Travel advice: SEV / BUS SUBSTITUTION near Nuremberg
    DEUTSCHE VERSION WEITER UNTEN

    Hello everybody,

during the school holidays in Bavaria, DB are carrying out work on the stations and tracks between Nuremberg and Bamberg. That means there will be some cancelled trains between Nuremberg and Forchheim, and no trains running between Forchheim and Bamberg.

This affects especially those guests who travel to/from Nuremberg Airport.

While there are buses available, for foreign and out-of-area visitors I do *not* recommend trying to use them with heavy luggage. A more sensible alternative is to travel via Würzburg instead, thus avoiding the construction entirely. This will add about 1 to 1.5 hours to your journey and cost about €15 more than taking the replacement buses.

You can find journeys via Würzburg by simply typing "Würzburg" into the VIA field in the DB Journey Planner.

In case you are feeling adventurous or you're being too cheap, the rail replacement timetable giving details on the buses can be found here.

    Moin,

SEV aus Richtung Südwesten. Bitte bei der Reiseplanung drauf achten:

Beste Alternative: Anreise über Würzburg-Schweinfurt, Bamberg großräumig umfahren.

The Arabian Adventures of Baron Munchausen : SIG Idea.
Cross posted from the EF forums.

I am proposing running a storytelling sig based on the somewhat traditional Baron Munchhausen game - atndees take turns telling of their daring exploits in the lands of Araby for a few minutes, with others interjecting with even more outlandish events to confuse the current storyteller - traditonally any interjection means the challenger must take another drink, but we might use counters for this...or not at players discretion! The storyteller must then respond with a good reason as to how his story is still true.

    E.g.

Imam Zuki  :...and it was about this time that the clockwork army finally emerged from the sand, their bronze chitinous armour sending out a shining display of light and motion across the Visir Al'Malik and his forces, who at that VERY moment had me hoisted by my own petard, not to mention my neck being in the direct line of the lord high executioner on his giant ivory butchery machine.

The Wise and Noble Agrajag : But Wise Zuki, is it not true that the Visir Al'Malik has his Gigantic Ivory Chopper in the cloistered and shaded gardens of his palace? How could the sun shine and the army burst from the sand.

Zuki : You are quite correct my friend. But today the Princess Ipalalala today had requested that I be brought out into the sun that the vultures could feast on my body before it had hit the ground, after the slight I had done her in the bedchamber with several bolts of silk and a chaffinch, but that is another matter I cannot go into here.

    Agrajag : Ah! Of course!

    And so forth.

If Zuki could not account for this then he would have to give up his story and pass it on to another - similarly if he could not continue his tale for any other reason (drunkeness or simple lack of imagination) he would have to perhaps take another drink, and pass onto another.

However, each time someone passes on, he/she or another must ask the new person a question of the tale they are about to tell...

    Such as

My lord, tell us of the time you fought and killed the great beast of Damascus armed only with a dried fig?
Your Grace, can you recount for us again the tale of how you convinced the fennec's of the sahara to dig a hole to the sultans treasure?
M'lady could you entertain us with your experiences with the 70 shadow-hares of Baghdad?
and so on and so forth.

Questions about discouted tickets in Geramany with DB Bahn
    Hello there,

I had a few questions about booking discounted tickets with DB Bahn

I was looking at booking a train ticket from Frankfurt Airport to Berlin on Monday the week of Eurofurence and a train from Berlin to Suhl on that Thursday. I was going to book one of their Dauer-Spezial tickets (since they are the cheapest), but I noticed that you must take the train you booked.

I had a few questions for folks who are more familiar with DB Bahn:

-Is there any discounted ticket you can get that offers any flexibility in what train you take?
-Does DB Bahn make any exceptions in letting you take a later train on a Dauer-Spezial ticket if your
flight was delayed (I'm leaving a 3.5 hour window to make my connection from the plane to the train)
-What extra services do you get if you book a 1st class ticket? (the DB Bahn English site was vague on this)

Cheap fares from US to Germany now available for EF dates
Well let me first start off with a hello. :D

I am part of a 3 person group, from Southern California, who are making our 1st trip to EF and are looking forward to coming out in August.

I wanted to let folks from the US, who were thinking about going to Eurofurence, know that due to the current recession, there are some of the cheapest summertime fares I have ever seen to Germany around EF.

Here are some sample airfares I have found on Sidestep.com (these fares are inclusive of all taxes and fees and I did my searches for Aug 23-Aug 31)

    Los Angeles-Frankfurt $518
    San Francisco-Frankfurt $512
    Phoenix-Frankfurt $512
    Seattle-Frankfurt $647
    Denver-Frankfurt $517
    Dallas-Frankfurt $511
    Chicago-Frankfurt $506
    Atlanta-Frankfurt $567
    Orlando-Frankfurt $659
    Washington DC-Frankfurt $517
    Philadelphia-Frankfurt $537
    New-York-Frankfurt $506
    Boston-Frankfurt $607

Most of the flights are with with American, Delta, or US Airways.

If you can swing it, this is a real unique opportunity to attend EF this year without it costing as much.

    EF Prime looking for submissions!
    (cross-posted)

You have a camcorder and too much time? You like to do furry related videos? You want to show of your fursuit, animation or video editting skills?

EF Prime, the Eurofurence TV channel, is broadcasting information on running and upcoming events during the entire con. In order to keep the amount of reruns low and the content interesting, we need your input to fill four days worth of programming! Here are the rules:

    What we're looking for:

    - Convention videos
    - Stage performances from past conventions
    - Clips with furry content
    - Fursuit clips of any kind
    - Pawpet Clips
    - Animations (2D or 3D, Flash, claymation, you name it!)

    Here are some rules:

    - What we're looking for is videos that are truely furry related.
Please don't flood us with random clips that don't really deal with the fandom or its focusses. A bunny hopping across the camera doesn't make your vacation video furry. :)
    - Please only send material that you've created yourself. If you know someone who has done video clips, feel free to suggest their names, or to point them at this posting.
    - Only finished projects, please. I don't consider putting a camera on a tripod and filming the same corner of the Further Confusion Dancefloor for 60 minutes a finished project. :)
    - The typical duration of a clip should be at least one minute, and should not exceed 30 minutes. This is just a guideline, not a strict rule. If you've made nice animated shorts that are less than a minute in duration, or an interesting convention video that's longer than 30 minutes, feel free to submit!
    - Please keep the quality as good as possible. If you still have the original DV AVI broad-cast quality file of the YouTube clip that you've submitted, we'll be glad to take that one instead of the YouTube version. :)

By the way, the theme for Eurofurence 15 will be: "1001 Arabian Nights". So if you want to create something along the lines of the theme, you've got more than four months to finish it. Get started now! :)

If you have anything you want to submit, please send a mail to video at eurofurence dot org. Please don't send files as attachment, post a link instead. :)

    Numberwang Skit?
Uma no kuchi kara - from the horse's mouth
Knowing an amusing bandwagon when I see one, how would people feel about doing a "Numberwang" skit for the Masquerade/live performance night? Given EF's high technical standards, in-suit voice should enable suiters to do it with maximum effect.

What to call it? Hmm, I suppose that calling it Wangerfur (FurryWang?) would at least cause a chuckle for the English speakers in the audience. >;)

I'm shooting this in the head as I have no time to spare for setting it up. If someone else wants to give it CPR, feel free. :)

    Damn, it's nearly 3AM and I'm /still/ not in bed. x.x

    Eurofurence Registration

The registration for Eurofurence 15 will open on

    21-February-2009 19:00 CET

Due to current time demands of our day jobs and the fact that our accountant was unavailable for most of January, we're basically one month late. We are very sorry for the delay, but things like that can happen if you run such a big event with a staff of volunteers who also happen to have a life. :) Also, by popular demand, we have promised to announce registration and allow staff members to register one week ahead of time, which effectively delays the public opening by one week. Staff Registration will begin on February 15th. Instructions for staff members will be posted in the staff-only section of the forum.

    German hospitality!
I continue to be amazed at the hospitality shown by the German people. A friendlier nation I have never encountered! I was delighted to receive a letter from Mrs. Amreich, the mayor of the village of Ordnungsbehördenbezirk, thanking me for driving through her town. I am going to send her a nice Christmas card.

    EF 14 video finished
The rendering is finished... Originally I wanted to upload the video next week, but screw it... why wait? So hereby I present you:

    Eurofurence 14 video

1.3 GB, 64 minutes, 15 chapters (including intro, and credits), XviD 640x480.

A BIG THANKS to [info]bigbluefox and [info]atkelar for their help and hints. Many thanks to Scheriff, Tigu and Altair for their help too.

And now onto the negative parts.. The camera I used to make the video (Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1) had 2 flaws: Any shiny object makes an line over the screen (especially during the fursuit parade and furdances), and the wifi in the EF hotel caused interference in form of "pulses" in quality of the footage.

    ENJOY ^.^

    The charity says thank YOU!
THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU!

    Eurofurence 14 managed to raise
    3509,69 €
for the red foxes of the National Fox Welfare Society.

This is what Martin Hemmington (Society Founder and Coordinator) wrote in his mail after we informed him about the amount

I would like to thank everyone who has supported our work here at the
National Fox Welfare Society. Your kind support will ensure we can continue
to send out, free of charge, treatment for foxes suffering the life
threatening condition Sarcoptic Mange. It will also ensure we are able to
equip our volunteers with the relevant rescue equipment to successfully
capture sick, injured and orphaned foxes. You can rest assured, as no
wages are paid out, all of your kind support will directly benefit the redfox.
On behalf of the many hundreds of foxes you will have directly helped and
on behalf of all at the NFWS I would like to take this opportunity to thank
you once again. It is so heart warming to know there are so many fox supporters
     around the world.

My very special thanks to the Eurofurence Team and EosFoxx and Pan, for
without whom none of the above would have been possible

     Kind Regards

     Martin

Martin Hemmington ( Society Founder and Coordinator)

hanks again from me to every attendee and everyone in the staff (especially Pan) that made this first big charity a success!

    Greetings
    EosFoxx
