about this morning.
hi everyone. i don't post much, but this has to be addressed. i take it that everyone read that post from that jennad person today, about how she doesn't want to write more than 5 pages at time. well, this is what she said in response to me.

I'm pretty sure I will "get over it" since I have to. I can write, I just don't like to. I'll let you know when I get my liberal arts degree (may) without writing a 10 page paper. No, I really am. I'm writing your lj name down. Look forward to hearing from me!

why do i care when she's getting her stupid degree? why waste her time? what an idiot.

I think she gives English majors a bad name. I've had class with people like her, who bitch about 3 page assignments where they only have a week to write it. Guess it cut into their drinking time or something.

The worst classes I've taken are writing classes where the writing majors outnumber the lit majors. They were so lazy and bored with it all, and complained constantly. I would just sit there, amazed, that these "students" had chosen writing as their major, but couldn't stand to write...

i know. i don't even know why she even bothered coming on this board. she just called me fat over a message board. it shows just how mature and studious she really is. and pre-law is a major i don't care what that idiot says.

I think this is totally uncalled for:
Go fuck yourself. Why do you keep responding if you don't want me here? I must provide some kind of sick entertainment if all you can do is call me retarded. Pre law isn't a major. You can major in anything and call yourself pre-law. I have stated repeatedly that I am NOT considering law school! Why do you keep bringing this up? Of course it is because I am too lazy to go. You are a stupid bitch and I really could care less. I can't wait to come back in may and show all you bitches my degree. HAHA. It will be sweet. I can't wait. And now I'm deleting this post because I'm tired of you and every other little bitch here thinking you know all about me. I bet you're fat.

I don't believe she was naive enough to think that her post wouldn't start an argument in the community. Seems like she likes pushing people's buttons. And she is going to show you her degree.....uhh, like you care. She said repeatedly it was only a piece of paper and that all liberal arts degrees are the same, so why would she continue to brag about it?

also, she did say she was thinking of going to law school, somewhere in that mess of posts. ugh. I've wasted far too much time on this chick. It was funny at first, but now I think she's just sad.

i totally agree. why all of a sudden is she so proud of her degree? i'm very proud of my degrees. i'm getting an english degree and a philosophy/religion degree. i have worked very hard, and i have a 3.9 gpa. and i've had to write many papers, and i'm sure you have to. what do you think of her calling me fat over a message board?

is it okay if i add you as a friend mayhaps?

this *IS* relevant to english major stuff
[info]tastymoogdust
2004-07-31 11:11 am UTC (link)
...because I am proving a point about people who embark on an English major because they think it is easy and can't think of anything better to do. [info]jennad said this, but it hasn't gotten delted, although several of my posts were and were not half as bad as this invective:

you're just jealous because I can get away with it and stupid bitches like you have to work hard. It just proves that I'm smarter.

and I responded that actually, writing more than 5 pages comes rather easily to me. but you've prolly alread yread that, if it hasn't been deleted. See, I have encountered many students like this at all stages of undergrad, hopefully that will change in the fall when I start grad school, where I will *hopefully* be surrounded by students like me who take literature more seriously and understand that the written word and those simply read go hand in hand.

you know what? this is ridiculous. tastymoogdust, i've friended you. jennad, i hope that all of this answers your question: i sincerely doubt that you can get a bachelors degree in liberal arts without writing papers longer than five pages long. calling me fat is really immature and stupid. retarded is part of the vernacular and pretains to someone's intellectual ability. when you say that you don't want to exercise your intellectual ability by writing papers, and you post this in a community for english majors, you're inviting people to judge you. many people as you can see think that this is stupid thing to do. but fat has nothing to do with this. it's pot shots. so, i'm leaving this stupid argument. and you can call me whatever you want. but i don't care about your degree, and there is no point in contacting me when you get your degree. wow. you're getting a BA. you and a million other people.

In my experience, it's harder to write a good 5-page paper than it is to write a good long paper. You have to get your ideas into concise, serious sentences, and there can't be any waste or padding.

However, this seems like a self-confidence issue, considering how self-deprecating she's being. I also don't think there's anything "smarter" about getting through college doing less work - if you skate through college without doing any serious work, it's going to bite you in the ass, hard.

"if you skate through college without doing any serious work, it's going to bite you in the ass, hard."

I am just curious: why? Writing long papers = not the type of "serious" work that is going to get her a job in the "real world."

Well, eventually you're going to have to work hard, whether it's at a job or in grad school or at home. And like lots of kids who go to college after skating through high school and then have nervous breakdowns when they actually have to *study*, she could simply crumble under the pressure. It's a lot easier to get over your fear of hard work when it's just a grade, not your job, that's on the line.

Ah, this is still going on?

I guess no one read my comment :P haha. GUYS THAT WASN'T THE POINT. She was just frustrated that she was an English major who didn't enjoy writing, and perchance it happens that she's been only writing 5 page papers. Hey, she's not the professeor the English courses she's taking, right? SHE CAN'T HELP IT IF THAT'S THE WAY IT'S BEEN.

She was just hoping that maybe she doesn't have to write more than 5 pages since it's been like that for 3 years already, but then she knows that that might not happen. AND IT'S NOT LIKE SHE'S UNWILLING TO WRITE.

I mean, you guys are all nice people, but I really think it was uncalled for to make a new post to talk about how unfair this is and how she doesn't deserve her degree. I mean, we're reinforcing the English major stereotype by being elitist about writing papers. :/

Can we make peace here? Heh, this is a community for discussion and support, not for absolutely unneccessary drama.

Giving someone a hard time because she doesn't want to write more than 5 pages in high school would be acceptable. In college, the assuption that you will not write anything more than 5 pages is just ridiculous. It's not elitist, it's just life.
