On December 1st we celebrate World Aids Day, but the reality is, AIDS affects lives everyday. The current situation of poverty and AIDS in Africa is unlike any other and WE have the power to DO something.
We believe in the power of a FEW people who can take SMALL steps to make a BIG impact.
Please join us on a ONE mile wintery walk through Boston Common, December 6, 2008 at 2pm to raise money and awareness for AIDS in Africa.

I would like to recommend an amazing book selling service! I just made over 100 bucks selling old paperbacks and grad school text books. Basically all you do is type the ISBN into the search bar on the homepage and they tell you how much the book is worth. You can even sell multiple copies of the same title. I got accepted on Tuesday, I have no idea how, but I did. The first thing my mum said to me was, "If we can afford it". I am going for Art Education and besides EC, the only other place I'd go is Salem State (it's obviously much cheaper since I am from Massachusetts).
We haven't gotten our financial aid statement yet :/ I'm trying real hard to decide if EC is worth all the loans I'm going to have to take out and if it's worth stressing my mum out about money. I've got a brother in college at NESCOM in Bangor, ME, so she's already stressed about it. In your opinion, is all the money troubles worth it?

hey guys, im going to be a freshman in college next year and was accepted to emmanuel a few weeks ago. i love boston and am definitely considering emmanuel but i just have a few honest questions id like opinions on from actual students.
1) one concern i have is emmanuel's size..do you feel that the small student body is reminiscent of high school at all? everyone knowing each others gossip? is there difficultly meeting people you haven't come in contact with or don't know already? when i graduate high school i just want nothing like this and while i think a smaller school is right for me these are kinda some of my fears at the same time.
2) i'm aware of emmanuel's smaller male majority and this is something id like some student opinion on. that being said, i am a straight female who enjoys interacting with the opposite sex. ill be honest, multiple people who go to smaller colleges with small male percentage have told me most of the guys on their campuses are gay. while i have no problem whatsoever with gays i would like a college that has some promising straight men on campus. so tell me, whats that like? should i not be worried about this at all with emmanuel? do you not even notice that there are more females?
3) generally how do you like emmanuel? is it a place where you can stay on campus and actually have some fun? cool, non-jock people? i like a good party once in a while and would like to go to a school where there are some social gatherings to make friends, etc.
4) i didn't get much of that catholic school religious vibe from emmanuel when i visited, but is religion a big part for you guys? personally, i am very open minded and not very religious at all. my family is catholic though. i sure as hell will not be attending church or anything like that so i am just curious as to how religious emmanuel is.

Hi there. I went on a tour last week and I really liked everything and everyone I saw. I am hoping to transfer to EC in the fall, i am currently a sophomore. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with the transferring process? I am worried about getting in, my grades are decent but not great. Is it easier for transfers to be accepted? Any info would help. Thanks!

I just got accepted to Emmanuel (today actually) and had a few questions. I kind of applied on a whim, but the fact that I got a merit scholarship influences my decision a bit. I never got a chance to go on a tour when I was in Boston to visit Lesley U.
So to any art/art therapy majors: How are the programs, professors, and opportunities? and... is there a portfolio review to get into the art department? I didn't get information on that.

1. Flip flops are better than foot fungus.
2. Make all your drunken party photos private on facebook/myspace, or do the even smarter thing and keep the off the interwebs.
3. Be aware that MORE THAN EVER your online presence will follow you. Keep this in mind when you post public things.
4. B12 Vitamins and pedialyte are your friend if you have a really rough night.
5. USE THE POPCORN BUTTON ON THE MICROWAVE WHEN MAKING POPCORN. This will seem stupid until the 4th time you're evacuating the building at 4am because someone didn't.
6. Switch your primary care provider to a facility in Boston that has a walk-in clinic. When you inevitably need immediate medical attention, a walk-in clinic visit for $15 ($125 uninsured) is way better than a $75 (multi-thousand dollar uninsured) visit to the ER. If the walk in thinks you need to go to the ER, the initial ER fee is covered. Harvard Vanguard does this, and they have a facility 5 minutes up Brookline Ave from EC.
7. For those in need of supplies, you can take the 8 Bus to the Dorchester Target, or take the 47 bus to the 70 bus to get to the Watertown Target. Long trips, yes. I would have appreciated knowing that these were around when I was in school. Having someone get a Zipcar membership and sharing the cost is a GREAT way to get the hell out of Boston occasionally, as well. The Natick Mall and Everett shopping center are good places to stock up on junk.
8. Don't drink the punch unless you REALLY know the person who made it. Be cautious of frat punch at all times.
9. Fake ID's - generally a bad idea. Especially the ones you get offered by your shady neighbors the first few weeks of school. See the display case outside of Blanchards in Allston if you need an example.
10. There are passes to the Aquarium and Science Museum at the library (or at least there used to be). Use them. If you want to check out a different museum experience, the Harvard Museum of Natural History is pretty awesome (and cheap).
11. Need money? Do medical surveys and tests. I used to pay rent doing these. Make a spam address to apply to these with, and be careful about which ones you apply to. Check the Craigslist (other jobs) category.
12. If you can get to a Red Sox game, do it. Even if you're not a baseball fan.
13. Share cabs - it's cheap and fast.
14. Brookline is closer than you think, and there is fun stuff there.
15. Don't skip too much orientation stuff. You're bound to make at least a few friends you may have for a long time.
