    EitE party at [info]denvention3
    As this increasingly moves towards becoming an announcement-based community (have to see what I can do about that, now that I'm LJ'ing more reliably), I wanted to let you know about the EitE party this weekend!

    Sheraton Tower, 22nd floor, Friday night from 21:00-midnightish.

    The footage (Seasons 1 through 7 -- no [info]arisia footage yet; that will debut at [info]arisia 2009) has been edited, and even rendered into a 4+-GB Quicktime[*]. It topped out at more than 98 minutes, so the party will actually be slightly over three hours. ::shrug::

    Food has been gotten. The nearest Trader Joe's is in New Mexico, so I had to figure out alternatives. But it won't be Doritos and M&M's -- that's just not how I roll. Quantities were hard to guess, so I hope we'll be okay. There will be a greater geographic density of parties than at [info]laconiv, certainly. We'll see how this goes.

    If you're at [info]denvention3, hope to see you!

    Z

    P.S.: * -- Days before the screening party -- and even, the start of the con. Although not before the start of my vacation... still, this is amazing progress.

    EitE screening at [info]siliconventions
    Hey, peeps --

    Check out the SiliCon website for the 411 on the EitE screening at this year's [info]siliconventions. That's right -- an official con event! 8:30-10:00 Saturday night, Carmel Room.

    This is v1.1 of the 2007 Screening Cut, for those of you keeping track.

    P.S.: I guess the "Farewell to the Doubletree" segment will be somewhat less poignant in the actual Doubletree? %-}

    In the admittedly unlikely event that you are on this community, in the Boston area, and not reading my or [info]cthulhia's LJ: short post linking to the [info]arisia FGoH brunch on Sunday.

    Comments are screened, so you can safely RSVP there with an email address.

    Baycon pictures
    I've posted the better of my Baycon pictures here: http://picasaweb.google.com/tsgeisel/Baycon07

    No pictures of the screening or of Eric Near the Elevator, but there's a couple of pictures that are of people you may recognize from previous seasons. Or not; I suppose it depends on how much attention you pay to things.

    Feel free to pass the word along to those who need to hear it.

    EitE plans for [info]baycon 2007
    Here's the short version, for those of you who haven't read it on [info]baycon...

    Friday night, taping: in this stopgap hotel, we'll have to abandon our traditional format. We'll either be in a hallway, or near an elevator, or in a corner-y nook in a lounge. Wish us luck with that part.

    Sunday night, party: 9pm-Mid, Room 3095. You know, the usual.

    ::super-speed special effects::
    Z

    P.S.: And there'll be ribbons. If you come across us while we're taping, kindly ask for one by hand-motion or something; it'll be easier for me, come editing time (conscious of that, right at the moment...).

    An insanely-overdue MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR[**] announcement
    I wrote this in the car on the way back from Oregon... on President's Day weekend[*]. I was offline at the time, so I never added the links.

    Anyway, the fact that I haven't posted it until now is no indication of how excited I am about it! It's more the fact that I have a much more distant relationship with LJ than I would sometimes like. Here's what I wrote back then, with the links added.

    This was announced about a month ago, and I've been wanting to post it here since. Actually, in some ways I've been sitting on this news since last fall.

    [info]arisia has invited me to be their "Fan Performer[*] Guest of Honor" in 2008.

    Yeah, I was surprised when that came down, too. %-}

    Anyway, I do have corroboration. Look at the end of this post, and even Arisia's official site. So, as much as it may seem to be a fevered hallucination, it isn't!

    This seems to have been a direct result of the very successful WorldCon party. So, whatever the hassle to make that event happen, the exposure was more than worth it.

    Speaking of worth, I've resolved to make them feel good about inviting me. I have a list of friends who have been themselves invited to be Fan GoH that I want to learn from. I've already talked (too briefly, need to follow up) with [info]rmjwell and [info]thirdworld, and have in my mind to get the perspectives of [info]hazelchaz, [info]bovil/[info]kproche, Tom Whitmore, and perhaps Christian McGuire, if I can get ahold of him when he's not working too hard. %-}

    This will be quite the adventure. I've already given my Opening Ceremonies speech a goodly amount of thought.

    ::takes a bow::
    Z

    P.S.: * -- I don't anticipate "performing" in the "live" sense. What's more likely is that I'll make a special cut of appropriate length for premiere at the Con, and highlight some of the footage that has been shot with guests who have been seen around [info]arisia: [info]sinboy, [info]jhulten, [info]cyberangel_, and I'm sure there are others. Anyway, this all depends on what the Head of Programming wants. ;-D

    I need to get in touch with [info]cintyber or someone (maybe they're reading now?), try to get my "billing" changed, to my preferred "Eric 'in the Elevator' $LASTNAME". And talk about some details (like, what do they want me to do? I have little idea what the expectations are. I have dreams of doing a panel with Ginohn-XY, Martiantini, and [info]elphie about the Origin Story of EitE... Anyway, I think I just need to get through [info]baycon first -- my usual song, this time of year.

    Maybe I should think about some "EitE at Arisia 2008" ribbons. For Westercon?

    ::Thanks our sponsor::

    P.S.: * -- It's like, something about the 3-day weekends that clumps them together for me?

    EitE shout-out on "Coverville"
    So, there's this podcast I really like, "Coverville" (c.f. the new LJ community, [info]coverville_fans). And they had this little audience participation thing... which I couldn't resist.

    So, if you listen to last night's episode (#278), that's me (mimicking my intro-a-guest schtick as well as possible) at 06:56. I intro'ed Track #23, as a shout-out to my Discordian peeps. ;-D

    I know that the overlap between EitE and [info]coverville[*] is probably fairly small -- maybe it'll get larger now! (Presumably, mostly EitE fans discovering the podcast, rather than podcast listeners coming to EitE parties. But you never know... %-}

    [info]loscon 2006: good press from [info]johnnyeponymous
    We got some good (virtual) ink from [info]johnnyeponymous (aka ChrisForTAFF Garcia), a Fanzinista who (disclaimer) happens to be buddies with [info]trinsf, EitE's infamous publicist. Chris has (to my knowledge) his own 'zine, "The Drink Tank", as well as being half (along with [info]lady_leandra) of the editing team of "Science Fiction/San Francisco". He gave nods to EitE in recent issues of both publications, where he wrote up his experiences at [info]loscon.

    From SF/SF #35:

    By far the best party was Eric in the Elevator. The comedy was dark but it was so funny... Eric, as always, is a big talent in a tiny elevator.

    From The Drink Tank #105:

    Now, Saturday was the day for Eric in the Elevator. EitE is Eric’s classic talk show that’s taped in the Left-most elevator at BayCon... It seemed like everyone was waiting for the party to start, which isn’t a unique situation as BayCon will often have the hall lined by folks before the debut party starts. I got there as they were starting. Now, let me say this: I like comedy. I really like edgy comedy. I LOVE dark and pertnear[*] evil comedy. Eric in the Elevator is that last kind of comedy.

    Follow the links for the full versions (and other issues of these fine publications)... :-D

    ::Chronicle's "Little Man" clapping::

    P.S.: * -- I'm not sure whether the word "pertnear" is a typo or if it's an uber-cowboy-ified version of "pretty near", or something altogether else. ::shrug::

    [post date: 12/28; effective date: 11/27]

    The [info]loscon 2006 EitE party could be described as "a fair success".

    Room: We finally got ourselves onto the Official Party List. This means we got a party room, on the party floor. Much better traffic, even if some of it was the "poke head in and move on" variety. The room they gave us (1733), while a great amount of space for generalized-hotel-room purposes, was not ideally laid out for the video party. [info]trinsf made great use of the space; she and [info]ashi had it more or less laid out by the time I arrived for setup at 6:10. [info]ashi (who has been formally granted the status of EitE Roadie, complete with Cast/Crew ribbon) was able to return to the early party he was nipping out of, and I actually had a restaurant-based dinner on a party night, a tremendous novelty for me. Anyway, I'll try to post before-and-after pix.

    Show: A lot of people got to see at least a little bit of the show. Whiskey Fairy, at long last, got to see his own bit (which had been a problem in the past) -- this was greatly helped by switch in medium from tape to QuickTime. (Speaking of which, I actually finished all of the editing and exporting many hours in advance -- go me!) Of course, everybody loved [info]caprine's interview, which closed out the 2006 Screening Cut. We also showed the Seasons 1-3 Trailer, and [info]roadknight's "EitE Parking Lot" video. It's worth mentioning that the audience wasn't entirely [info]baycon people: some SoCal fen, both known to me and new, got a taste. I note with amusement that the "Is that you?" phenomenon continues. %-}

    Ribbons: We gave out a mess of ribbons (Thanks as always, [info]hazelchaz!): somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 total. Kosher Ham Studios's publicist pointed out that we had given out ribbons to somewhere between 20 and 25 percent of the registrants of the Con. I did notice that, of many people with one or two ribbons, a large proportion of them had the EitE ribbon. So, we're cutting across cliquishness, perhaps? I, myself, amassed a large collection of other people's ribbons -- a benefit of having them to give away. ;-D We once again put the labels on the backs of the ribbons; while this appears not to have resulted in signups to this LJ community -- I am still considering how to go about a Membership Drive -- it did help people remember where the room was.

    Favorite moment: the first-time-congoer (from the SF Bay Area; in LA for some reason), who was so excited to see the show at his first con. He declared that he would definitely be at [info]baycon in 2007.

    The party was not mentioned in the party reviews. While the publicist expected me to pitch a fit about that, I wasn't really surprised: only about half the parties that were thrown were actually reviewed (perhaps a third of the Friday night parties). ::shrug::

    Also did some utilitarian planning with [info]pentaclemoon about how to utilize the [info]baycon 2007 space. For many things at [info]baycon, not just EitE, 2007 will be a bump (or, perhaps, "single-lane bridge" is a better metaphor?) in the road... the more advance thought that goes into it, the better. (Note to self: location scouting!)

    Upcoming EitE party: [info]loscon
    Greetings:

    This is to announce that there will be an EitE screening party at [info]loscon this year, on Saturday night, from 9-mid.

    It'll be our third year in a row throwing a party (although last year's was fairly small, due to my not skipping everything else on Saturday evening to spend on promotion), and our first official party. Lookin' forward to seeing how that works out. %-}

    SiliCon 2006 mini-report
    [Post date: 11/20/2006]

    So, as planned, no party.

    Gave out about 50 or so ribbons (and a "pimp hat" to my publicist). Tried out the labeling trick, which was a fair success (for the "Do the labels stay on?" part, more than the "Did people join the community?" part). And shot a little bit of footage, for the "Farewell to the Doubletree" segment that will probably get mixed into the 2007 screening tape.

    P.S.: Speaking of joining communities: if you're not already a member, consider joining [info]siliconventions. It feels like the Con is moving towards having Critical Mass, and an LJ community will only help (perhaps minimally, but still).

    Farewell to the SJ Doubletree
    So, [info]baycon 2007 will be at the San Mateo Marriott[*]. (Nobody knows yet where [info]baycon 2008 will be.)

    Many of us will miss the San Jose Red Lion Doubletree. (That's an understatement: there's been much wailing and gnashing of teeth, from both the pragmatic and the emotional standpoints.) And I, particularly, will miss the heck out of the leftmost elevator, "my" elevator, my beloved television studio.

    It has been documented that I have plans to not have a party at SiliCon; that stands. That being said... it being the last convention that I expect to attend in that space, I am trying to figure out an appropriate way to say goodbye to that tiny room in which I spent so much time (more time than any other person, I'll wager, over the course of six [info]baycons).

    What do you think would work? Edit: it needs to be something low-key, low-overhead, etc./Edit (And are you going to SiliCon?)

    If nothing else, I think I'll need some "look back fondly" footage for the 2007 screening tape.

    I also have slightly over six months to do "location scouting" (such as it is) at the new hotel.

    SiliCon 2006: the plan is... No Plan
    I'm thinking at SiliCon, being that it's a relaxacon, I'm going to do some relaxa-ing. In other words, no screening. (You can still have a ribbon, anyway.)

    Come to think of it, there's never been a SiliCon EitE screening party. So, this represents no change in the level of service...

    WorldCon Recap
    So, we had a screening party at [info]laconiv. (Still can't quite believe that I. Threw. A party. At a WorldCon. That's something that I never expected to do. Daaaaaang...)

    Before I go anywhere else, let me do my thank-you's. A ginormous Skywriting of Appreciation goes out to the following persons, from all of us here at Kosher Ham Studios:

    • [info]bovil and [info]kproche (in and outside of their [info]loeg capacity), for offering me your Spare Oom on its unused night. I probably never would have thought of doing a screening at WorldCon if you hadn't brought it to my attention... so, thank you, big time!!! J00z[*] r0xx0r my b0xx0rs. Oh, and also for submitting the original party listing, so it got in early.
    • [info]trinsf, for major assistance with said Oom, materials storage, setup, tear-down, and (most visibly) for pimping EitE like gangbusters at "Match Game SF".
    • [info]ashi, for the projector, invaluable A/V techie expertise, and setup (and [info]nolly, for being the middleperson in making it happen).
    • [info]jusdisguy, for the speakers, and shopping/transportation assistance.
    • [info]zahraa, for schlepping stuff, emergency loan of extra hard drive space and processing power, and not complaining very much about the expenses. %-}
    • [info]videomaker, for solving the unsynchronized sound problem, that threatened the entire project.
    • ...And everybody who came to the party, contributing to the Contagious Good Time in the room.

    Now, some semi-random particulars... )

    Highlight of the party (so much so that it goes outside the cut tag!): we entertained Steve Jackson! I'd run into him on Wednesday night (when [info]rampling brought me to the Bawdy Filk), and invited him to the party. He actually did show up... and he found EitE very amusing. "This is good stuff," he said, and (over his shoulder, as he left the party) "Keep. Doing. THAT!" ::fanboy squeeeeee!:: I think it was the high point of my entire convention. :-D :-D :-D He said something like, "Maybe I'll come to a [info]baycon, one of these days." I should probably see if someone from the ConCom wants to follow up with him or something. I'll bet that [info]crowgargoyle would lurve to have Steve Jackson come to [info]baycon gaming. (Although, in reality, he'd probably want to split his Memorial Day weekend time between [info]baycon and the game convention in the Bay Area the same weekend...)

    Official partiness!
    I'm impressed that because of gettin' on the party listing bandwagon early, the EitE party is already listed on the Worldcon Party Page, on a very short list.

    Now if only I weren't double booked. It seems like it's become tradition that EitE parties always conflict with my other con commitments. I should be there by Midnight, at least.

    EitE party at [info]laconiv
    Thanks to the collusion of [info]loeg -- and the generosity of a Sekrit Benefactor -- [info]eric_in_elevatr will be proud to be holding a Screening Party at WorldCon, [info]laconiv. This will be on Saturday night (08/26/2006), after the Hugo Awards ceremony[*].

    Still trying to figure out exactly what form the screening will take. My original concept had been to quickly produce a tape (with minimal re-futzing from existing screening tapes) of all the footage from the 2004 screening (Season 3 and "Greatest Hits" from Seasons 1 and 2), and the new footage from the 2005 and 2006 screenings. Then I did some quick math, and figured out that it would probably total at about three hours of footage, give or take. Assuming a 22:30 start time -- which may be optimistic -- we'll be going pretty late (too late, in fact, for me to go to any WorldCon parties myself, that last night).

    Hmmmmm... Still thinking out loud, here. Any viewer feedback?

    Feel free to help me get some small amount of "buzz" out there. ;-7 Speaking of which, I will have a replenished supply of the badge ribbons (Thanks, [info]hazelchaz!) -- actually, there will even be a pair of EitE ribbons in the "ribbons gallery" that is being put together of all the ribbons available at the Con. ;-D
