I've watched a few really good films recently - "stardust", "cloverfield" and last weekend "the hogfather" (I know, finger on the pulse, remember?). really enjoyed "the hogfather" even though I've never read a pratchett book in my life. I was worried it'd be a bit inaccessible for that reason, but they must've done a really good job adapting the story because it wasn't as confusing as I thought it was going to be.

did you know about the apple logo being related to alan turing's suicide? I didn't until last week, and then heard it mentioned twice in as many days. first time was reading a book in my lunch break at work, then my college tutor on thursday asks "does anyone know the story behind the apple logo?" and was like "alan turing!". weird the way things like that happen.

does anyone fancy getting together for a drink sometime? all I do these days is work and sleep, seems like I haven't seen anyone since the summer!

No voice today. Had to pass off storytime duties to someone else. Three people are out sick today, too.

On my lunch break, I took my pc to a place that's got a good reputation, will diagnose for no charge, and has always come in the lowest as far as estimates go. The guy opened up my pc in front of me and immediately said, "Oh. Here's your problem, your processor fan is loose. See it wiggle?" He demonstrated the wiggle. Turns out that 3 of the 4 screw mounts had broken off. So, now he has my computer and will get to it by tomorrow morning (other computers were obviously in line before mine was.) However, he will want around $50 for me to get my computer back. $50 I don't have. Dangit. Crap. Maybe I can wait to pick it up when I get paid next week... Unless any of you lovely people would like to donate a few bucks to my paypal for the pleasure of my continued internet company?

If you want it bad enough.....
So, I was thinking in the shower again this morning. Yeah, I have magical water in my shower. Life's great that way. Anyways, I really would love to ride my motercycle cross country next month when I go back to Philly for Thanksgiving and my 20 yr. reunion. Yeah, I'm going, because I am a nerd like that.

Like Legion said yesterday, when you have money, you don't have the time and vice versa. I have found flights for $250 R/T because I can be flexible with my dates. I figure I can probably get one for $200 off priceline by putting in my own price. Now, if I ride the bike, it's about 45 hrs total each way. I might be able to pull off 15 hrs a day, but I'm thinking more of 4 days each way at 11-12 hrs a day. One stop will be my father in NC, and I would bet he would stuff a little cash in my pocket, because he's like that. I figure it will take $300 + or - 20 bucks in gas each way. I'm not sure how many tolls I'll hit, yet. I can take my tent and camp it along the way, and possibly find people here who would lend me a couch to crash on for a night. Hell, I'll clean your house for the oppurtunity...LOL Someone mentioned posting on CL and MM to offer headhsot shoots along the way, but there is always the flakey people, so I can't rely on that. The reunion is $85 itself.

Now, I have a place to stay in Philly, but I'll need spending money while there. And then I have to do the whole trek back. I'm looking at a thousand easy, twelve to fifteen hundred to have a good emergency contignecy. I can scrape about six hundred up by then, which probably won't even cover my gas. So, here is where you all come in.

Looks like most of the ride is I-15 to the 40, and then east on the 40 most of the way. If you know of small jobs along the way I can do, let me know. I am pretty handy with tools, clean well (even do windows), can cook, and of course, shoot your headshot, family portrait, etc. Otherwise, I'll need to start selling some images/books/calendars. See an image on my site you really love? Tell me which one and how large you want it, and I'll get it printed. I can print the B&W ones here, and my old lab still gives me a discount for the color ones. I'm gonna say $30 for unmounted 8x10's, $50 for unmounted 11x14s, and $125 for unmounted 16x20's. All will be autographed. You can order the book and the calendar through my site, http://grovesphotography.net.

I know the economy is rough, and many of you are just managing. I don't want anyone to put themselves out for this, but any and all well will be appreciated 8-)

OOoooo, another idea. The magic shower water must still be on me somewhere. I'll shoot a lot of pictures along the way. I'll create a photo book of my travels and offer it up for sale, but anyone who contributes will get a copy of it sent to them when it's completed. And no, I won't take three eyars to finish this book :-P

    30 Nights of Mayhem - Night 14
(almost all caught up with last weekends blog posts! Yay! My laptop died so that's why I've been a bit delayed with the posting of these things)

Ah, Night 14. So with saying goodbye to Fil and Jess and having stayed up until about 5am hanging out with Carrie's cousin April and a friend of hers we're back at it. So after another 5:45 arrival like yesterday the world has come full circle and again we have more scene changes! Ah, the beauty of coming into a place 2 weeks into the season. So after mulling around a bit and getting a kick ass parking spot I must say...we got placed. Carried was going to be a "floater" of sorts so she got to do some of the stuff I did on the first night as well as heckle people through a wall....which for her was probably somewhat enjoyable. I mean making fun people is such a good thing to do, getting paid for it is even better, right? As for myself, I found out that I was back in the country scene. Ah such a nice place it is. Kind of looks like something out of Texas Chainsaw and got quite a few people making Hills Have Eyes references.

I set myself up at the back of the scene and the other three people were scattered about the rest of the place. Oh so many scares and people falling down. Was a good night I must say. However, the flannel was definitely hot and it did take me a couple of groups to really get into a good groove back there. Throughout the night I did get a couple of funny comments though.....I called Kid Rock and then the ultimate.....Ted Nugent. Being referenced to The Nuge is never a bad thing....never.

Carrie ended up being all over the place...she was in the cave, faces and behind the walls. I'm not sure if she was anywhere else though. I'll have to ask her and maybe make an update in a later post.

During the first break that I took around 930 or so the line was wrapped all the way around the building again which raised a few flags with some people and Carrie included in that. Mainly since her day job is starting in the morning. Seeing that long line made things a little huffy with some of the cast but nothing major. I did manage to time my last break perfectly so that the end of the night I was outside smoking a cigarette and the last group was about half way through the house...was nice to not have to run back real quick.

So it was about 11:30 and as we turned in our costumes and took make-up off we ended up getting a nice surprise, a $25 gift certificate to Penn Brewery. Won't say no to that at all....ended up getting home around 1am after stopping to get a little something to eat since we were both hungry and after showering and passing out we both were welcoming the 3 nights off. Carrie especially....since she had to work during the day as well.

With that...here's to 3 days off and then back at it again. Hopefully this next weekend I'll be able to keep the posts close to being the day after. If not I'll just do it this way again.

So again...here's the tally for the randomness that goes on:
    Haunts 86'd:
    1 (bye bye Fright Farm)
    Broken Props:
    3 (bed, a bone, half of a scene's fencing)
Costumes Ditched: 1 (original prison costume)
Scenes Changed: 19 All in all it's been as follows:
Carrie: Coffin Girl, Exorcist, Cannibal, Dentist, Line Pacer, Drop Window, Morgue, Country, Faces, Cave, Behind the Walls
Me: Prison Scene, Cannibal Cage, Spine Pull, Cave, Faces, Chapel, Pitch Black Hall, Crazy Chef, Country
Bodily Injuries: Bruises (me...just lots of sore spots..even more now), Welts on knees (Carrie), Ankle Strain (Carrie)
1st Bloody Injury: Still Carrie! (we're not sure how this happened but I have a feeling it's from her having to be on her knees down at the Exorcist scene)

    30 Nights of Mayhem - Night 13
30 Nights of Mayhem - Night 13 So one night down at the new haunt and a bunch more to go. Night 13 definitely brought back memories of working at Universal. The crowd was that insane and we had a line that ya wouldn't believe. Something to the tune of 4.5 hours or so. Groups were flying through the place all night long. Definitely was fun but even more tiring. Granted you don't feel the tired as much until the end of the night.

This time I ended up being in "Faces" for the whole night and Carrie got her shot at being in the country scene. Having to work a door and a drop window all night long for me was rough, but it definitely was fun...had people screaming by the bus load and Carrie had a blast heckling and just causing random chaos back with the boys that love all things hick. All in all it was definitely a trial of endurance and we both only got a couple of breaks throughout the night but well worth it. Even if we were exhausted by the time we got home. What time did we get out you ask? Oh it was somewhere around 1am or so which means we didn't get home til around 2am. Again the pizza was worth the wait and we were able to get through the night despite still getting over being sick.

The highlight of the night though was watching the guy that works the line chase after two girls from the park that's next to the haunt, through a parking lot and then across the street to the main parking lot that we use. Was definitely a classic moment and one not to soon forget.

Stick around and see what's going .. tomorrow night....last night of the weekend and then a few days off. (which I'm using to write these oddly enough...long story on that one)

So again...here's the tally for the randomness that goes on:

[Words like violence break the silence..]
Today's gonna be an interesting day. Gonna preface this by saying I'm NOT COMPLAINING..just surprised at how much I have to do.

    Here goes:
    -Walk to and from work.
    -Work a quick shift today(10-3)
-Make some kind of dumpling/wonton + rice for dinner for the house.
    -Practice my music(4 songs worth)
-Take Kyon to & from work.
-Get sufficient work done on his top & actually START my dress.
    -.....exercise...?
-Track down a certain Japanesebritishfrenchwtf detective and abduct her. >.>
-Show said detective the basics of sewing machines while totally eating ice cream and making fun of television.

    Today's gonna be awesome~

(Let's see how much I actually get done.)

    And so it goes...
I just finished consuming a delicious pile of Taco Bell. Brandon was kind enough to bring it to me at Becky's behest. I forgot to eat lunch again today, and when 6pm rolled around, the troublemaking, creepy snoop made me forget all about dinner. Up until just now, I subsided on day-old Chipotle chips and guacamole.

Fasting is an interesting experience, but not when you're trying to move.

That reminds me -- for anyone I didn't tell, I am moving again (after only a month). After much debate and convincing, I finally agreed to move into a small place in Old Roseville. I would like to have my friends by for housewarming, but probably one at a time.

After I settle in to this place, I will continue to pursue my spiritual goal of minimizing my possessions. Until then, I continue to ponder koans, the Tao, and meditate.

After much consideration, I have decided to minimize my Web 2.0 presence. I need to take off all the narcissistic crap off this journal and use it more to watch e-pals. I will also be using this account in conjunction with Facebook for anyone who wants to keep up with me.

I am slowly coming to realize that most of my forms of entertainment are toxic to my spiritual growth. Namely, entertaining images such as funny porn and "the lulz." In Mother Night, Vonnegut said "We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be." Nyogan Senzaki and Gautama Buddha both said similar, especially in regards to the laws of causality. Aristotle, too: "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." If who we are is a result of what we have thought and who we will be is the result of what we think now (e.g., "right thought"), it is detrimental for me to continue this form of entertainment.

    Thoughts?

She didn't mean to deceive you, believe me
But sometimes the hardest part is conceiving

The good intentions that you had
    Now only came to this
And although she saw the mark
    The arrow missed

It isn't exciting reciting the stories
Of kind words turned hurting when routine get boring

Both getting tired of punk rock clubs
And both playing in punk rock bands
    The start was something good
But some good things must end

And she said, "It could never survive
    With such differing lives
One home, one out on tour again

    We may never come back
    The strike of a match
The candle's buring at both ends."

And now she knows too much
    And I'm too fucked up
It's awkward trying to make my move

    I'll pretend that I'm fine
    Show up right on time
But I know I'll never be that cool

I never wanted to hold you back
I just wanted to hold on
    But my chance is gone

    I know
    just where
    I stand
    a boy
Trapped in the body of a man and

I'll take what you're willing to give
And I'll teach myself to live
With a walk-on part of a background shot
From a movie I'm not in

    She's so important
    And I'm so retarded

    And now I realize
I should have kissed you in L.A.
But I drove home all alone
As if I had a choice, anyway

    Where are you coming from?
    What are you running from?
Is it so hard to see?

    And if you're feeling scared
    Remember the time we shared
You know it meant everything (everything)
You know that it meant everything to me

You know that it meant everything to me

"One day my log will have something to say about this."
What timing! I was just saying to myself, "Beandip, you complain too much in this here journal. You ought to make a post that's not a bunch of pissing and moaning for once." And then this meme popped up on my friends list.

Post 10 things that are going right in your life right now, it doesn't matter how small. You're happy with your cup of coffee. You saw a flock of geese flying over. ANYTHING. Things that make you happy. Things that make you smile. No pressure.

It's small and it's simple, but maybe for the time you are compiling your list, you'll forget about the bad going on and focus on something good.

Today, we had librarians visiting us from Estes Park. It was great to have them tour our library, observe our storytimes and compliment the heck out of us for some of the stuff we did. Made me feel proud and happy because many of the things they really liked were things that I implemented.

I think I'm losing my voice.
