| About: | Remember the time when you were still a rapid fan-person, spouting Mary Sues (who you denied were Mary Sues) left and right and stories to go with them? Now you've seen the error of your ways and are creating what you hope are better fan characters: good and proper and acceptable OCs. Unfortunately, the reasons that you became wiser are the same reasons which now keep you from revealing your OCs to the public anymore. You may still want to, but, simply put, you're nervous about others' reactions to them. Or maybe none of the above applies to you. But that doesn't mean the community isn't for you too. Read on!  This is a general community for fan characters, more commonly known as "original characters" or OCs, and for people who have either created them or have an interest in them. Think of it like ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif){kind=small} chuunin or soul_society - for OCs. The idea is that it is meant to be a friendly environment where you can discuss, showcase and/or share OCs, post artworks and stories, ask or give beta-reading, and all those other things which are usually associated with fan communities. Yes, ranting too (...even though that probably doesn't count as "friendly").As this community places more emphasise on actually introducing your OC to the Internet, oc_analysis would be a better place to go if you are actively seeking concrit about your OC. Nevertheless, keep in mind that if you do introduce your OCs here, you are still opening yourself to constructive criticism - that is: pointing out the flaws to them (it's different from flaws in them) and, hopefully, giving advice on how you could improve. "Flaming" means a direct attack on you, which, by the way, will not be tolerated.However, this is also a community which recognises that Mary Sues are a stage which people go through before they realise and move on to creating more realistic and more interesting OCs. So if someone's character does seem to have traits of or seems to be a full-blown Mary Sue, please keep the sarcasm and snark to a minimum. At the same time, don't expect to be coddled.
