Equinox Theatre Company's Annual Meeting will be held Saturday, June 14 at Bayside park in Malletts Bay, Colchester. The meeting will be at 2 o'clock, followed by a potluck and fun at 3 o'clock. Board Elections are held at this meeting, so if you have any interest in running for the Board, please attend annual meeting. If you can't be there but are interested in running, please let us know.

Coming to Higher Ground - The Rocky Horror Picture Show!

Well, the Green Mountain Renaissance Festival is only a few weeks away now, and we're very excited! We've grown by leaps and bounds over last year. This year's Festival will feature more than 25 vendors, excellent faire food and a pub provided by The Lincoln Inn of Essex Junction, VT.

As for the story, this year, Henry's only son, young Edward VI, rules the shire.
Or to be more precise, the Lord Protector, the Earl of Northumberland, John Dudley rules in his stead until young Edward comes of age, if he should come
of age. The King is exhibiting signs of illness, and Dudley has started scheming
to try to secure his own family line in the thrown. His son Guilford, and the King's cousin, Jane Grey, are Dudley's chioce for successor. King Edward's sister, Mary, has different plans however. As Henry VIII's first child, she sees herself as rightful heir to the throne, though her father dispossessed her when he divorced her mother. A struggle for power is brewing, and though Mary knows she may be going down, she has no intention of going quietly. Will Mary make a move on the throne? Will Edward stand up for himself? And what about Elizabeth...with which of her siblings will she ally herself?

Of course all this will be decided with a Human Chess Match, and there will be music, dancing and theatre, not to mention Stephen Gratto, Jack-o' all trades, with his highly entertaining ostrich and dragon. And let's not forget that the local Harlequin Specter pirates will be providing a gaming arena where you can try your hand at archery, fencing, axe throwing or a Jacob's Ladder.

"A Few Good Men," Aaron Sorkin's gripping military courtroom drama, opens this Thursday, June 21, 2007, at Memorial Hall in Essex Center. We play 10 shows over two weekends, with 8 p.m. performances Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. shows Saturday-Sunday.

Please come see the show and support the cast, and also the Vermont National Guard's Family Readiness Program, which will receive the proceeds. Tickets are only $10 and are available at the door.

Save the date for Equinox's Annual Meeting!

The meeting will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9. (Location to be announced.)

The annual meeting will be a time to look back at what Equinox did over the past year, look ahead to Equinox's future — and, of course, elect new board members.

Anyone who wants is welcome to attend the meeting. You must be a member of Equinox to vote or run for the board. (Members are anyone who has contributed at least 10 hours of time or $50 to Equinox since June 2005.)

Five board seats will be up for election. (Some incumbents may be seeking re-election; some may not.)

Have you ever wanted to be on Equinox's board of directors? Now's your chance! You can nominate yourself (as long as you are a member). Or if you know of someone who should be on the board, make the suggestion, and we will ask them to run.

Nominees should submit their names to wej12(at)mac.com. Nominees are also asked to provide a short statement (recommended, but not required) about why they want to serve on the board or what their vision for Equinox is.

Voting will take place at the annual meeting. For those members who can not attend the annual meeting, absentee voting for board elections is allowed. (More info on that and more, coming soon!)

Equinox has been invited to participate in the "Broadway in Vermont" fundraiser for the Shelburne Art Center

This is a fun opportunity for us to show off Equinox — and the upcoming Green Mountain Renaissance Festival.

We will be developing a piece called "Renaissance Idol." (This was done a couple years ago at the Killington Renaissance Festival, before it became GMRF.) Instead of singing, "contestants" will recite a Shakespearean monologue. We will be combining original scripted elements with classic theatre! And, of course, we will be showing off the Green Mountain Renaissance Festival's gorgeous costumes and signature wit (with pop-culture references and sendups).

We need approximately four people to deliver monologues, plus three judges and a host. If you have a Shakespearean monologue you'd love to do, this is a great opportunity.

The fundraiser is the evening of Saturday, May 5. Other than that, the schedule should be pretty flexible. (It's designed to be an easy-to-rehearse piece and not require a large time commitment. So we'll probably meet as a full group 2-5 times.)

You are welcome to participate even if you are not in the full ren faire! If you want to participate, just comment here (or send me an e-mail), letting me what role (contestant, host or judge) and what monologue you'd like.

If there's a huge response, we'll have auditions. But for now, we're just looking for volunteers.

Auditions for GMRF will be held Friday, March 9 from 7 -9:30 and Saturday, March 10 from 1 - 4 at the VNA in Colchester. The story this year revolves around young King Edward VI (son of Henry VIII) and the regents who fight to control him. Roles available include, but are not limited to:

Edward IV-- age 15 (or somewhere there abouts)
Elizabeth Tudor-- age 19 ish
Mary Tudor-- age 36ish

Edward Seymour-- age 30's
Thomas Seymour-- late 30's ish
John Dudley-- age- 40's


We also need members of the royal court, privy councilors, tutors, beggars, commoners - there is room for everybody. In addition, we are searching for specialty performers, so if you have an event-appropriate skill, please come prepared to demonstrate!

The Green Mountain Renaissance Festival will be held July 21, 22, 28, 29, from 11 - 5 at the Champlain Valley Exposition Campgrounds. March through May, cast will meet every other week for workshops (speech, movement, dance, etc), with more regular rehearsals beginning in June.

my name's marcia. i'm 24 and i live on saint paul street. i moved here a few months ago.

it's been about ten years since i was involved in theatre, and i'd really like to get back into it. obviously i'm out of practice, but i used to perform, stage manage, and operate lights and sound in a local theatre back home in jersey. i would be so happy if i could be involved in your group in some way.

Auditions for The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged

Three guys, armed with lame costumes and the most creative use of props known to man, perform ALL of the Bard's works in this 90-minute hit comedy. Warning!: This show is a high-speed roller-coaster type condensation of all of Shakespeare's plays, and is not recommended for people with heart ailments, bladder problems, inner-ear disorders and/or people inclined to motion sickness.

Performances: at the Jericho Medieval Festival May 18 (evening) and 19th (day)
and at the Green Mountain Renaissance Festival July 21st, 22nd, 28th, 29th (days)

Seeking: Energetic, funny, experienced actors for the three roles in the show. Mostly looking for men, but will consider women. Priority will be given to those who can commit to all performances.

Rehearsal period: We will rehearse April 18- May 19th. Schedule is flexible, but rehearsals will be 3-4x's per week. Actors must study scripts before rehearsals begin. Three "brushup" rehearsals will occur in July before the 21st.

Equinox Theatre Company and acclaimed playwright Maura Campbell are debuting her new play, "Self Evidence," starting Thursday (Feb. 8) at the Waterfront Theater in Burlington and running this weekend and next weekend. The play tells the story of a famous Vermont murder case dating to the mid-1800s, and also examines the role of women in society.

We need your help!

We're looking for volunteers to work the ticket booth and serve as ushers for each performance. In exchange, you will receive one free ticket for that night's show (an $18 value!). We need two ticket sellers and two ushers for the following performances: Feb. 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, and 18. The work involved is, well, selling tickets, or taking tickets and handing people their programs. Pretty simple stuff.

Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. for each show except the 11th and 18th, which are 2 p.m. Sunday matinees. Ticket sellers should plan to arrive one hour before curtain, and ushers half an hour before the performance.

Just think: At $18 a ticket, your hourly "wage" would be between $18 and $36! Now we're talkin'!
