paris. ww II.
An exhibition of rare color photographs of occupied Paris in World War Two has sparked a controversy in France, with some politicians saying it paints too rosy a picture of life under the Nazis. (Reuters)

They are indeed false-colored black and white photos, and I'll prove it to you:

Look at her dress, it's all shaded in one color. A real color photo would have different hues of red to reflect natural light.

It's very strange that some people can't detect false color.

This isn't reality, they were German propaganda-pics. They were ment to show that life goes on under the Nazis. Appearantly, they still work!

Of course you have to realize that life did go on under the Nazis. Especially since open opposition could land you in places like Buschenwald or just in an unmarked grave.

I really like these pictures, and I hope more come out like them.

And I don't really get what the controversies are all about. Yes France was under Nazi control and that was horrible, but people still lived their lives.

Neverless, it's still chilling to see the Nazi banners lining French streets while people go about their every day business.

You don't see what the controversy was about? Food was tightly rationed and they had to live with the SS patroling their streets and shipping their neighbors off to concentration camps.

Too rosy?
(Anonymous)
2008-06-27 10:27 pm UTC (link)
It was all down to the officers in charge and how the locals reacted to them. Some places, especially high profile cities suc as Paris, were no doubt relatively normal and possibly nice places to live. Then you have places like Oradour-sur-Glane, where the Nazis rounded up every inhabitant, shot the men in the barns and burned the women and children in the church. As if not bad enough, there were three times more children than usual because of a school event, on what should have been just a normal day. The Nazi armies were men following orders, and if they didn't obey they themselves would be shot. In their place, who would you choose to condemn to death? I bet it wouldn't be yourself......

The answer to this question, of pandoric tension ....i think this was addressed in numerous war crimes trials and continues to be one of the great dilemas of our commonnly accepted moralities.

yeah that FOX news totally controlled presentation of what's seen truth hurts. Hurts intelligence, progress, and liberty.

Where are the photos of the french Jews, gypsies, travelers, and dissidents being loaded onto the box cars for shipment to Deutschland? Or the book burnings!!! OOOOoo my favorite. or the looting of thousands of cultural treasures.

Those pics were displayed at Paris Townhall.

The photographer Andre Zucca was assigned by the Nazi propaganda magazine "Signal" to promote the German occupation of Paris.

Beyond that, most of the smiling people in the photos were not French, except the old men and women. The Germans plundered all their conquests, adn the smiles were from those enjoying the few moments as the "Master Race." Almost all young men were taken to slave labor in Germany, where they were starved and worked to death. Read a little pamphlet called "112 Gripes Against the French" to find out the totality of the destruction. You can read it here: http://www.e-rcp.com/gripes/ Americans can never know the devastation who haven't been there, because there are few photos of the reality. That being said, the financiers of the Nazis were The Bank of England, the Rothschilds, and Paul Warburg, so France can be said to have been destroyed by her allies. The money power still has no value on human life.

England cowards! Where were you when this all happened then?

England could have easily ignored the plight of the rest of Europe and be protected by it's natural border, the sea, but it sent 100,000's to their deaths fighting for turds like you to live freely playing with your XBox eating burgers.
