Questions:

1) How often do you clean your engagement ring?

2) What do you use? Wipes/liquid/what is the "dipping basket" those liquids refer to?

3) Do you wear your ring in the shower? I take mine off when I shower and it kind of offends my fiance. It's a diamond with a white gold band. I know the diamond obviously won't get ruined but I'm worried about the white gold in hot water + soap. Am I just being weird or does everybody take them off in the shower/at the beach?

My story

I've been together with my fiance since the beginning of my junior year and his senior year in high school. It was love at first sight. The moment I first saw him and met him I just knew he was going to be an important person in my life.

He proposed the night before my 21st birthday. I was born in the 20th so 20 is my favorite number and I kind of hoped he'd propose sometime when I was 20 and had given up hope when he came through.

For Christmas I got him a gift certificate for a professional body massage but I hid it in a giant box full of packing peanuts and made him search for it. It was really funny. So for my birthday he told me he had gotten me my present and that I could open it as soon as he got there. When he got here (here being my college) he handed me a medium-sized box wrapped in pink paper. Inside it was...another box wrapped in pink paper. And another box and another box. Finally I got to a bag from Tiffany's and inside it was a Tiffany and Co box and it had a small velvet case inside. I stupidly opened it upside down and then saw my ring. I was so surprised. I thought when I saw the bag he had gotten me a necklace or something. He asked "So, do you want to marry me?" And I was so shocked and thrilled all I could manage was a "Hell yeah!"

We're both really poor and he went with his dad to the mall to see what he could get and apparently he was really disappointed with what he saw. His dad looked around and found a picture of a Tiffany & Co ring that he could afford and my fiance was so excited that he could get me Tiffany's that he went right out and bought it. I had made it clear I absolutely did not want a big diamond, so he got me the most beautiful diamond I have ever seen. It's 1/5 ct, D color, VVS1, and ideal polish, which I think means it's a really good quality ring.

I told him I'd buy him his wedding band from Tiffany's too. It's really exciting for me to have something so perfect and lovely and believe me, I love telling everyone who compliments it that it's a signature Tiffany & Co ring. :)

My turn

I've been engaged since May, but am just now getting around to posting my ring. :)

I'm one of those people that constantly changes their mind, so when we were talking about what the perfect ring would be for me, I went from solitaires to sidestones, from round to princess and so on and so on. One day, we ran to the mall because something Andy ordered came in, so he suggested just going to browse rings to see what if it'd help me make up my mind, lol. I fell in love with a 1.25 Marquise cut solitaire (go figure, the one cut I never even thought I wanted), so he surprised me by taking it up to the counter and saying he'd take it!

A few days later, he said he was running to his grandparent's house to visit after work. Long story short, he was actually picking up my ring. He wanted to wait until we went to the Red Wings playoff game the following week, but had it for 20 minutes before it burned a hole in his pocket, lol. So he asked me in our house, with candles lit, while we were cuddling on the couch, which I think was a lot more personal and romantic!

Since then, I've (obviously, haha) changed my mind about the band, which he totally expected which is why he kept it as a solitaire. So we went to his family jeweler and got one from her.

On the hand.

On the windowsill.

This was the teaser pic I got when he picked it up from getting the stone mounted on the new band.

Yay!

My ring!

So last Aug (07) I got tired of waiting for my boyfriend to propose to me (I knew he would eventually, I just think he was waiting till I was older (I'm 20, he's 25) and out of school) so I proposed to him! It was nothing uber-romantic, and I didn't exactly think it through completely, I just wanted to be engaged. We were laying down trying to nap, and on a sort-of-whim I asked him if he would marry me.

He was speechless for a second then said "Is this you proposing?!"
Me: *pause* Yes, I guess it is
Him: Then yes. I will marry you.
*enter a few seconds of happy dancing and kissing and being all cuddly*
Him: So where's my ring?
Me: Uhhhh...

It was so funny. I ran out to Fred Meyer later that night and got the gaudiest CZ ring $5 ever bought. Then I went and found him a real ring :)

His:
I found out how very hard it is to find a guys engagement ring that doesn't look too much like a wedding band. But this one I absolutly love! And it's made out of Titanium, which made the boy very happy :)
It will probably become our wedding bands later on.

Mine:
He asked me if I wanted a ring. I told him he was crazy for even asking :-P
He also asked me if he had to get me diamonds. I told him I like opals better and this is what he found:

Hope you guys liked them, I know I do

My engagement story and ring

My fiance and I were engaged at the top of St. Paul's Cathedral in London, England on March 13, 2007. I can hardly believe that it has been nearly a year!

I was completely surprised by the proposal - we had only been dating for 6 months, but knew that we wanted to get married. We had looked at engagement ring settings, but I never thought in a million years that Jason would propose so soon! I had a hunch that it might happen on a previously planned trip to London, but as we were traveling he didn't stop me from getting into any of the bags he had packed, his coat, or his pockets, so I was pretty certain that he wasn't hiding an engagement ring from me. So with that theory out of my brain, we went on having a wonderful time visiting the friends who set us up in London and seeing the sights.

On an afternoon by ourselves, we decided it was time to make the pilgrimage to St. Paul's. This is my absolute favorite landmark in London - each time I go to London, a stop at this beautiful cathedral has to be included. We bought out tickets and toured the sanctuary, then went to go up the stairs to go up to the domes. Unfortunately, I couldn't find my ticket, which you needed to make the climb. I wasn't too upset - I had already been to the top many times and suggested that we spend more time in the sanctuary, then leave. Jason got very angry at me and went on a rampage trying to find the lost ticket. I was completely befuddled and actually getting pretty angry at him myself for over-reacting to a silly lost ticket! I couldn't understand why he was so upset about not going up to the top - it was a tiring trip that he had not been showing very much enthusiasm about making.

After me walking away from him, angry that he was angry at me over the lost ticket, lo and behold my ticket was found in Jason's pocket - where it had been the whole time! He insisted that we make the hike, so off we went. After 600 and some odd steps, we made it to the Golden Gallery, which is at the base of the dome and is the highest gallery that you can get to. I was standing at the railing, taking in the view when I turned around to find Jason on his knee. I couldn't believe what was happening - I was so sure that he didn't have a proposal planned! All I could say was, "Is this real??" and of course, "yes!!"

After standing up top for a few minutes and taking in the London skyline and all that had happened, we made our way back down the stairs and I laughed when I realized why Jason had been so angry at me about losing my ticket to the top. We met with our friends then had dinner at the oldest pub in London (and my favorite!), the Cheshire Cheese. Our best friend Sheila snapped these pics:

Sadly, our camera with the photos of the actual engagement at the top of the Cathedral got picked in Leichester Square the next day. But it is certainly a memory that neither of us will ever forget!

So here are the photos of the ring (finally!). The center diamond is .6 carats and was inherited from my grandmother, so it is very special to me that I have a family heirloom as part of my engagement ring. It is set in platinum with pave set diamonds flanking it on the band. The wedding band will also be platinum with matching pave set diamonds. Because the center stone was a family heirloom, I really wanted something that had an antique feel, but not over the top. I think it worked out pretty well. I am completely in love with it and can't believe that I am so lucky to be marrying my wonderful fiance!

I love reading everyone's posts and gawking at rings. I think it is so interesting to see all of the different styles that are out there! Congrats to all of you, ladies!!

HELP!

I think the subject says it all! I need help ladies.

my boyfriend of one year and I are planning on getting married. thing is, he's in the army and scheduled to get his out of state orders within the next 2-4 weeks. it would make everything much easier if we're married by the time this happens, so we've got to get engaged AND get married all within this month-long time block.

he's a little romantically challenged and has hinted he wants me to come with him when he picks it out... but I have no idea what I'm doing either! I tried doing a little research online, and all this stuff about settings and karats and cuts just has me in a fog. I'm only 19, and I didn't plan on having to do anything like this for a while. I have a couple married friends, but none of them really did the whole engagement ring thing.

soo basically I was wondering if any of you would be so kind as to give me a little information about your rings, or what the average engagement ring is like. how much it cost you would be MOST helpful but I know that can be a personal question so I understand if you don't want to share that. I really don't want to walk up to the jewelry counter and pick out some thousand dollar ring only to embarrass my soldier's salary boyfriend haha.

thank you & congratulations to all of you!

My <strike>boyfriend</strike> fiance proposed to me in between Christmas and New Year's. We were visiting my parents in Florida, and he drove me to my favorite beach to watch the sunset. When we got close to the beach, we found it enveloped in fog, with no sunset to speak of. We took it well, and decided it created added privacy for us, because we couldn't see more than a 100 feet in any direction! We had wine and cheese and chatted and enjoyed the sound of the water, until he started his speech, and dropped down on one knee in the sand. He got me to say yes before he showed me the best ring imaginable...

It's a cushion-cut stone on a pave-encrusted band. Antique-style, which is exactly what I wanted. And he surprised me with the size of it, but I won't complain!

Enjoy! (I have been!)

New ring...

My fiance and I have come to an agreement. He purchased a bridal set a year ago that was very small, and is pictured in my icon.

I wanted a larger diamond, so he said a limit of $2,000. Lucky for me, I found a Tiffany Setting white gold ring with a .5 carat diamond, G-H colour and PI-2 (I think) Inclusion.

The ring is on special from $2,499 down to $1,799. It looks like.. http://www.tiffany.com/Expertise/Diamond/rings/engagement_tiffany.aspx but obviously isn't a Tiffany & Co ring :)

And, the valuation comes in at $3,550. So we paid just over half value price :D (All dollar amounts are in AUD (Australian).

I'm waiting for it to be resized from a K down to an I (Australian sizing), and it should be ready on about the 28th.

I'm so excited, its so perfect for my tiny hands! :D We are using the 'wedding' band from the bridal set pictured :)

New engagement ring and wedding bands.

We went and picked up the rings today. Early which is super exciting. I can't believe I have this big ol' rock on my finger now instead of the temp ring. It makes the temp ring look "wimpy wimpy wimpy". But I still love it, haha. Brian's ring looks more amazing every time I look at it.

So, I'll be a married woman in less than 8 weeks now!!!
Wedding Bands for Grooms..

I am wondering what type of band you have got for your husbands. What material, colour, engravings ,width.

Do you also have photos?

I'm wondering what to get for my own Groom. :)

I like the idea of a double groove at one side, in a titanium/stainless steel metal. I want something that is long lasting and scratch resistant-ish :)

finally, i got good, clear pictures of my ring! so excited!

it's big, but so is my finger - i wear an 8.5 (which is funny because my FH wears a size 5, can you believe it?!) i look at it about 8 thousand times a day. i was the one who posted a while ago about the jewelry district...it was an experience i would recommend to anyone if you live in/near a metropolitan area. i didn't know what i wanted at all, so looking at literally thousands of rings in close proximity really helped. we also got an AMAZING deal buying at the end of the day...well under a thousand dollars for my favorite ring in the whole world.

yay vintage-y!

Hmm

So my set is White Gold, what I believe to be 18k. I went into a jeweler today, and she mentioned that white gold has to be re rhodium plated every so often, and I already knew that.

My engagement ring is 9 months old, and already, even from the first month, it has been scratched :(

But I'm feeling a bit curious, I don't know much about platinum. I'm wondering if we could get the same ring, using the diamonds in it, made into a platinum setting.

I guess we have to do some research, and think about cost.

I'm re thinking about getting Adrian a white gold ring for his wedding band. I'd ideally like to get him a titanium/platinum band.

Does anyone have any information about platinum?

Thankyou!

blingy

All 3 of my rings came from zales. Im very pleased with them. Mainly one store in Natick MA. I searched for months for a band that worked well with my 1st eng ring *see icon* and then I found these bands that fit great! But they were in yellow gold :( So after much sadness we went to another zales to see it that was true and it was but they could order it in white gold it would just take up to 12 weeks so we did and are very pleased. So after a few weeks went by we looked into upgrading my stone. But they told me I had to change the head but the head was my fav part of the ring and I didnt want to take that out. So fh let me pick out my dream ring. ( I had my eye on it for quiet some time) Best of all it fit my bands perfectly.

on my chubby fingers

in the box

My blingety bling!

Well I have been engaged now for 5 months but I just found this site and absolutely LOVE looking at everyones rings! I could look at diamonds all day!!
My FH and I decided one day to go and look at engagement rings. He told me to pick one from everystore so he had an idea of ones I liked. It wasn't until we got to the final store and I found THE one! There wasn't much of a $$ restriction but the one I found was only 1000$ and I LOVED it! The lady tried pushing me to ugrade to a larger diamond but I said no thanks! I have tiny fingers and I do not want a ring that is going to over power my hand! My husband to this day things I am weird for not wanting some huge rock on my finger! My ring is 1/2 carrot with 4 smaller diamonds on each side. It also came with the matching wedding band.
Enjoy the picture! I'll try to get a better picture up soon when I have time to take some more!

Wedding Date; Update!

Hi!

It's been a while since we got engaged, Friday October 20, 2006. We have recently set a date for the Wedding!

Saturday November 7, 2009.

It's a while away, but we need some time to save and move out together. It means that he will be 26 and I will have just turned 24.

We have lined up a Celebrant, although I've yet to tell her the date.
My sister has told me her friends can make the cake.
My sister in law is making my Dress, and bridesmaids' dresses.
We have chosen a song (Friday I'm in Love - The Cure) We began dating officially Friday 13, 2003.
We are deciding on another ring (my ring is a bridal set) minus diamonds to fit behind one half.
We are looking at ring designs for him.

The complete Bridal Set, which may be added to, we have to decide if my finger is long enough. It is around 3/4 of an inch long.
I NEED YOUR HELP!!!

hey guys!!
I will start out with a lil' background about myself! My name is Tricia and my SO's name is Greg. We have been together for a lil over 3 years and 7 months and OFFICIALLY we have been together 3 1/2 years July 16th of this year. He is most likely going to pop the big question very soon and we are both so excited about it! He originally picked out this ring and had it in mind for 2 years in July I found out and decided against it this summer because it was a bridal set and he wanted to pick out the engagement ring all by himself and then have us go together and get wedding bands for later. He I think wants to go with a traditional look of ring meaning a center diamond solitare like look. He asked me tonight to find bases that I like to give him suggestions. I wondered if you guys knew of any neat bases I could show as examples. I like a modern type look with traditional and I didnt want to really just pick a plain band ya know? He also wants to know if it should be thick or thin, post pictures of neat ideas or something you would show your SO if faced with this question!! Thanks in advance, i really appreciate all the help!!!!

edit: how sad...no responses at all huh? :0(

Hello, all!

My fiance have been engaged since May 6, 2006 and we're getting married July 20, 2007 - 38 more days to go!

I'm still on the mad hunt for a wedding ring, though. I haven't found any rings with diamonds that I've fallen in love with, and I'm thinking about going the plain, classic band route, because...well, it's classic! And if I did eventually find something, most likely, it wouldn't clash.

If anyone has any suggestions (anything but a channel setting!), let me know!

Congratulations to everyone!

Newbie

I'm new to the community, having just discovered it. So hello, hello!

My fiance and I have been together forever-since high school, actually. We made it through college with only one break up (it lasted 12 hours), managed to live together in a studio apartment with very little drama, and managed to move cross country from MA and thrive in CA.

Two weekends ago he took me to Santa Monica for the afternoon (we live in San Diego, but we go to L.A. all the time). I thought we were meeting up with a friend who lives in Pasadena, so that we could go out to L.A.'s clubs and have a place to crash after. Well, we ended up taking a walk on the beach by the pier, just to kill some time. I love looking for things on the beach, like sea glass and the like. After a while, I said I wanted to sit, so we plopped down on the sand and just talked for about twenty minutes.

Sometimes in our talking, a huge armada of sail boats went by, and my boyfriend pointed it out to me. I watched them finish going by, and when I looked back at him, I noticed a sand dollar half sticking out of the sand. I freaked and picked it up, but when I turned it over, I noticed black ink written all over it. It said "Will you marry me?"

Obviously I said yes.

He capped the night off by telling me we had dinner reservations at the Ivy at the Shore, and that we were spending the night at the Huntley Hotel.

It was the most amazing night of my life.

This is us, the night we were engaged:

And this is my ring:

It's an Asscher cut blue diamond with two side stones set in platinum. It's 1.5 carats total, and unlike anything I've ever seen in my life. I find myself getting distracted with it when I drive, or when I'm sitting at my desk at work, or any other time...It's just gorgeous.

engagement

I'm not sure if this is inappropriate but it is still related.
-How long were you and your partner dating before you got engaged?
-How old were the two of you?

I am just curious. My boyfriend and I have been dating for 3 years but we just graduated college so I don't see this happening anytime soon.

a question for you experienced ladies...

hey you guys!
after a year of dating, we're finally ready to go shopping for an engagement ring. (!!!!!!!!!)

i live in the los angeles area, and my parents have suggested looking in the jewelry district there. does anyone here have any experience with the jewelry district (in LA or in any other big city)? if so, i'd appreciate any tips...we're on a bit of a budget (i'm guessing not more than $400...if even) and i love to get a sweet deal - but i really, really love the edwardian style, which is expensive. also, are there any places on the net that i can look at vintage pieces?

thanks so much!

(it was like 115 degrees that day...we look crazed! haha!
