Crash the Poll
Here is a poll* on MySpace where Yes is currently ahead, please go vote on:

Do you think the theory of Intelligent Design should be taught in our education system?

* I am sending you through the Pharyngula link because I would rather not give the MySpace page another link for Google.

That's an annoyingly ambiguously worded question. I'm sure they did it on purpose. It's not the teaching of intelligent design that irks me. I'd have loved to have discussed it in my high school comparative religions class. Or maybe a theology or a philosophy class.
Not allowing the words "intelligent design" uttered in schools whatsoever -- I gotta hand it to the creationist loons, that's not fair.

It's when they try to present it as science, as a competitive theory with evolution, that I get upset.

I went and voted "No", but even if it wins, then they can just go "see, they're against free speech!" When that's totally not the point of most people voting that way...

You are absolutely right, of course. Which makes it all the more annoying.

Heh heh. Looks like PZ's raid worked, 'No' is way ahead in the lead now. :D

They can desire it so as much as they care to - it's still illegal.

... theory?

Quite honestly, wouldn't mind at all. Good luck getting that status, though.

Yeah, what is the Theory of Intelligent Design? I've never gotten an answer to that question.

And, you know... it's just a theory. Or so they say for evolution. ;)

Yeah, theory.

"Based on XYZ principles of human gullibility, and ABC facts about the American political climate, how does PQR methodology apply to trick people into conceding the following creationist point?..."

ID is clearly based on science. Where the sciences in question are marketing and psychology.

If the poll provides proof that the public be given the educational right of having ID (ignorance) be taught as an alternative to natural selection then my assertion that the entire public schooling system is lacking and falling to pieces will only further be validated. The sciences are being taught in a way that disunites interest and hinders the focus of sciences to begin with. I cannot even begin to fathom how a high school biology teacher would go about explaining concepts to students that destroy the very essence of the scientific process. I could understand ID being presented as an argument against the modern synthesis of evolution - but having ID as a 'credible' subject of the sciences is appalling.

Haha, they finally took the poll down. Surprised it took them so long! Wonder what the final tally was...
