to FandomTropolis: Bad Stuff Happens Here. People disappear, crime is commonplace, and the death rate is abnormally high. Contrariwise, the city sports an elite police division that's not above contracting out for.. other help. Police call boxes are in place around the city. Most of them are new digital callers, but down an alley lies an old fashioned blue booth, fake windows lining the top, with 'Police Callbox' perched on the roof. The box has been there as long as anyone can remember, and the door's always been locked. Strangely, the box goes unmolested, remaining grafitti free through the years. The birthrate of the city is low in proportion to a city this size, because it's not really the type of place you want to raise a child. Not when some of the denizens might look at a small human child as dinner. Psychics and sensitives say the city is a dark spot, a nexus of converging energies and claim this is what draws people to Tropolis. In the center of the city itself lies the Xavier Institute, a boarding school for 'gifted' youth, and Fandom University, a two year accredited Liberal Arts & Sciences college. The campus sprawls through a park-like area, the buildings connected by glass-domed tubes. One of the larger buildings looks remarkably like the Asch Building, site of the infamous Triangle Shirtwaist Fire of 1911. Gargoyles top the buildings of FU, and if you pay careful attention, the gargoyles change their positions on the buildings at night, seemingly at random. The city offers the finest in medical advances at Bethlehem Hospital, with a side division, The Brookhaven Building, which houses the criminally insane. The medical campus itself has picked up an ominous nickname on the street: Bedlam. Even criminals are wary of being sent there, and have been known to cop a guilty plea rather than try to swing an insanity rap.
