This is relevant in one of those fun, roundabout ways.
My boyfriend and two friends doing a cover of Volcano, because I love Damien Rice and made him learn this for me. Hopefully you guys will enjoy it, too.

| Flying Solo - article from The Irish Times about Lisa |
[31 Aug 2008|03:45am] |
Lisa Hannigan had gotten comfortable touring and recording with Damien Rice. But a nudge out of the nest gave her the impetus she needed to record her own debut album. She talks thrills and trepidation with Jim Carroll on the eve of her appearance at this weekend's Electric Picnic.
IT'S A sticky night in Dundalk. Real monsoon weather. All the windows in the Spirit Store are open in an attempt to get some air circulating, but the only thing going round the packed tiny room and down the stairs to the front bar is a buzz of expectation. People are curious about the singer, the one who has yet to release a note of music and who hasn't yet even played two dozen shows under her own name.
Tonight, Lisa Hannigan is selling her wares. She's been doing this all summer long, taking a bunch of freshly baked songs and a band of sharply suited players around the country to small, squishy rooms like this. She has dealt with wardrobe malfunctions in Tullamore and banjos going on fire in Headford. People have paid good money to see her, and she has sent them home smiling. And sweating, but that's the Irish summer for you.
( rest of the article, where she talks about her experience with Damien Rice, the end of their relationship and her solo career )
Also, the EskimoFriends board says, "Lisa will be appearing on the Tony Fenton Show on Irish radio station Today FM next Wednesday (September 3rd). You can listen in live between 14.30 and 16.30 (Irish time) from here."

Day 1 and 2Day 3Day 4Day 5 & 6Also, Lisa's started her first solo tour already, and what with her debut solo album coming out soon (hopefully! they've finished recording it at least), I think it's time she had a place of her own on LJ. She's deserved her own community for a while, but now that she's officially gone solo... it's definitely the right time to start one up. So, I've created my_pirate_disco for all the latest Lisa Hannigan news. Please join, post, discuss and spread the word!!

| 10 Days to Barcelona! (New Album News) |
[03 Jun 2008|03:27am] |
This was in the latest newsletter, and is up on Damien's myspace
On June 1st myself and my friends Ryan (images) & Mia (navigation) set off on a last-minute road trip from Dublin to Barcelona, squished into my little ol' mini with a portable recording studio.
The idea is to stop off along the way in random places where I have to write and record a new song every day, either in the mini or outdoors on a rock or something.
10 days = 10 songs = album nuevo
We'll update as we go.. if we're anywhere near an internet connection that is. We hope to arrive in Barcelona on June 10th, or at least in time to go see Radiohead play on 12th and then fly home for the Leonard Cohen dates. Yay!

| Campaign for Burma |
[27 May 2008|03:18pm] |
Damien Rice has called for his fans to back a 30-day video campaign which aims to educate people around the world about the military regime in Burma. The goal of the campaign is to mobilise 1 million people to sign up as ‘voices’ calling for change. The organisers hope that the campaign will launch a peaceful global assault, similar to that which helped to free Nelson Mandela and saw the end of the apartheid in South Africa. This latest campaign, ‘Burma, It Can’t Wait’ is an effort to help see freedom for Burma's imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize recipient Aung San Suu Kyi and the people of Burma. Their struggle has been heightened in the face of a growing humanitarian crisis in the wake of a devastating cyclone earlier this month. The campaign is now in its 27th day out of 30 and over 50,000 voices have already signed up. But as the aim is 1 million people, the campaign is falling short. Many high profile celebrities, including Jennifer Aniston, Will Ferrell, Ellen Page, Sylvester Stallone, Felicity Huffman have all made videos to publicise the campaign. There is one for each day of the campaign, all are about two minutes in length and while getting the Burma message across they are also full of quips and manage to stay creative and funny. One of the funnier clips is the Woody Haroldson and Jennifer Aniston Day 2 video, in which Woody is a diva-esque actor. The Ralph Fiennes video is another goody, in which he reverts back to his Shakespeare role, and writes the story of Burma as a great tragedy or Juno star Ellen Page highlights the similarities between Burma’s dictator, Than Shwe and Hitler in her message. Each video takes a different angle on the situation in Burma, such as child soldiers, torture, censorship, systematic rape or the death squads. This is a new way of reaching new people who will take an interest in Burma’s struggle. And while it has been slow to kick off, it may be what the Burma campaign has needed to reach the heights that the apartheid campaign did in the 1980s. To sign up as a voice for Burma, and to view the videos, go to http://www.burmaitcantwait.org Source 1, Videos from burmaitcantwait.org If you've got a minute today, definitely check out the videos and if you're inclined to, sign up!

| Lisa Hannigan Irish tour of small towns announced |
[01 May 2008|02:03am] |
From Hotpress/her myspace:
The good people of Cloughanover, Co. Galway can count their lucky stars- Lisa Hannigan is coming to town! The tour takes her to:
| | Cyprus Avenue | Cork, Cork | | | The Ampitheatre | West Cork, Cork | | | Sirius Arts Centre | West Cork, Cork | | | Debarras | West Cork, Cork | | | The Black Box | Antrim | | | The Balor Theatre | Co. Donegal, Donegal | | | Ballina Arts Centre | Mayo, Mayo | | | Campbell’s Tavern | Co. Galway, Galway | | | Roscommon Arts Centre | Roscommon, Roscommon | | | TBC | Sligo, Sligo | | | The Glen’s Centre | Leitrim, Leitrim | [More dates in "Kerry, the Midlands, Dundalk and Dublin" are to be added shortly.] Meanwhile, Hannigan has been applying the finishing touches to her debut solo album, which is due in late August. “We’ve been ensconced in Studio 3 at the Strongrooms in East London working on the mix,” reports her trusty percussion playing lieutenant Tom Osander. “Jason (Boshoff, album engineer) is at the helm, piloting the board, with Tom ‘Mr.’ Maddock assisting. They’ve been working their magic while Lisa and I sit behind them looking at menus, thinking of album titles and offering mix tips. I’ve a tendency to request that certain instruments get turned up while Lisa keeps reminding me that the album is not called Snare Drum. Really, Jason and Tom have worked some magic harnessing these rough and tumble tracks into the finely honed beauties we are now letting wash over us. We’ve got some minor tweaking to do, but by and large the record is finished, save for the mastering, which will happen in a week or so. “I’ve not had a better time making a record in my life and feel incredibly proud and honored to have worked with such a great bunch who also are some of my dearest friends. Life indeed is good.” Judging by the myspace.com/lisahannigan previews of ‘Lillie’, ‘Pistachio’, ‘Some Surprise’ and ‘Sea Song’ we’d say it’s going to get even better! -------------------------------------------------------- I'd so love to fly over to see her, but I think I'd break my bank account if I took another fly-to-Ireland-just-for-a-concert trip, even if NYE with The Frames was absolutely brilliant! Here's hoping she comes over to North America soon after the album comes out *crosses fingers* sources: hotpress, youtube, myspace, EF
