I woke up with it in my head.
Has anyone ever done a Firefly/Transformers crossover? I woke up with the idea of the crew finding one while on a salvage mission. Kaylee starts tinkering and wakes it up. It then joined the crew.

I'm torn between a Decepticon with a code of honor, or Grimlock.

Oh it will be, it's just a question of deciding who the transformer is. Grimlock or the Decepticon, to whom the name of Oberon seems fitting?

Oberon offers plot, while the mental picture of Grimlock bonding with Jayne offers high comedy.

I can't decide. The plotbunny revolves around Oberon, though. But still, Grimlock on Serenity . . .

Yeah, that has occured to me. I seem to recall that at least one of the late model decepticons switched sides, so there is a trend.

Mostly, I'm thinking of one who's nature argues against fighting with humans. No point in it. He's more interested in knowledge and exploration anyway.

Hmm. I'd be half-inclined to make the Transformer a space-capable guy, which rules out Grimlock. But I can't picture fitting a Transformer into the Serenity without it being a Beast Wars'former, who are only a little bigger than humans.

Any of the car types would fit into Serenity's bay no problem so long as they stayed in car mode.

Yeah, this Decepticar would have to be an OC. I was thinking one of the ones left behind to garrison Cybertron when Megatron took off after the Ark.

Grimlock would leap out the airlock to attack a Reaver. But again, there's the size issue. Even in Dino mode, Grimlock is still confined to the cargo bay.,

I have been CONTEMPLATING this since the movie came out. I am SO seriously tempted to do it, but I dunno if I'm very good at getting the characters down in the Firefly universe....

God, that would suck.


The plot is the hard part, but honestly, I think Serenity could handle a normal sized car. Maybe even two. Hmmm. The idea I had was that they needed to do a run on some scrap-heap planet, and Kaylee ran into a transformer stuck in alt-mode, and of course her mechanic-personality made her go "MUST FIX." Just turned out to be a Transformer. And then I think there was something magical about them going searching for other Transformers. I dunno!

That was pretty much the idea I had. Except that the Transformer was in Stasis Lock until Kaylee accidentally trips something during her repair efforts, triggering his self-repair program.

Naturally, everyone ignores River when she starts talking about the conversations she has with the car.

The works of Dyce will probably be an influence. Minus the River/Jayne shipping, of course.

I can actually see Grimlock bonding very quickly with Jayne,

I have this mental image of Grimlock in dino mode, kicking Alliance Ass, with Jayne on his back, shooting at anything that moves.

"How . . . nice," Simon Tam managed as Kaylee, Jayne, and Mal pushed the car into the corner of the cargo bay and strapped it down with magnetic cables.

"It's m' project!" Kayleee explained, pushing up the engine cover with one hand and shining a light in with the other, making happy noises.

"It's only asleep." River Tam was sitting on the steps. Her hair hung down over her face as she watched Kayleee. "Not aware. Hurts with past misdeeds." With that, she climbed up onto the car's roof and lay there. "No dreams," she informed them. Or she might have been talking to the car. With River, it was sometimes hard to tell.

*The transformers comic were orginally put out by Marvel, and Stan Lee, who pretty much defined comics as we know them today, would often refer to fans as "True Believers". So I'm clearly a dork.

The mule had barely slowed to a stop before Mal had leapt out. The car quietly pulled up, the door opened and the canopy lifted up and forward.

"The car drove itself, Mal," Jayne said, clearly frightened out of his wits. Mal wasn't far behind. "And it was a robot 'fore that."

"And you're bleeding all over my upholstery," replied a voice. Deep, with a mechanical burr to it.

The gun was in Mal's hand without his even realizing it.

"You can't shoot a car," River said.

"No, darlin, you're right, I can't. But I don't cotton to cars driving themselves either. Seems a mite unnatural."

"Jayne is still bleeding," River added. "What happens when he runs out?"

Mal twitched. Take care of your crew. Jayne was crew. He turned his head towards the mule where Simon was checking Zoe without taking his eyes from the car. "Doctor? We have a patient here."

Simon hurried over, but approached cautiously. "Captain, I don't think this a real car. It moves by itself."

"No, I'm not a real car," replied the voice, and then added in a sort of pointed tone. "He's still bleeding on my upholstery."

"Oh. Right." Mal and Simon reached in and grabbed Jayne by the arms, hauling him out. Mal was vaguely aware of Wash, Zoe, and Kaylee joining them.

"Captain, I . . ." Kaylee began and then trailed off.

Mal took a deep breath and then addressed the car. "I'm Malcom Reynolds, Captain of the Serenity. I suppose a thank you is in order."

The door and canopy closed, and then, with a noise that rose in pitch, the car began to move. Parts slid around, folded over and extended. Within the space of a second, a massive robot, slightly taller than Serenity itself, stood in front of them. It knelt and lowered it's head until it could look Mal in the eyes. The face was square, literally. Two blue eyes the size of video screens, a squared off nose, and a mouth. Mal had the sinking feeling he was not looking at the work of human hands.

"I am Oberon, former Archive keeper of the Decepticon Armada, from the planet Cybertron. I am what you would call an alien." A pause. "I would like to join you."

Mal groped for words even as one thought bounced through his mind.

This was all Jayne's fault.
