 | 10:36 pm Is it common, or even normal, to ovulate twice in one cycle?
I normally have cycles that are 35 days long, and I usually have a luteal phase of 18-20 days .. today is day 45 into my cycle. (I have never had a cycle this long!) I thought I may be pregnant, but after 3 negative tests amongst low temps and odd fertile looking CM, I am beginning to think I might be ovulating a second time within the same cycle? After ovulating around Day 16, my temps looked typical and began to decrease gradually so I expected my period to come and then out of nowhere they dropped to 97.2 the other day and now are coming back up.. not to mention that yesterday I had eggwhite CM.
So what are your thoughts? Any other explanations?

| 12:35 pm Hello! I'm new to this community, and I've been lurking for a while. ( How I got here... )( What led me here... )
So...I just finished reading TCOYF, and I'm ready to start charting!!! :) I have a few questions for you more experienced FAM practicers, and I'm also interested in any random advice that a newbie would find helpful...
1) TEMPING: I have a totally variable schedule. I work some late nights, some early mornings... does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get a temperature taking habit established? I figured out that I'm usually still home at 7am, and USUALLY have been sleeping for at least 3 hours by then, but the thought of getting up at 7 after falling asleep at 3 sounds awful, and wouldn't that be more like taking my temp in the middle of the night? I could probably usually temp around 9, but there are occasional days I have to be out of the house before then...Also, I sometimes wake up for just a minute or two when I'm at my boyfriend's because he gets up at 7-- I usually don't even remember it, but he says I say hi to him. Does such a short wake-up count as breaking up the 3 needed hours of consecutive sleep?
2) CF: I haven't started charting it yet, but I've been paying attention to my CF for a while now, and I find it very confusing. I definitely recognized EWCF for a few days in the middle of this cycle, and a dry day/sticky day or two at the beginning, but the rest of the time I would say felt wet. I guess creamy/lotiony is the closest description. Is it possible that creamy is my BIP? I'm a little concerned because I had a really tricky yeast infection/possible BV recently, so this might actually be abnormal discharge...I just never paid enough attention to my CF in the past to know for sure!
Answers to these questions and any other helpful advice for getting started will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

 | 01:27 pm - Question... Hey all,
I've been charting for over a year and am pretty confident in my charting skills, but I'm pretty confused this time around. I'm getting some non-standard, high pre-0 temps (chart below). My usual O date is anywhere between CD 13-17, but CD 6 is way too early. I haven't had any fertile CF yet. Any reason why they're getting to be so high?
I am a bit under the weather these past few days (horrid sore throat, headaches, allergy-type stuff), but no fever; and the only other explanation I can think of is that I haven't been eating as much as usual because I haven't been feeling well.*
Any help is useful! Thanks!
Chart: http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/1fd08d
___________________ *I'm in recovery from an eating disorder, and I noted a while back that when I don't eat a fair amount of calories my temps don't go as low pre-O, and it takes longer for me to ovulate. I have a few theories, but it might just be because my body's heating as it's trying to store up what it needs?

 | 01:11 pm - Daily meds and fertility Would taking a daily allergy medication (loratadine) lower fertility by decreasing cervical fluid? Does this pertain to all types of CF or just the fertile types?

 | 09:26 am - Allergies & BBT Quick question: when you are in the middle of an allergy attack and temp, can you expect to see your BBT a little higher than usual? I'm a little early for ovulation but this morning I woke up an hour before I was supposed to with an allergy attack, so I temped and was over 2/10ths of a degree warmer than the day before. I may have ovulated but I wanted to rule out the allergy thing first.
Thanks!!

 | 12:55 pm - TTC question I chart on FF. Last month I was my first cycle TTC. Clear distinct rise in temps that showed I ovulated on CD 18 and my menses started 12 days later. This month I decided to use OPKs because my cycle tends to be irregular. Got a definite positive OPK and ovulation should have occurred between CD 19 & 21. I'm on CD 24 and have not seen a rise in my temp above the base line. Is it possible to have a positive OPK and not actually ovulate?? I'm confused! TIA

 | 11:31 am - If you chart in C and are wondering what just happened to FF... ...that was me. I dropped them a line pointing out that it's more common to chart to 0.05 of a degree in C, since that's closer to 0.1F (as opposed to 0.1C being closer to 0.2F), and it's easier to spot the thermal shift. To my surprise, they've actually implemented it. If you shift back and forth from Celsius to Fahrenheit, the charts now look very similar, whereas before the Celsius ones looked oddly flat in comparison. And if you're used to counting up three squares (or whatever rule you use) for a thermal shift, you can now do that in both C and F. Apologies to anyone who's used to the flatter look and is completely thrown by this, however.
For the sake of curiosity, would someone with a paid FF acount be kind enough to tell me what FF have said about this? I can see that they've made an announcement, but they won't let me in to view it. It's nice to know that they listen, however. Next I might try suggesting that they come up with a system for marking the fertile CP days as green for those of us who are only using two out of three CP signs (e.g. I chart height and softness but my cervix is too lumpy to get anywhere with openness). Or even that they provide a category for women who are charting purely for health reasons rather than for contraception or conception. I know they don't want to include tta charters, but would the health ones be too much to ask, do you think? It's bad enough that they use the euphemism "baby dance" for people who are trying to have a kid, but for those of us who aren't it's even more repellent.

| 11:24 pm - TTA with normal cycles but curious about possible fertility problems Is it possible for one to have normal ovulation patterns, textbook thermal shifts with accurate temps, and classic biphasic charts without having actually ovulated? What (medical) conditions would cause something like this to happen? I'm generally healthy overall but I was just wondering if there is such a thing as having normal ovulation patterns/signs without actually having released an egg at all.
edit: I've read in the books that one can ovulate without catching it on your charts...but basically my question is if it's possible to be the other way around...to have CLEAR thermal shifts but not actually ovulate/release an egg. What medical conditions would cause this?

 | 12:39 am - CF that just won't stop! There is only one person in my offline world who doesn't think I'm crazy for doing FAM, and that's my new husband. (We're TTA right now.) Le sigh... It is so encouraging to lurk around in this community and be reminded that there are like-minded people out there. Keep on charting, ladies, and do it proudly!
I got married and started having sex almost two weeks ago, but had been charting for several cycles previous just to get used to it. The thing that's wigging us out right now is that I've been having fertile-quality cervical fluid for a whole 10 days already, with no sign of a temperature shift. We've been using condoms starting on the second day of our honeymoon, so I'm confident that this is cervical fluid and not semen. What the heck?
The chart for this cycle, if you're curious.
I'm writing this post more for empathy than anything else ... yeah, I know that our bodies can go haywire when there's been a lot of stress or a lot of changes, and moving/job-hunting/wedding/packing/driving/honeymoon was not exactly easy on my body. We're sick of condoms, though! Go away, fertile fluid!
Again, le sigh... Hoping for that temperature shift tonight!

 | 09:23 am - Getting used to charting in Celsius I've just taken up charting again after about 6 months off, and after years of using a Fahrenheit thermometer, I'm now using a Celsius one. Unfortunately most FAM literature is strongly geared towards F, for instance it gives all the numbers for thermal shifts and coverlines in F, and the few C charts in the back of TCOYF actually have numbers missing on the BBT scale. I fished out my calculator and copy of TCOYF this morning to try to work out what the equivalents are in C. The one certain thing seems to be that the coverline should be drawn 0.1F above the highest of the six pre-ovulatory temps, which translates to 0.06C (technically 0.055556). But a coverline is just a visual guide, the important part is the thermal shift. I'd remembered the thermal shift rule as being 0.3F above the previous 6 temps (giving 0.17C), but TCOYF turns out to say 0.2F (0.11C), and other sites such as FF are saying 0.4F (0.22C), and some are saying 0.4-0.6F or even 0.4-0.8F. I'm thinking of picking 0.15C as a rule, especially since it'll be easier to see visually on my chart (which has lines every 0.05C, whereas in the past I was used to counting up three 0.1F units).
Considering that I sometimes get a slow rise, have unreliable CF due to having a copper IUD, and am still in the early stages of learning to interpret CP, I could do with a frame of reference here. It doesn't help that I'm not used to the numbers, and am still having to convert them to F to get some idea of how they fit into my usual pattern. (I started cervix signs on CD4 but temping on CD16 this cycle and my average O date is CD18, so I realise this one may be a washout. My temps rose this morning by 0.12C and my cervix is just being ODD at the moment, though (later edit) it's now being thoroughly fertile again. It'll probably get clearer in a few days, but if I get a gradual rise and continuing cervical oddness I might still be unable to pinpoint the actual O date.) I know I sound like I'm fussing here, but for health reasons it's very useful for me to know when I ovulate and I'd like to be getting it right from the start, plus I can't be the only one wondering this! I'm now genuinely curious as to what the thermal shift rules should be, since I know many women don't get the immediate enormous thermal shift that turns up in examples in books or websites.
( Charts, in case anyone is curious about either my thrilling situation, what my charts look like with IUD wonkiness, or just wants to see the pretty charts I've created in Open Office Calc )
N.B. Mods, your tag for this has a typo, it should be "celsius" rather than "celcius". You can edit tags if need be without untagging the original posts. I've had to do that a few times when I accidentally created a certain tag in both the singular and the plural (netbook/netbooks sort of thing) and wanted to conflate them.

 | 08:34 pm Hello everyone. I've been charting for about 2 cycles now, and would like to try charting with the fertility friend website I see everyone use. I have tried to sign up a couple times, but it will not let me. Does anyone know how I can become a member?
Thanks

 | 10:32 am - very confused... ETA: I fixed the chart (I hope!)
I am very confused, and I need some help understanding what might be going on with my body. I started temping/charting on May 13th, the first day of my last period. I was very good about temping around the same time every morning, until this weekend when my husband and I went away for the weekend and I forgot to bring my thermometer along with me. Before I started charting, I was informally keeping track of my cycle and noted that it was usually about 30-35 days long. For the past few months, I have had long periods that have me bleeding for 8-11 days. On Friday, I started spotting. Since it was 12 days after my period ended, I was thinking that it was probably ovulation spotting. I have experienced ovulation spotting once in the past, but it only lasted for a day or so. This spotting happened Friday and Saturday and was still happening this morning, but then it turned into a full-on bleed that seems like a period to me. If this bleeding is really the start of a period, I'm assuming that it means that I did not ovulate this month. FertilityFriend.com did not give me an ovulation date. Right now I have entered this current bleeding as a light period bleed, but I guess I will have to wait and see how it progresses. I have included my chart under a cut in case anyone wants to look at it and help me interpret things. I know that the fact that I skipped 3 days of temping in a row doesn't help matters, and I'm really regretting it... but hopefully I can decipher some meaning out of this chart despite that mistake.
( Here is my chart, for reference )
If I am right, and I have started another period without ovulating, what does this mean for me? I am almost certain that I have ovulated in the past... I have had spotting and pain right around the middle of my cycle that I always assumed was ovulation. This month I started dieting and also started taking a couple of rigorous summer classes. Is it possible that my body is just reacting to the severe change in diet and high levels of stress I have subjected it to recently?
TL;DR VERSION: I think I had an anovulatory cycle, but I missed a few consecutive days of charting. I think I am starting my period today but it is very early/around the time that I would expect to be ovulating. My chart for this cycle is under the cut, and I am hoping that somebody can help me decipher it because I am very confused!

 | 08:11 pm I have heard that women with very short cycles might not be able to get pregnant due to a short luteal phase. ( I am still new to the whole concept of FAM.) What about women with long cycles? My last cycle was 40 days long. Before that I was on HBC.. but prior to HBC, my cycles were from 35-40 days also.. so it seems to me that so long as I ovulate, my cycles will be long.. Is there anything wrong with having long cycles? I am actually REALLY charting this month- cm, temping, everything! So I can learn more about my cycle and how my body works, because I don't know very much (so be warned I will be back later in my cycle with more questions most likely, LOL) but the one thing I do know is that my cycles are very long.
Also.. for others, do you find that your temp decreases when you get your period?

 | 04:40 pm - dieting/weight loss delaying ovulation? So this was probably stupid of me, but I decided to start dieting and to start charting my cycle at basically the exact same time. Normally, my cycles are between 30-35 days long, but I have never charted before so I don't have any idea when I normally ovulate. Right now, I am 21 days into my cycle with no sign of impending ovulation (ETA: by this, I mean that my CM is and has been dry the whole time - but I am also wondering if I am checking it wrong... I read in TCOYF how to check it and I read the tips on FertilityFriend, but I just don't trust myself...). I have lost about 10lbs in the last four weeks - is it possible that this weight loss has affected my cycle somehow? I know that weight loss can delay a period, but can it delay ovulation too?

 | 03:44 pm - time to temp If you dont temp at the same time everyday, how much of a difference can it make?
On Sat + Sunday I took my temp at the same time, 98.6 and 98.4 .. Today I woke up three hours earlier, and got 97.8. Could this be due to not taking my bbt at the same time?
I've been trying to figure out if I'm pregnant.. if you didn't notice from previous posts, lol.. so the 97.8 kinda annoyed me. From my understanding, pregnancy is usually suggested by temps 98 and higher. :\

 | 06:03 pm - How many days DPO? I came off HBC recently. As a result, my cycle is a bit wacked out.. and I'm not even sure when I am supposed to get my period.. But I am AT LEAST 12 dpo today in my cycle. My last period was on April 25. I took a pregnancy test 2 days ago, got a negative. I'm planning on testing again tomorrow morning. (I didnt use first morning urine last time.) I am having a variety of symptoms which can match PMS or pregnancy symptoms (sore breats, fatigue, cravings, etc).. Basically what I'm trying to ask is, if I do get a negative again tomorrow.. do you think that most likely I am not pregnant? Or is it possible it could still be too early to tell? For others, around when would YOU test to get accurate results?

 | 06:10 pm - Ovulation day What is the latest day that you have ever ovulated?
I am assuming that I am having an anovulatory phase because I'm on day 25 of a normally 35 day cycle with no temperature shift. I was just wondering how long I have to go before I can assume that I am infertile. According to my cervical fluid I already would have ovulated about 5 days ago but there was no temperature shift. My cervix observations are not reliable yet because I'm new at this. Should I rely on my cervical fluid or keep waiting for a temperature shift? TCOYF doesn't give much information about this.

 | 06:41 am - Did I ovulate? This is my first cycle tracking my temp. I didn't actually start until a few days after my period ended. I use fertility friend but don't pay for any services. I've been averaging a 39 - 40 day cycle (some cycles a little longer, some a little less) for the last year. So I tracked my temp today and over the last few days it's been going up. FF tells my I ovulated on the 18th which is also the 18th day of my cycle. My monthly cycles tells me that based on the history of my cycle I shouldn't be ovulating until the 26th. I'm feeling like I didn't ovulate on the 18th because my CM is still thick and milky white. Which is more accurate, temp or CM?
Sorry to throw such detailed questions.. I know each person is different but just wondering if anyone has seen this before? We are TTC and since my cycles are so long I feel like I'm getting gypped out of the normal 12 times a year I could get pregnant so it's very important to me to get this right.
I'm a little peeved if I did ovulate because the week before we had sex like every other day but this week was really stressful and we haven't had sex since Saturday which was 2 days before the 18th. Tonight is our wedding anniversary so of course sex is going to happen. But man I'm just bummed if I really did ovulate.
Thanks for listening.

 | 05:05 pm - Period or not??? My cycle is driving me nuts.... http://forums.ovusoft.com/chart.asp?id=disturbedme (Cycle 36)
I posted a couple days ago not knowing if I had ovulated or not. And I still am not TOTALLY sure if I did... but anyway, the temp dropped all the way to 97.5 on CD25 and I started spotting. So okay, I was all prepared for today to be first day of actual menses... but so far it's just spotting. Actually the spotting is even very light. I've only had a couple of spots actually and a little cramping but not much... it's very, very strange. Maybe my period is just starting slow or something.
Any ideas what's going on? Anyone else have spotting instead of when they were supposed to have menses?
I don't think I'm pregnant because of the dip in temperature obviously, but stupidly, I'm about ready to go out and buy a test. LOL because my cycle is being very confusing.
My other question is: Is it normal that my temp went down yesterday and now it's back up today? Is that usually the way it works, is it normal? I can't find my "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" book, so I can't look at the example charts.
