I have an idea, too!
I read the last post and got this idea:

Wiould it be possible for elfwood to use a hide comments option, or something similar? If you look at livejournal, you'd see what I mean! One could, in theroy, so the picture click a "post comment" botton, and then go back to that picture, or, click a "read comments" botton to see what other people think. That way, well, it would help the really long comments and keep an artists page clean.

Dunno if that would work in EW, but it's worth a thought, right? =)

I don't see why that would be all that useful. It's not like "long comments" are all that long. And it's at the bottom of the page anyway - it is basic web custom to scroll down for long passages of text. It's not damaging the layout or structure of the page as it is now.

The only things at the bottom of the page are the links for reporting, the date, stuff like that, which the image usually knocks off the screen anyway, and which if the user wants to see it, they're going to tend to skip right to it rather than fuss over the height of the page.

And besides, when a few more comments are added, the longer comments will be bumped off the screen anyway.

Unless I misread you and you meant something entirely different from hiding the comments from the picture page itself.

The idea to be able to see the full-sized image while commenting would be cool though.

There is a limit to the amount of characters you're allowed to put in a comment anyways. I've had to split my long comment into 2 separate ones a couple of times.
It's also a very good thing if people are able to see the comments that are already there. That way, audiences who innitially have nothing to say may see a suggestion in another person's comment that they disagree with and tell you why.

If you only want to hide the comments because one of them contains a grossly exaggerated word ("KAWAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII>>>"), you can always edit or delete the comment. You're not changing the context of the comment if you fix the spelling.

On lj you get a page with 10, 15, 20 posts that can have comments.
On Elfwood you get a page with exactly 1 image that can have comments.
I can see that not displaying the comments right away on lj is a good idea, but I like the comments on Elfwood as they are.
