FOR THE AUSSIES...

The National Story Writing Competition is open for business although you've only got until the 22nd of August... so I'd get writing. It's one of the few comps in Australia to offer good prize money and you have a reasonable chance of winning. Here are the details:

  • Entry is for Australian residents
  • Short stories should be original, previously unpublished work
  • Stories should not exceed 3,000 words
Prizes:
  • Adult 1st Prize $1500
  • Teenage 1st Prize $350 13-18 years
  • Junior 1st Prize $250 9-12 years
  • Local Award $500 For residents in Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges

If you're into script writing check out the INSCRIPTION which offers $200 000 in prize money to up and coming script writers. That's big money... so I guess it's worth a look!

Not sure where this piece is going, but here's a start lol

Title: GLASS HOUSE
by: [info]ellymelly
Rated: M I guess, though at the moment it's PG
Summary: So far? A look at the relationship between the colonies of Mars and Earth.

Sample:

Earth is not a museum. It is a glasshouse in a universe that likes to throw stones. A house of cards that plays it own hand. Little more than a rock, dragged unwilling through space with its waters bulging out the sides and its face to the sun.

That is what I would like to believe. It gives me comfort on cloud choked nights. Yet it is not the complete truth. Earth is a crucible with its slippery edges curved inwards. We settle in its centre, writhing against the silence.

I'm feeling very whiney today.  I'm sneezing, and coughing, and aching, and I'm cold, so, I wrote a poem.

Continuation of the First part of the Story with No Name

Story with No Name--Part2 )

All feedback welcome

A hello, after all I'm new to this group. I've posted some over at [info]fictionwriters and I thought to give this place a try.

I'm also looking for some feedback. I've been posting parts of this over in my journal [info]rhino_boy but here hopefully is the thing to date.
Mind you this is the longest single sustained project I've done. Maybe I can fool myself into making a novel out of this.

TITLE: (None yet)
Warnings: Cursing, descriptions of dead bodies, other adult situations
SUMMARY: What happens when you find a body and you belong to a minority that the police don't care about.

Hello writers :D

2007 is drawing to a close, so I thought that it might be nice to share with the community what you have written over the year that you really like and I'll put a showcase of sorts together for us as a community. This may not work, but I thought it might be nice to try. I always found that the task of writing can be exhausting (as you nanowrimo's know) so a little show and tell might be exactly what you need after the long haul. Any writing from the year is welcome, or if you wish, you can submit things that you've written in the past.

I've also collected a few useful links for those looking to write longer works of fiction.

Writing Your First Novel
How To Write A Novel ~ How To Plot Your Novel ~ How To Get Published

A huge congratulation to those who completed Nanowrimo.

So, yeah, I've got a new project at hand! And I'm trying to decide whether it is shit or non-shit. I'm in love with the idea, so I'm hoping the prologue and first chapter are good enough to continue.

Basic Premise: The world has simply gone to hell, and basically, snuff film has become mainstream entertainment for the masses. Post-apocalyptic, dystopia with a side-trip into the seamy underbelly of an entertainment business fueled by a jaded and callous obsession with violence. (In a nutshell.)

Snuff - a film, usually pornographic in nature, that depicts the actual killing of an actor onscreen and is filmed exclusively for distribution and profit.

Yep. So here it goes. Say what you will of it. It's my first draft. *holds breath*

follow the little fake cut...

I look at you, moon, once more
I won't see you again for a day
I'll miss you as I dream and snore
I wish there was another way

Goodnight...

I decided to write a poem, as far as what its about, right now I don't know, so here it is:

Deja Future

I sit alone, thinking about something I've thought of before
My thoughts drip like water
Bloody water, bitter, like darkness I think
Its like I'm thinking of a future I've thought of before,
Planning my life before it happens
When this life I think of,
This plan, if you will, comes true,
Will it be Deja Vu?
More like Deja Future.

So, there you go, its very short so I didn't cut it, hope thats ok!

“You look great in fishnet stockings.” It was a simple compliment given by a simple boy. The stockings were just one of the many ways Jenna had caught Andrew’s eyes.
