AboutThis community is here for the sole purpose of helping people discover new music and rediscover old music, specifically in the realm of Ethereal, Neo-Classical, Neo-Mediaeval, Dark Folk and related genres -- basically, the melodic side of experimental music, and modern/innovative reinterpretations of mediaeval, folk and classical music.
Rules:
WHAT NOT TO POST: Anything that doesn't fall into, or at least somewhere vaguely close to, one of the genres listed above. We're really not too strict, but do try to stay focussed. If it has a generally ethereal or otherworldly feel, and/or prominently features folk, mediaeval or classical influences, while retaining at least a little bit of edge and not falling into the terrain of mainstream folk or new age muzak, it's probably OK. If not, there are other communities that would probably be a better place for it.
We also generally prefer that you avoid posting music that is readily available commercially, and focus on stuff that is obscure, hard to find or out of print. The point of this community is to help you discover new music, not to save you from buying CDs. On which note...
Most importantly: If you download something and like it, please support the artist and buy their music. Please remember that most of the artists doing these types of music don't make a lot of money from it, and could really use your support.

- Please make all posts FRIENDS ONLY. Any posts that aren't FRIENDS ONLY will be deleted!
- All posts MUST contain a song or a link to songs, or a request for such. The easiest way to share music here is to upload a song on a site like Mediafire, Savefile, YouSendIt, or Rapidshare, or your own server. Some of these sites delete your file after a certain period of time or number of uploads; in that case, it will be up to you whether or not you upload the song for us again. If you do, post the new link in the same post.
- Yes, you can promote your band -- as long as you provide us a way to listen to your music online.
- Please do not post promotions for local events -- our members are located all over the world, so the chances of there being more than a few in your area are slim. Plus, it's really not the purpose of the community.
- No promoting other communities unless you're approved by one of the mods.
- Please feel free to comment if you download something, to let the person who uploaded it know how you liked it. However, please keep any criticism constructive. Nastiness of any sort will not be tolerated.
- MP3 and MP4/M4A formats are preferred, as there can sometimes be DRM difficulties with WMA.
- Archive formats such as .zip, .rar, .7z, etc. are fine if you're sharing a number of songs at once. If someone posts a file in a compression format you haven't encountered before, try googling it before complaining to them -- there are generally free or at least shareware expanders available for almost everything. In particular, Stuffit Expander is free and available for both Mac and Windows, and will open almost anything except .7z - for that, http://www.7-zip.org/ has links to free programs for all platforms.
- Videos are also okay.
- We've now enabled user creation of tags, so please feel free to use tags to identify what you've uploaded - it will make it easier for people to find particular posts later on.
- Feel free to post requests if there's anything in particular that you're looking for.
