9:48 pm [herongale]	First Ever Elricmas Gift Exchange! One of my ideas for this year's Elricmas is to have a opt-in chatwide gift exchange, similar to a Secret Santa gift exchange. The basic premise is simple: everyone who would like to participate signs up here, and I put all of those names in a hat and randomly assign names to each participant. Participants will then either make or purchase a gift and send it by mail to their assigned giftee, roughly coordinated to coincided with the week of Elricmas. There are some basic rules. 1. No gift may cost more than $10. You are certainly welcome to spend less, but please try not to spend more. This limit is set so that there will not be wide price discrepancies in presents, and therefore no one needs feel guilted into spending a lot of money. 2. Handmade gifts should entail a reasonable amount of work. There is no limit one what you can make by hand, but please do something that takes at least a couple of hours to complete. 3. You are not allowed to give art as a gift. There are many reasons for this, but I think the main one is that it is a bit too easy to figure out what someone would like in terms of art, and art is rather common currency in terms of fandom gifts... people give art as presents to each other all the time, and I want this to be something a bit different. Art can be used to DECORATE a craft (such as a handpainted box), but should not be the sole focus of the present. 4. Gifts should be sent sometime between December 8th and December 17th. My goal is that everyone will have received their present before Christmas, but I don't want people sending their presents out too early either because it is more fun to let anticipation build up. Having stated all of the rules, I will now open this post for people to sign up. The signup period will be from now until November 20th, and I will be randomly assigning names that weekend. Responses to this post will be screened so that you can also give me your home address, but please note that once names have been assigned I WILL be making a post naming all of the participants. It will not be a secret who is playing; the only secret will be who is giving presents to whom. I am really excited about this, and I hope you all are too. :D ETA: there is absolutely no obligation to participate! I will be sad if anyone signs up who really can't afford to do this, or doesn't want to but feels that they should. You don't need a reason, either, if you decide not to sign up. Instead, I ask that people remember to sign up only if you think this idea sounds like a lot of fun and you can't wait to do it. XD (1 Comment |Comment on this)

1:22 am [herongale]	Bidness: Also, Happy Elricmas! Ah... hi! Many greetings on this historic Elricmas morn. As you can see, I have started to post Secret Santa gifts from the gift exchange. The official due date for all art and fic is 24 December; however, from today on I will be pleased to post all presents as I receive them. If you agreed to participate in the gift exchange, be sure to have your submissions in by the due date. If anyone feels they cannot finish in time, please please please let me know immediately, so alternate arrangements can be made. In regards to the recipe challenge: most of you know I decided to postpone it. This was in part because only a few people shared recipes, but also in part because I did not feel at the time that I had the energy to make this event a success. All recipes that have been submitted are archived and will be posted eventually. And lastly. Iron Drunk. Well, I canceled that event on Saturday, because it was my judgment that not enough people would be around and/or able to participate to make it a good event. However, today is another day, AND it is the official holiday for Elricmas, so perhaps we can try it now, in a more informal fashion. I'm at work currently, but I'm going to say this post is an anything-goes zone for the next 24 hours. Because it is a Monday, drunkenness is not required (drunkenness was never required anyway), but if you can swing it, why the hell not? Here are the rules. 1. any FMA fic idea is allowed 2. post as you are going along as replies within one continuous thread 3. RP is allowed; consensual RP only, please! (the events depicted therein need not be, however) 4. no deletions 5. have fun. I really don't care if this doesn't take off, but what the hell.
