What is Fire Emblem?
...If you don't know that, I think you're in the wrong place.

Fire Emblem is a series of strategy RPGs created by Intelligent Systems (which is owned by Nintendo). There are currently eleven released. It became popular in the emulation world with Seisen no Keifu (FE4), and gained worldwide popularity through the inclusion of Marth (FE1 and FE3) and Roy (FE6, cameo at the end of FE7) in Super Smash Brothers Melee. The seventh game in the series, Rekka no Ken (Blazing Sword in the US), was translated and sent overseas. From then on, the US has been getting Fire Emblem ever since.

Who's this community for?:
f_emblem_rants is a community for disgruntled/pissed off Fire Emblem fans to vent about anything Fire Emblem related (obviously), whether you're pissed off that Ike isn't leveling to ranting about your most hated FE fic to ranting about how no one loves Marcus to how minor characters get no love to...well, I think you get the point. Of course, you can also state how much you love a character and such, too, if you want, even though it says, "Fire Emblem Rants". You can't be hateful all the time.

What's this community not for?:
This community is not your personal LJ, therefore we don't care if your boyfriend named Justin broke up with you because you were whoring yourself out to his friends and he didn't find that acceptable. You have an LJ. USE IT. We understand that sometimes you accidentally post to a community instead of your journal. I've done it, you've done it, we've all done it. So if you want to post an entry about how those OMG MEEN!!11 preps snickered at your really crappy photo manip of you and Celebrity Hunk #342 in your locker, take it to your LJ.

And obviously, if you hate Fire Emblem, this community isn't for you.

This community also does not tolerate wank. This isn't fanficrants. Any wank that results will have comments frozen and/or comments being disabled on the actual entry. If you want to cause wank, do it elsewhere or on your LJ. We're all mature people here, really. (I hope.)

In short, abridged terms: this is a rant community. People will be offended no matter what you talk about or how much you sugar coat things. Deal with it. Not everyone shares the same opinion as you.

There is no limit on what is ranted on here. Rant all you want about the Sues or grammatical mistakes, how Character A's not leveling up very well is pissing you off, etc. etc.. This is a place to vent your frustrations in peace without worrying about saying the wrong thing or having to worry about walking on egg shells about certain topics. After all, what's the point of a ranting community if you have to watch what you say? Just no death threats or anything against the TOS, please.

The Rules:
These are possibly the easiest, simplest, and common sense-est rules in the history of evar. But you still have to read them.

These rules are subject to change, and a moderator will make an announcement about it including the new policy. If you're unsure of whether something is against our policy, just ask. We don't bite, we're here to help.

I. Posting Rules

1. Long or not work safe (NWS) posts are required to be under a Cut. If you don't know how to do a cut, here's the Live Journal FAQ entry for it.

2. Only the Mods can delete entries and/or comments. You are not allowed to disable comments. People have a right to an opinion, and if you don't want to hear other people's thoughts because you might get called out on something, DON'T POST. If you need something taken down or deleted, tell us.
- In other words, think before you post. Sure, a rant is emotionally charged. But if you think you'll regret it the next morning, either think of a nicer/better way to state it or don't post it at all.

3. Make sure your rant has actual substance. Posting a list of characters and adding reasons that aren't really reasons to hate on them? That, to me, isn't something with substance and it belongs in your personal livejournal. Make it an actual rant. If you want to do something like that, make it a "Dear Character A" rant.
- "Character A has too much backstory" is not a valid reason to hate a character.
- RNG rape is not done by the units, it is done by the game, therefore, don't hate on the units. You can hate on the actual RNG if you want.
- Thinking Character A's sprite sucks is not a reason to hate them.
I think you get the picture on what actual substance is. If it's not worth the time spent reading it, then it's pointless. I'm not saying you have to write a thesis paper, but a "Dear Character X, I wish you didn't get RNG raped. Plz to be getting your strength upped when you next level. Love, Jayden" is better than "Character X, I hate your strength, I'll never use you again. Signed, Jayden." The former is a valid rant, the other lacks that special "something" that makes it one.

Note that this rule will be enforced at the discretion of the mods. Entries that break this rule will have a "candidate for deletion" tag appended to the entry.

4. The Troll Issue: do not feed the trolls (comment to troll entries), and don't troll other people's Livejournals (that's harassment, you know) or other communities. Suspected and/or blatant trolling and any harassment in comments must be brought to the attention of a moderator immediately. With links, screen caps, what have you as evidence.

5. Be civil. While threads about "OMG I HATE THIS CHARACTER" are allowed, please be intelligent and discuss it like an adult. Because Hate Character threads are big wank potential, the mods will track the thread very closely. If one comment (because it only takes one comment to start wank) has something wanky, that's it, discussion is over. Keep that in mind.
- When "bashing" a character, give reasons that are more than the "because she's weak" or "she's in love with the main character" or "He belongs in the Preschool Army with all the other kids like Nino and Chad and Lugh and Rei." You know, actual reasons. "Her personality just doesn't appeal to me," is a fine reason. "He's evil" is not. Unless, of course, you're talking about Nergal or Zephiel or someone evil.

6. USE THE TAGS. They're there for a reason! For a list of available Tags, go here. If, for some reason, you write a rant and we have no Tag for it, (for example, you wrote a Monshou rant and we have no Monshou no Nazo rants tag) you can request one here.

Not using the Tags feature results in the entry getting tagged "untagged" and after a month, it will get deleted. There's no excuse.

7. Though we allow rants on the same subject material (because it's fun, dammit), you should still see if someone ranted on your subject before writing a post on it. They might have said it better or made points you never thought of.
- If you do this, you should give a link to the post in question so we can take a gander.
- You don't have to do this, but it's nice to do anyway.

8. When posting your entry, the subject should have the following header:
[GAME ABBREV.] [ENTRY AUTHOR] Entry title
For example: [FE11] [sailorvfan10] There's only us, there's only this; forget regret, or life is yours to miss.

And this is a sure sign as to if you've read the rules or not. You will be prodded if you forget it.

II. Concerning Fanfiction

1. If you're providing a link to the fic you're ranting about, don't just post the fic without a rant. Posts like this will be deleted without warning. Explain why it's bad. Explain why you hate it so much.
- You don't have to provide a link to the fic you're ranting about if you'd rather not. But it would be nice so we can snark it with you.
- We are not GAFF or House of Badfiction or any other fanfiction sporking website, however. So don't go posting links to here for the fannit in question to see and then throw a tantrum. We don't want that. And if you're gonna go and review the fic in question, give constructive criticism. Poke fun all you want here, but be serious if you really want to help them.

2. This goes with the above, but it's separate because I feel it should be. If you nitpick a fic or snark it here or something to that nature, and you want to let the author know about their mistakes, do not, by any means, flame them. No matter how much you want to. If you want them to get better, help them. Especially if your "concrit" is merely a thinly veiled flame. If you want to know how to write good concrit, go here. Flaming is immature and I'm sure you're all mature young adults and/or adults. Act like it.

3. Don't be an elitist when it comes to fanfics. This means that you can't make an entry saying, "You can't do X, you can't do Y, you can't do Z, and most importantly, you can't do xyz. If you do, you suck and you should stop writing!" You have no right to tell people what they can and can't write. Who died and made you God of All Fanfiction? Just because you don't like a certain pairing, doesn't mean everyone agrees with you.
- This rule also applies to those sweeping generalisations of certain sub-genres of fanfiction (e.g. high school AUs). You can't say "All high school AUs suck!" because there are good ones out there. You just have to look for them. You can say, "Most high school AUs suck!", however, since you're not including every fanfic ever written for that sub-genre, just most of them.

4. If you're going to post parts of a fanfic, choose the best (/worst) three lines/paragraphs and post them. A paragraph is three to six sentences. Do not post whole fics! It's against the TOS of LJ.com and it's against our policy. If you want show more, provide a link to the fic in question.
- On the reverse side, don't just post a link and go, "Have at it, folks!" We like reasons for why things suck. This reverse side coincides with rule one of this section.

5. You can rant about all the crap you did when you started writing FE fanfiction. (It's fun, anyway! XD) You can even post links if you'd like.
- This is not a place to get concrit on your story. If you want concrit, please go to either con_crit, ficdiscussion, or little_details.

However, if you want to review FE badfic, please make use of fe_badfic. (Ranting about FE badfic, however, is allowed.)

6. Please to not be naming names. Use "Dear Specific Author" or something instead. (Even "Dear Specific Stupid" is allowed, yes. So long as you're not all, "Dear Specific Stupid named Rana" or something, because that's naming names.)

III. Concerning the Fandom

1. Please don't name the stupid innocent(s) you're ranting about. You can instead use the "Dear specific person" format outlined in rule six of the second section.

2. This is Fire Emblem. No rants about Melee or Brawl.
- Yes I realise Marth and Ike are in Brawl and Roy was in Melee, and that they're all from Fire Emblem.
- The exception to that is if your rant is about how people only know about Roy, Marth, and/or Ike through those mediums and didn't do their research. An example of a rant like this would be moonfall86's rant entitled "Turn off the Smash Bros. and do some research".
- All other Smash Brothers related rants should go in Smash Brothers Rants.

3. No character bashing. You can say you don't like Eliwood because you disagree with his morals or whatever, but you can't say you hate him because he's a pansy or emo. Him being a pansy and emo are fanon concepts, and not liking fights =/= pansy, it just means he's a pacifist. And Ninian might have a lot of problems, but one of them isn't "being useless". Dancers are actually apart of a lot of veteran FE players' strategies, so they're not useless.
- In short, don't make things up so the character looks bad. You'll look bad instead when someone calls you out on it.
- And don't tell people to not like certain characters. This isn't Gundam Wing fandom.
- And don't hate anyone younger than eighteen just because they're young and that "ZOMG THERE'S NO PRESCHOOL ARMY". You'll look like a moron. (Kids were used in a lot of wars, actually. They're expendable.)

4. No pairing bashing. Just because you like Eliwood/Lyn and think it's the greatest thing on earth, doesn't mean you have to be all, "ELININI SUCKS AND SO DOES HECTORELIWOOD AND GODDAMN THOSE STUPID ELIWOODMARCUS SHIPPERS BURN IN HELL". Just...agree to disagree, mkay?
- And no sweeping generalisations, either. There are people who like Eliwood/Lyn, Eliwood/Ninian, Hector/Eliwood, Eliwood/Marcus, and Kent/Lyn all at the same time. It's just the way it is.
- Don't tell people they can't like certain pairings. I'll say it again: this isn't Gundam Wing fandom. Eliwood/Ninian isn't Heero/Relena. Stoppit.
- And no hating on things because it's slash or yuri or whatever. If it ain't your cup of tea, fine, but keep your comments to yourself, then. We don't want to hear how "ZOMG SLASH IS ICKY GUYS I HAET PENIS". (Why are you even in FE fandom, then? Like, 97.8% of FE fandom is composed of slash.)

IV. Concerning the Games

1. Please make sure you know what you're talking about. Hanon is female in Japanese!Rekka and Fuuin no Tsurugi, for example. Saying things like Sacae is in Bern will make you look like an idiot.

2. Please put all game spoilers behind a cut and label it as such. Just because you played Akatsuki/Radiant Dawn, doesn't mean everyone else has. Likewise with any other game. There are still people who haven't played Rekka yet.
- Yes, this might seem stupid, but seriously. I don't care if this is the internet. Warn people. It's polite.

3. Remember that Jeigans can be good. Don't say, "OH MARCUS SUCKS AND THAT'S THE END OF IT."
- ...Especially don't say "Marcus sucks" because there are a lot of Marcus fans and you'll be flung to hell. Also, it's character bashing, and character bashing is bad. Stats =/= character.

V. Other things

1. Off topic chat is not allowed. Keep it to ranting about Fire Emblem, please. Or how much you love xyz from FE 85435. If you want to talk to one of your friends on this community about your day, please make use of email and/or IMing.
- Also, that's why Livejournal created personal journals.
- And we really don't need to know about an upcoming hiatus. This isn't an RP community.

2. Community promos are allowed, however, they must be Fire Emblem or writing/ranting related.

A: No. At least, we hope it won't turn out that way.
