ramblings on the final chapter
Emma ch 52 - The End. Huh? Sure, it ended on a nice note but IT FELT SO RUSHED. I mean, there are so many plotlines left unresolved (the problem with Elanor and her evil dad, The Viscount and Hans and...) Bejeeebus, now Emma reads exactly like a poorly written Victorian romance novel. There's drama, forbidden romance and it all ends happily via some deus ex machina contraption... Man, you failed me Kaoru Mori. Were you in a hurry to end it?

On another note, scanlations are up to ch 49 and that leaves 3 chapters untranslated. Not bad... Imma thinking THEY won't continue with it since it got licensed by the evil DC comics. Hahhah, my lousy skills won't let me comprehend those chapters tho.. looks like we'll have to wait for some kind soul to translate or something.

Anyway from what I gathered on the last page.. looks like we might have some more Emma-related chapters. They're planning to release short chapters concerning the side characters of the Emma world. Side chapter 1 : Kelly Stowner will be out September 2006.

iitran aren't scanlating it anymore, but they are releasing novel versions of the text on their group discussions board. They've done 50 and 51 so far (though it looks like only 51 is up now).

I'm thinking Kaoru Mori might tie up some loose ends in the side chapters. I will be VERY surprised if Eleanor doesn't get a chapter of her own. And it's always possible she'll expand the ending a little in the actual tankoubon. That's what happened with Hana-Kimi, after all. ^^;

And as you'll see from the summary for 51 it's not exactly all roses. ^^;;; Things are gonna be hard for the Jounes family from here on out. ^^; Though I agree it felt rushed. ~__~

I mean, plot twist plot twist plot twist BAM the end.

And here I was hoping to see some more TashaxEmma sneak in before the end.

Glad it's not completely over; maybe one of the short chapters will clear things up with Hans ^_^

It does seem TOO rushed T__T I was really wondering how are they going to deal with Elanor's Dad. He seems so very scary arghh ~~ and what's most disappointing is ... where is my much hoped for wedding spread page ??! Darn youuuu Kaori Mori T___T

yes i think the whole production of this animated series was a bit rushed and the story moved slowly. i wasn't expecting a happy ending anyway but the flower in the end made me think that the creators were probably implying a good ending.

I actually had never watched the anime, I think [info]piratelicker was talking about the manga serialization; which ended recently and absolutely abruptly ^^

just finished watching all episodes of emma.. It's an open ending.. I'm guessing it's a happy ending because the creators probably wouldn't include the flower in the end..

well the anime you see, stopped halfway thru the story. (it covers books 1-3 IINM)I hear it was due to production costs that caused the anime to be short.

The anime stops at the part where Emma left London... whereas the manga continues with Emma gaining employment with the rich lady who mistook her for her maid at the station.

But there's something I noticed about the last anime episode title - Lily of The Valley. There must be a hidden msg in there since the last chapter has Emma choosing Lily of the Valley perfume to wear for the ball she is supposed to attend with William. Maybe it's a nod to the anime as well.

in the last anime episode Emma (and I think William as well) buys a little posy of lilies-of-the-valley from the flower girl at the train station. (and Tasha, who in the anime isn't identified i think, tells Emma on the train that the flower signifies "the return of happiness"--yay!) hence the significance of the perfume at the end, you're right about that. :)

I agree. Emma was too rushed in the end and the real story could have just begun. I would've loved to see Emma trying to fit in society and leaving her past behind, bond with the Joune family and how her wedding turns out. Spouses in love marriages have very high expectations and it would've been lovely to see Emma and William go though the same.
Besides so many questions left unanswered :/

Um, not trying to seem presumptuous, but do you think you could lj-cut your entry, seeing as it contains spoilers, and it's only been a week (or less) since the raws and chapter summaries were released? It's just that I came here to [info]emma_fan to download the raws, and I kind of had to squinch and scroll really fast to avoid any details about the ending, and I might not be the only one who might need to do so. ^^;
