    looking for a ride
    Hello,
It's that time again ...  I'm looking for a ride to and from Philadelphia.  I'm one person with several bags (tent, sleeping bag, duffel, food).  I could leave Wednesday night or Thursday morning and could return Sunday night or Monday morning.  I can bring car snacks and music.  Getting rides to Falcon Ridge with strangers has always worked well for me in the past!
    Thanks,
    Karen

    Chris Chandler House Concert
I know Chris Chandler has performed at Falcon Ridge at least once, so I thought I'd spread the word here.

Pinecrest presents: a very special house concert featuring Chris Chandler. This is an event you do not want to miss.

Chris Chandler has worked with everyone from Allen Ginsberg to Ani DiFranco and Pete Seeger to Mojo Nixon. Utah Phillips says, "Chris Chandler is the best performance poet I have ever seen."

He has been on the road for the last 20 years, performing on thousands of stages as well as for hundreds of organizations seeking social justice. His experience as a street performer and rabble rouser shine through every performance making him a welcome addition to festivals, carnivals, hay rides and riots, or where ever the rabble need to be roused.

For more about Chris Chandler, see http://chrischandler.org/.

    House Concert Details:
    Sunday, May 3rd, 2:00pm
Location: Setauket, Long Island NY. Email (or private LJ message) me if you are interested and I will provide the specifics.
    Suggested Donation: $10.

Updated info on all prices, dates, deadlines, artists booked so far are on NOT on our website YET, very late start this year due to the aftermath of last year's very severe weather that closed the fest early on Sunday. It was not until November we were sure we could continue.

Prices on 4-day tix go up 15 bucks in March when earlybird tix sales begin. All other tix categories avail at that time, single day and teen specials.

Our annual spring Preview Tour is not to be this year but there may be a few shows here and there featuring the 4 top voted 2008 showcase artists, Amy Speace, Blue Moose & the Unbuttoned Zippers, Abi Tapi & Lucy Wainwright Roche. We will post and E this info.

Very few artists confirmed so far, Clayfoot Strutters and Wild Asparagus. As mentioned, very late start BUT thanks to this community, artists who gave back their fee, volunteers who refused their annual stipend & many of you who donated to our Tornado Relief Fund, we are definitely good to go.

Thanks and Happy ALMOST END of Winter to all, Anne

Does anyone know when the festival will be this year? I'm assuming July 23-27, but I get confused about whether it is the 4th Thurs in July or the last Thurs in July. I want to mark it on my 2009 calendar!

Tonight we're going to give a little back to the festival that everyone loves!

    Falcon Ridge Goddess

Hello all my Falcon Ridge buddies!

What an amazing festival this year!

I know the hail craziness is on almost everyone's mind right now!

I hope you all arrived home safe and sound with minimal damage!

I drew this at the festival and I wanted to share it!

The Falcon Ridge Goddess (complete with funny money and wristband!)

I showed this to a few people at the medical tent and they liked it a lot!

(and on a side note-ish. During the hail storm chaos I was with my good friend Jesse in the medical tent I know a few picture took pictures of us together but I don't remember any of their names so if you happened to have pictures of Jesse and I (the blond) . It'd totally make my year if you could show them to me!)

Aftermath Report, Surveys, FR Bucks, Tix Refunds

This is Anne back in office in Sharon CT. Most important news, only a few bruises from monster hail and a couple panic attacks but NO INJURIES.

This was a mini tornado that hit us Sunday, it never touched down. We had been tracking this storm, labeled F5 on NEXRAD radar on my laptop in the Communications trailer. Was moderately severe, very compact and moving rapidly. It was past us & thought we were OK. Storm track animation showed it was moving away.

Than there was a sudden rotation and it came back with 70 MPH winds, 3 inches of rain and up to golf ball size hail. There was no time for a warning like the ones passed on earlier, it happened so fast.

We could not believe the same storm that had passed on the radar was now in front of us again, was on us before we could even get on the radio. I got one call in to mainstage and one to security base. Hail started WHILE I was making these calls on my cell, radio communication was totally OUT.

Tornado formation is very unpredictable. We just did not think anything like that was possible, indeed 4 of us looking right at the radar were puzzled at what we were looking at for several precious seconds.

As mentioned, no one was hurt, the clean-up is a bear and the income loss, just don't know yet. Janis Ian has donated back half of her fee and other performers have offered to do a benefit. We'll just have to see, honestly don't know yet.

------On surveys, FR Money and Refunds

Will get up survey up on website ASAP, may take a couple days will post a PDF as well as a Text Doc that can be Emailed back.

FR Money, you can use it next year if there is a next year, we hope so.
You can donate it to the local Food Bank as usual by sending back to:

    Falcon Ridge Folk Fest
    POB 144
    Sharon CT 06069

If you have a large amt, over $25 and absolutely need a refund, send back to same address. We will need to take a processing fee of $5 per refund. Sorry about this. It costs us banking fees, staff time, postage, gas to do this and right now every little dribble sends us further in the red.

Tix refunds. Send your unused ticket, wristband, cc receipt or order info. We will keep a list and give all a one day tix of your choice for next year. Worse comes to worse we will send refunds minus the $5 fee to that list.

What is happening now? Site clean-up still in progress, Bub is there all day with a small crew. I am doing 20 or so loads of laundry at home. All our backstage and green room wall hangings, curtains, tablecloths and the 300 or so towels for performers will be unusable if not dealt with immediately.

Lots of other stuff drying out all over the place, lost & found items mostly dried out, hanging in my garage and everywhere else we could hang them. Dealing with Lost & Found and Performer Merch rest of day, Weds.

Thanks to all our patrons & staff who stayed on into Monday and helped us with the stages and dance floor and Cantele Tents who came immediately on Sunday and started on the downed tents.

Big thanks to all of you who I know have unused tix and FR bucks and are NOT asking for a refund. That is so helpful and could make all the difference in the world to the future of the fest. That's it for now, Anne

    Budgiedome 2008
Before the big storm on Sunday, I wrote the following lines on the inside of The Budgiedome:

"Budgiedome 2008: Come in. Get closer. Know your neighbor"

Saturday night during the rains after mainstage, we all crowded in to get out of the weather.  A picture I took from the stage end of the dome has at least 50 distinct people visible in the photo, and there were others who were obscured by We're About 9, or who were just out of the frame of the photo.

Little did I realize that slogan would become even more important on Sunday when we hosted a few people who had most of their camp blown apart in the storm.  The Bugdiedome survived thanks to it's flexible design and hard work from Steve Martin. Many thanks to Lori Martin, Trace, Genevieve, [info]valjean615 and many others for helping us get set up for the concerts.

Many thanks to all our good neighbors including Tribes Hill (and AcousticMusicScene), the Front Porch, and the Syracuse University Outing Club.  Many thanks also to Alan Rowoth for pointing out the sites on the hill where good music can be heard.

And MANY MANY MANY thanks to all of you who stopped by, including our performers.

And many thanks to [info]horvendile for doing all the leg work in convincing performers that we're a good place to play.

Here they are! Our 2008 performers, including links to all their websites.

Cut because long list is LONG )
