| About: | This is a community for the discussion and debate of the theory of biological evolution. The idea is that it is not limited to the debates concerning the relationships between evolutionary theory and creationism, although these are of course welcomed. Anything relating to the subject of evolution is considered on-topic, particularly news relating to the subject, and new journal articles or books. The purpose is not to rehash old ideas, but to learn of new information.
As always with these things, there are a list of community rules and regulations, which members are expected to read and adhere to. All new members will need to be approved by the moderator. Not adhering to the rules will results is users being banned from the community, although I will always try and make it clear why this has happened. I think that most are common sense, although some will be specific to this community.
1/ Don't do anything which contravenes the Livejournal Terms of Service.
2/ Community members are reminded to treat each other with respect at all times.
3/ Netiquette dictates that if you are to post a long entry (or should you feel you need to post an image), please use the lj-cut tag. For information of how to do this, check the LJ FAQ.
4/ Please do not advertise other communities in here. It is highly annoying and will result in an immediate ban. In this vein, please don't advertise this community in other communities, so I don't incur their wrath. Obviously what you post in your personal journals is up to you.
5/ Also, messages with user icons that contain excessive vulgarities or inappropriate sexual images may be deleted without notice. Screening and deleting comments is not allowed. If there is a problem, a moderator will handle it. Flaunting one’s disregard for community rules will not be tolerated and offending parties can and will be banned for such behaviour.
6/ While it is normal that community members will disagree with each other’s opinions and ideas, discussion of the disagreements should always be carried out in a civil manner without resulting to vulgarities or personal attacks. Any member who continually resorts to ad hominem attacks will be warned. And if such behaviour continues, he or she will be removed from the community. Such behaviour is not acceptable.
7/ Trolling is not tolerated, and “trolls” will be banned from posting in the community.
8/ All messages that disable comments will be deleted.
If making a point concerning evolutionary theory, please cite your sources, preferably with primary research, although I appreciate this is not always possible - quotations from reviews or critiques are also acceptable. If the source is available on-line, that is even better, and a direct link to the article in question would be much appreciated - I am trying to minimise the chance of deceptive quotations which omit information which puts the author's writing in its correct context.
In order to avoid the problems which previous forums of this nature have run into, if a well-worn argument is brought up, it will be allowed to stand once, after which I will provide a link from the userinfo to the thread to save us having the same discussion multiple times. Obviously, if you are bringing new data to an old argument then feel free to present it with your source.
