Welcome
This group is for members of the Episcopal Church in the USA, or people who might want to learn more about it. Wherever you are in your journey, you are welcome. We have some wonderful well-informed and thoughtful people here, several priests and two (that I know of) folks on their way to the priesthood.
Community Guidelines
Our intention is for this to be a welcoming place. Personal insults or general slurs that appear to serve no purpose beyond stirring up controversy will be deleted and anyone who repeats this behaviour after having been asked to stop will be prevented from posting again.
Effective 6/26/05, this is a moderated-membership community. This unfortunate measure was necessary in order to keep this as a "Safe Space" for people to converse. People from the full spectrum of theological and social viewpoints are welcome to join and participate, but an atmosphere of mutual respect and support must be maintained.
We will be notified when you subscribe and forward you a link to these guidelines. We must hear back from you that you have read and agree to abide by them before you can post. We need to be able to reach you to do that, so if your journal is friends-only, please make sure you have at least one public post where we can comment or an e-mail in your profile. If you don't, we cannot reach you and your request will time out.
If you are joining the community for the sole purpose of expressing your opinion about recent decisions made by the church on human sexuality issues, please be advised of the following. This is a hot-button issue for many people for myriad reasons, and it has proven difficult for some people to keep the conversation civil and abstract.
If you choose to post on these topics, please consider your words carefully, perhaps reflecting on the items from the Baptismal Covenant above, before doing so. You do not know who is reading these things and how your words will affect them, and it is more important that we maintain an environment where everyone feels welcome and not under attack, than it is for any one person to "win" such arguments. Remarks that are judged by the moderators to be solely intended to stir up controversy will be deleted, anyone whose sole participation is judged by the moderators to be crusading/trolling on this subject will be warned once, and then removed.
Members are also to refrain from posting comments here about personal things people say in their own journals, other communities, etc. If they wanted to share them with us, they would do so.
When you join the group, please say hi and tell us something about yourself, including your parish and diocese if you are comfortable sharing that.
