August topics with an important rule change announcement

IT IS IMPORTANT YOU READ THE FOLLOWING:

The mods of [info]fandom_muses have discussed ways to make writing more enjoyable at this community. We have decided to change a couple of the rules that we feel will benefit and inspire our members. Effective this month (July since we're posting early) the following rule changes have been made:

1. The activity requirement for [info]fandom_muses is now every two months rather than every month. If you have not written a topic for July and choose not to write one for July you have until the first of September to submit a topic. If you have submitted a topic for July you have until the first of October to submit your next topic.

2. Roleplay will now be counted toward activity. If you complete an rp thread between two or more muses each muse can use this toward the activity requirement. We will only be counting completed rp threads so let's go by the honor system here okay? All you have to do is comment in the monthly topic post with the link of the completed thread. Each muse who wishes to use that thread may comment with the link.

We hope that you find these changes fun and creatively inspirational. It really is a pleasure to have each and every one of you as a member of this comm. The mods look forward to continuing writing with each of you.

Just a reminder that all previous topics are always available to be used for any muse as long as they haven't used it before. You just comment to this post with the link to the prompt after you write it. As always remember to comment here with your July prompt link and add it to your memories. Also, a reminder all challenges are due on the first of the month at 12am (midnight) EASTERN time and must be 150 words minimum to count for monthly activity.

Important Announcement!!!!! Please read!!!!!!

Dear All,

As most of you know, SUP/Livejournal Inc. has made some interesting new changes regarding both services offered to future potential customers and the treatment of it's existing customers. This post reflects all of those changes. However, I am not here to talk about them directly. Your opinions on LJ and SUP are not really why I am writing this. In other words, please do not start an argument re: livejournal in comments or I will track you down, and beat you. ;)

Nobody likes a vague disclaimer.

That being said, please don't think we haven't heard you. We designed a poll asking you, our writers what you would like to see happen to the community. Would you like to move to Insane Journal? Would you like to stay here at Live Journal? The majority of you wanted to stay. We heard you loud and clear. Still, some of you wanted to go. We heard you too! So what are a few mods supposed to do with all of this info? That's easy, make two communities. Who says you can't have your cake and eat it too?

Through our own discussions
http://asylums.insanejournal.com/fandom_muses/profile was born. Why not have a community on IJ for those who wish to move and a community on LJ for those who wish to stay? Why not offer twice the amount of topics for both communities? Why not offer people the chance to play at one or either place? Why not just affiliate like crazy???

I can't think of a good reason. Can you? (This is a rhetorical question FYI)

Here is how it's going to work.

[info]fandom_muses will stay exactly the same. Same mods, same great topics, same great writers. Our sister community on IJ will offer even more topics for you to choose from. Yes, both communities will be free to mix and match topics from either IJ or LJ each month. The sister community on IJ will offer a very similar community with three of your four mods presiding over it's operation.

What does this mean for YOU the writer? We've already covered the topics (of which you will now have TWICE the amount to choose from), now lets get to the good stuff. Who can come and play?

For the next two weeks you are automatically grandfathered in. You can choose to play at both or either comm. Maybe you're tired of LJ and you want to move to IJ. You are welcome to, and do not have to complete any application. Perhaps you want to play at both places? Again, totally welcome to with no application. Or maybe you don't care to play at IJ and in that case do nothing! Nothing will change for you.

Please note, this offer is ONLY good for the character you already play. Don't think that playing Peter Petrelli on LJ automatically makes you eligible to play Sylar on IJ. It doesn't.

The new community will open effective April 1st. However, before the opening occurs those who wish to play there should contact the proper authorties.

To add your muse to FM IJ and for all FM IJ needs please contact: justpromptsmods@gmail.com

To drop your muse from FM LJ and for all FM LJ needs please contact: fm.mods@gmail.com

Any questions or concerns can be directed to comments here or to the appropriate email address.

Thanks for your cooperation!

Jenna (on behalf of the FM Mods)

say what?

[info]ny_city_boy

A moment of your time please

Recently, LJ has decided to discontinue the creation of basic accounts. Any new journals that are made will automatically be forced to be a plus account, complete with ads, if the creator doesn't choose to keep the account PAID. Not only was this choice made without consulting their advisory board, it was attempted to be hidden by the staff members. When they were asked about this choice they addressed LJ as a whole by being condescending and trying to use spin control. This is not the first time LJ has done something that has left it's community going '...wtf'. It is not even the first time it's effected writers like us as I'm sure some, if not all of you, remember the strike-through fiasco awhile back when LJ was still owned by SixApart. As writers in this sort of format we are directly effected by this choice of forced ads on free accounts as we tend to make new muse journals as the inspiration hits us. I know I personally keep several of my muse journals as well as my friends muse journals paid, and some I keep basic as I can't stand ads. We were promised awhile back that ads would never be forced on us. They changed their policy and they failed to have respect for us as community members to inform of us this change or handle our questions with respect. We have always run fandom_muses fairly. We don't want to move the community to insanejournal if the majority of you wish to stay. That is why we are having this poll. It would be preferred if you only voted with one of your muses. We have a contact list so we'll be able to keep track of how many muses each of your votes count for. Basically we just want to get a feel for what the community wants to do here.

Insanejournal does not force ads on it's free accounts. It does offer 100 icons and a variety of services for free. It's owner communicates with it's community members. LJ has been around since 2001 and has gone through several changes reflecting the change in ownership. Basically, we'll understand if you want to move and we'll understand if you'd prefer to stay. We'd just like to know what the majority of you want to do so we can react accordingly. We're truly enjoyed having each and everyone of you in our community and want to continue to have you here no matter where fandom_muses calls home. So, please, take a moment and make yourself heard.

Thank you,

Ashy on behalf of the FM Mods

December topics

November has been a busy month for everyone. No matter if you were doing Nano, dealing with family, work, or preparing for the upcoming holidays, it's been a stressful and busy month. We know this because we've felt it ourselves. So, consider this our holiday gift to you. November activity checks will be done at 1am Eastern time on Monday, December 3rd. That gives anyone who hasn't completed their November topics for whatever reason an extra couple of days to do so. Anyone who hasn't completed their topics by 1am Eastern on Monday will be removed. We rarely give extensions at the last minute, but we understand how busy this time of year is. Have a safe and happy December, and we'll see you next year.

November Topics

This is being posted early because a lot of people participate in Nanowrimo during the month of November. We wanted to give our members a chance to do their November topics early instead of having to go on hiatus for the month of November should they decide to participate in Nanowrimo. Of course the option for hiatus is available, but we'd like to remind you that if you are on hiatus then you are not permitted to rp in the journal you're a member of here. Hiatus is just that. You're too busy to do a 150 word topic then you should be too busy to rp. If you do decide you need a hiatus please let us know as soon as possible so we can get you squared away on the list. To anyone who is planning to participate in Nanowrimo, GOOD LUCK!

"I wanted a perfect ending... Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity." --Gilda Radner

May Topics Post

This is being posted a little early mostly as a reminder to those of you who have yet to post your April topics that you are quickly running out of time to do so. If you don't have your topics done when we check, the muse becomes available, and you can't reapply for thirty days. Just a reminder: If your application contains spoilers for the last couple of episodes of a new show then you should clearly mark that in your subject line of your application. The mods have no desire to be spoiled for our shows and it only takes a moment to let us know there are spoilers in the application.
