Deadlines: variable
ManLoveRomance Press (MLR) is a U.S.-based royalty-paying print publisher of gay and m/m erotic fiction. MLR is launching its Esprit de Corps series, projected to be quarterly releases of military and veterans stories. The first entry, Esprit de Corps, an anthology, releases November 2008. We are seeking submissions for the series which will include both novel-length titles and anthologies.
Dedication: This series is dedicated to those gay men who by not telling continue to serve our country with pride and honor. To those gay men who
found the strength to tell and the courage to hold their heads high while being discharged in disgrace. To those gay men who have sacrificed their lives to maintain our freedoms while sacrificing their freedom to be heard.
/Till we are judged for the honor and strength of our character and not by the prejudice and weakness of others...we wish you Fair Seas, Following Winds, Safe Harbor & Silent Running. (Courtesy of RM2(SS) Dick D.)/
Story: Acceptable manuscripts are well written gay or m/m romances, with plots driven by distinctive characterization, in which the military/veterans element has a strong presence in both setting and plot. The manuscript must include erotic content that furthers character development or plot. The author’s voice is marked by a sense of authenticity in both the romance and the military setting. Period may behistorical, contemporary, or futuristic. We are particularly interested in seeing a novel that incorporates strong themes relating to the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, but we certainly want to read the work of authors who write on other subjects within the military/veterans theme.
See our submissions guidelines at http://www.mlrpress.com/Employment.php .
Publication dates/Deadlines: The projected publication dates for each successive title in the series are President’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Veterans Day. The time of submission is immaterial unless the author believes that the story has a particularly strong relevance to one of those four releases dates. In that case, the deadline for submission is four months prior to the target release date.
Length: Contributions to anthologies may run up to 40,000 words; there’s no upper limit on the length of novels while the story stays strong and
the content meets guidelines; we will also consider vignettes of up to 10,000 words. For scheduling purposes, novels are preferred but all
other lengths are welcomed. See our submissions guidelines at http://www.mlrpress.com/Employment.php .
