Well, I finally got "Ignition" uploaded to my site. :) Sorry it took so long... I actually translated this song approximately a month ago but was too lazy to code it. :( (I keep doing that with songs that I translate... ack!)

Anyway, the lyrics (as usual) are thought-provoking and wonderful... hope you guys like it! :) (By the way, this was my first time properly romanizing a Korean song... omg, it was so difficult because it just looks WRONG in my eyes! @_@)

Epik High Member Tablo to Publish Short Story Collection

Tablo, a member of popular vocal group Epik High, will publish a collection of short stories in September. The singer says the stories will be about a diverse range of cityfolk.

Tablo, who graduated from Stanford University's English Literature Department, recently told reporters that most of his works are short stories he wrote back in college. His upcoming collection will be a compilation of ten of his English short stories which he is currently translating into Korean.

The singer admitted that he was once a middle school dropout and far from being a star student. However, he was pointed out as one of the most promising writers when he was a university student.

He said he was admitted into university thanks to his past experiences as a school newspaper editor and contributing writer.

Tablo says he received an award for literature from one of his favorite writers, Stanford University Professor Tobias Wolfe, who he says is widely acknowledged as the "Hemingway" of our generation. The singer explained that the short story, which he received the award for, is about a giant rat that sneaks into the New York apartment of an aspiring film director and completely changes his outlook on life.

The title of his upcoming book has yet to be finalized.

not much info about the thailand concert has been released yet. a couple of thai-hiskoolers will keep the soompi thread updated so don't forget to come by and check now and then~
this is what's been confirmed though;
- it will be held in Bangkok
- there will be a press conference in Thailand soon.
- and they will be promoting their 5th album
- this will be Epik High's 1st concert outside of Korea
- apparently, woollim ent. and EH are anticipating how many fans will come, they are probably a bit worried since even though korean artists are very big in thailand, Epik High are not as popular as a lot of other groups (such as Super Junior, TVXQ, etc.)

no date, venue or ticket prices have been confirmed yet.

there have been several articles posted on korean sites about it, though none have been translated (that i know of) yet. apparently epik high's representatives say that the backmasking wasn't intentional.

Tablo's Artist talk on radio

Hi... It's my first post here so if I have somehow gone against the rules or something, please let me know.

I don't think I've seen any posts related to Tablo DJing a radio program in Korea... He's currently hosting a radio program on MBC at 10pm for two hours and yesterday, they had a new corner as a pilot test. It was supposed to be where a guest comes in and talks about his/her music but since it was only a trial run and the team wasn't sure whether it would continue or not, Tablo decided to 'sacrifice' -- his own words XD -- himself and put himself up as the first 'guest'.

I was listening to it while studying so I didn't catch all of it and with 24 hours passed since then, I don't remember everything he had said but mostly, he talked about Fan and One as well as answering a few questions including one related to featuring. Here's what I remember him saying... Just bare in mind the while the topics are in a correct order, what Tablo actually said might be chronologically in wrong order *sweat*

'You cannot speak of Tablo without talking about Epik High. Epik High comes first and within it exists Tablo.' That was the first line he had said, starting the corner. The main songs he began with had been Fan and One.

'When I first made Fan and played it to other people, they were all a little surprised and their reactions had been closer to '...? What the hell?' because compared to the songs before, it was quite different, especially with our previous title song, Fly. And the melodical part in the chorus, Mithra wasn't sure if it was supposed to be singing or rapping. To be honest, when I made Fan, my mental state wasn't really good. There were so many things happening at the time and it was a very difficult time, what with troubles with company and things.' -- Unfortunately, I don't actually remember much else of what he said about Fan but it seems the song came across as a bit of surprise for not just Mithra and Tukutz but other people too. Well, it really was quite different from Fly, if you think about it.

'It was just a day after I heard about a suicide somewhere near where I work on music and then I heard there had been someone else attempting to commit suicide nearby again. It turned out the guy was just drunk and his antic had been only to threaten but it made me think there were a lot of people who could do with encouragement and reassurance.' -- Yet again, I actually missed the first half of what Tablo said about One then missed the last...*sweat* I probably remember a few details wrong as well but yes, he said that One was basically made with the people committing suicide in mind, to give them encouragement in the form of his music.

It was followed by a few questions and here's what I remember...

'Yeah, I've done a lot of featuring, haven't I? But nowadays, I try not to do so many if I can help it.' -- One -- or maybe two -- had been about featuring he'd done so far. He really has done a lot of featurings including Rain and Lee Jung as well as M although Tablo didn't remember M to mention... o.O;; Rain's song that Tablo featured is called I'm coming, a title song for his third album. Quite short, LOL. And here's a little more of what he said about I'm coming. 'But seriously, JYP -- Rain's producer -- is so perfect on security. When he sent me the music, he sent me only the part that I need to rap, not the whole song, so until I heard the finished song later, I couldn't tell what kind of song it was going to be. The recording was done in a very short time but it was fun. Rain and JYP were there and there was this one part shouting 'yeah!' and we thought the sound was too weak on my own so Rain and JYP joined me in the recording booth. Then JYP pulled a prank on me, saying that while recording in this booth, you have to take off your top. I didn't realise he was joking and got a bit flustered. I mean, I'm not Rain.'

'Huh? Giving parts? What does that mean? Oh, you mean, how we decide who does which part?' -- One of the questions had been exactly that; how Mithra and Tablo decide who does which part. The answer had been simple. 'The part I do is made by me and the part done by Mithra is done by Mithra.' Then he added, 'Actually, you know in One? Nun na eh goo won -- this part? That's the best and coolest part of the whole song and it was actually supposed to be mine 'cuz I wrote it. But then Mithra had come at the time and I just turned around and said 'Mithra, here, I'll give you a present. You can take this part.' So that phrase became Mithra's and I got the 'You're the one', the English part at the end of the song instead.' I think it was around this topic that he mentioned Tukutz although I can't remember if there had been a seperate question. Tablo was basically saying that he doesn't diminish Tukutz's part on purpose or something. 'Tukutz is a very good musicion with consideration. He knows when he's needed and when not and takes his part out himself if he thinks it's not good for the song. Honestly, with -- here, I can't quite remember which song it was --, I had a discussion with Tukutz about putting scrachting in but he simply said the song would sound better without it and told me to leave it as it is. Same thing happened with One as well. So it's not like I intentionally don't give him much to do or anything, you know.'

'Yeah, there are a fair number of songs I produced for others. But actually, I don't really make many for others. The main reason is that you shouldn't give music to others for the sake of the copyright fee but make a song genuinely for that person and I'm not very confident in that aspect.' -- I think this was the last question he answered; about the songs he had given others. One of the songs had been for Kim Kun Mo although it had been only lyrics at the time. 'But you know, I had been only 16 at the time. My relative read the poem I had written then told Kim Kun Mo about it. Apparently, he had a song that he needed quite a poetic English lyrics and I was asked to make the lyrics. For Kim Kun Mo!' Another big name he had made a song for that he mentioned was Sim Soo Bong. I can't remember the song title exactly but it was something like I'm happy because I'm a woman or I cry because I'm a woman. 'That song has a partner song, in fact, sung by Kim Jang Hoon, called I'm happy/I cry because I'm a man. Sim Soo Bong sunsangnim heard Kim Jang Hoon sunbaenim's song and invited me over to her house for tea then asked me to write a partner song in a 'woman' version for her. It was such an honor. But she is a real professional. When I went to the recording studio, she actually kicked me out for two hours, saying she doesn't want to be distracted. But she really cried singing the song, really putting her emotions into it.'

The list of the names that had recieved a music from Tablo one way or the other kinda went on but Tablo stopped it midway, saying any more and it would be boasting. The last one he mentioned was Anyband. 'When I first finished composing TPL and played for others, I was relieved and happy to hear everyone agreeing it was good.' And most of you would know how Tablo had said before that he is BoA's fan...XD 'It had been just after when I had said that I had even joined BoA's fanclub on TV and it had become news headlines. When recording TPL, we actually recorded our parts all seperately but as the one who made the music and direct it, I had to go to BoA's recording and I'm telling you, I've never been that nervous going into the recording studio!! You know how as a director, you need to do drag -- it's the musician's language for basically instructing the singer during recording, making suggestions and things -- for the singer? Before I went, I told myself time and time again that I would be strict and firm, tell her to do it this way and that. Then I went into the studio and it was more like a fan meeting than a recording session. I actually stayed in the back corner most of the time and spoke to her manager, saying 'we'll start when ready' and things to him instead of BoA. And during the recording, everytime she asked how it was, I just said it was all good.' -- He sounded as if he had been truly nervous to his teeth at the time XD

I can't remember what song he played as the last one for the part but it wasn't TPL; apparently because it was an advert music, it never went through the, what you call it, the raiting committee (??).

I'm sure some of them are a little different from what he said, I've got goldfish memory coupled with an ability of mixing up what actually happened and what I think happened *sweat* Nevertheless, I hope you enjoyed it... Here're last few links.

Epik High - One (translation)

Whew, it's been a while, guys! Life and work have both been really hectic, and my site has suffered a severe lack of updates due to this. :( However, I saw yesterday that Epik High came out with their new album and immediately fell in love with 90% of the tracks (which motivated me to start some translations again). I'm planning on translating a good chunk of the songs (and have already translated a few of the prior requests, like Day of Peace, but haven't had a chance to code... :( ).

Currently working on translating "Ignition" and will probably work on 당신의 조각들 after that. Anyhow, I've translated "One", so please enjoy! :)
